Well if I had my wish about a "new" successful modern Indian it would be a new engine in a modern touring platform for the Chief and Super Chief and a smaller lighter, faster Scout. I always think of motorcycle personalities as their engine first and the frame and customer comforts a close second. Paint and chrome, well almost anyone can do that !!!
If I had my wish for this endeavour, the engine would be a nice new watercooled big twin Like say 116 inches or larger with SOHC or DOHC 4 valves and closed loop fuel injection. Say maybe a 105- 110 RWHP stock. Suzuki does it easily with their M-109. OR if they wanted to be a liitle more radical and go back to Indian folklore a 4 cylinder, I know a inline 4 non-longitudinal might be a packaging nightmare ( see Triumph's huge 140 cu in. three cylinder ) so a V-4 would probably be more easy to package. Maybe a V-Max like 102 cu in engine, little longer stroke for more bottom end, plus baggers really don't need 11,000 rpm engines, 8000 would do fine thank you, and could make an easy 120 HP and 100 ftlbs of torque.
For the frame and bodywork maybe a cross between the Vision and CC with all the bells and whistles. Victory has done a wonderful job in the styling on both these models.
I know, here I go dreaming again..................

Maybe now POLARIS will pay Jack Roush to finish designing and developing what was supposed to be the original engine for the INDIAN before they had to compromise and go low ball with the S&S motor.

Ya know, interestingly enough I've seen sketches of an early Indian design (Gilroy era) of a Chief and it was VERY similar to the Vision...just saying I think Polaris has the right ideas to keep Indian going and fresh.

An old Indian Dealer from Gilroy named Don Nofrey sold the sketches on ebay....when Gilroy Indian shut down he managed to "Procure" lot's of extra Indian swag...the sketches were in his inventory.

The 2011 Indian's have their own 105 engine. I just saw that on the website.

Every one I have seen on the road had a S&S and a Baker.

But I never shoped in the 30,000. catagory for bikes

This was the 2011 Indian Blackhawk limited edition bike shown at Sturgis last year-the old & new styles clash like Wolfman meets Frankenstein, & a futuristic Indian speedracer concept bike.Brian

That 105 cu in Power Plus engine had a terrible review in the Nov 2009 CycleWorld magazine. Vibrates quite a bit above 3500 rpm, ( no counterbalancer or rubber mounting) Power was measured at 64.5 HP @ 4550 and 94.1 ft Lbs @ 3250. Top speed 98 mph. Price as tested $36,497. Hmmmmm ?????Nice chrome and paint though.....................

When I'm riding up to Charlotte next time I'm gonna stop at the Gastonia Indian dealership ( Again ), this time to checkout the BlackHawk, mainly to see a big bike with smaller saddlebags than my Vision. Hahahahahaha..........................All for just $40,000 out the door.............I hope Polaris has big plans and big pockets....................

I was at the Gastonia store yesterday. That Nighthawk starts in the mid $20s and I thought it was pretty sharp in person as it does bring a bit of a modern cut to the legacy style. I had (small) hopes that the rear cowl would be removable like the one on the Hammers but alas, that is not the case. You can replace the seat with another but there is no passenger perch under there. While I was there I was impressed by the higher end models and the owner and his wife were a pure joy to talk too.
