Columbia, SC | Trying to keep from spending money and I'm wondering if just crumpling a washcloth or wrapping it or something in there will dampen the vibrations enough for me to use it.

I know that the flash drive ones are best, but I'm trying to save $$$ and use the old ipod I have already if possible. |

Rockford, IL | I kinda wonder if it would be better to go the other way and actually mount it with velcro. Or in other words....would engine and road vibrations toast it? Or does bumps and such?
Or maybe stop by a local craft store and get a chunk of soft foam and then cut a pocket and slide the ipod in and then velcro the setup inside the compartment? |

Are you using a Classic iPod with a Hard Drive?
All,
Hard Drive models will die if they are spinning while going road. They use magnetic disks to store the data. Between the vibration of the road and engine and the magnetic fields created by the ignition system they will fail it is just a matter of time.
Be happy and buy a used or new iPod Nano, iPod Touch or iPhone. I get mine used at pawn shops.
Use the Velcro or 3M Scotch Locks to keep the iPod Nano from moving around and it will work better.

Columbia, SC | OK. I was just really hoping the ipod classic would work. I'll be looking on craigslist then for a used, working nano or something. Man! I was hoping to not have to spend money!

Mt. Vernon, WASH. | You might try a camping type bar soap holder and a hunk of 'memory' type foam top and bottom and cut a slot in the end to allow the cord to be hooked up. |

I did something quite similiar to this... I took a plastic face plate holder from my var sterio, cut one end to size and lined it withe firm foam. Works great even with the extra length of the adapter that I am using that also charges the Ipod... |

Camas Washington | This weekend I just ran the extension cable (the one used for the XC) to the trunk rack and used velcro to attach the I-pod to the side. Very easy mod, frees up the space for a cell phn etc and less vibration. |
