I've been getting some mixed info on the Extended Warranty.

If I buy a 3 year extended warranty, does it start at the end of the regular warranty period? (So actually a 4 year). Or does it run concurrently. A 3 year extended is a 3 year warranty?

Thanks for the help.

I believe you are correct that the 3 year extended warranty is 3 years from when you bought it. I am going to buy a 1 extra year and on the quote the dealer gave me was for a 2 year deal. You have a year to buy it and remember, this is a negotiable item. I was able to get a sizable discount.

So, I'm thinking it would be a good thing to wait until my warranty is almost up to purchase the extended.

Northwest of you

I got a one year extended for "cheap".

The dealer tried to talk me out of it, but, my reasoning was "new model, new electronics" wouldn't hurt for $200.

Several dealers have told me that if there is going to be a warranty problem, it will most likely occur in the first year and one said that the average, per bike cost of warranty repairs on Victory's last year was $16.

I have purchased four "new" Victory's in the last two years and have never had a warrant issue.

I purchased 4 years. I asked specifically the question if it is on top of the 1 year manufacturers warranty and he made it very clear that it is additional 4 years after the 1 year manu warranty, so 5 years total. It cost me around $960. Being a first year model and all of the electronics I thought it was good insurance. And before the question is asked it is toe to toe 100% coverage, with no deductible. The only things that aren't covered unless there is a manu defect, is tires, battery and brakes.

I was told I had up to the end of the 1st year warranty to get the additional years if I wanted them. I'm not one on extended warranties because I've never used them, but could have it they lasted a little longer. But the bottom line, I paid all that dough with no issues, and then still had to do repairs after the warranty ended, so I feel I paid double.

I used to read a lot of consumer reports on extended warranties. They basically feel that the extended warranties are not a very good deal for the consumer. I think the logic equates mostly to, they wouldn't offer the extended warranty if they felt they would actually have to repair something during that time. That was mainly cars and electronics, so not sure if the same logic applies to motorcycles or not. Everything that I read about Victory engines are that they are bullet proof. I had a bike mechanic, who didn't sell them, said he had a friend that had over 120K on an older V92 and never had a problem. Said the same guy bought a Vegas and had 60K with no issues. I guess the real question is will you shell out over $900 dollars for repairs on electronics if the engines are that good. I thought about the warranty as well since it is a new bike, but I'll see how I feel when the year is almost up. Even though I am putting more miles on this bike than my older one, I don't but 30K a year on my bike, and I imagine mileage has more to do with repairs that anything else, so I might try my luck and not get the warranty.

Most of the vehicles that I purchase have a high reliability rating, or I don't buy them. Case in point, I spent hours on this forum reading all the posts to see if there were any systemic problems with the Vision before I got serious about actually buying. That's what's great about this forum.....no party line corporate hooey, just the good, the bad, and the ugly, along with some grat entertainment from a few of the more "eccentric" members!

When I purchased my Vision last month, of course the dealer offered the extended warranty during all the paperwork wars that are part of a vehicle purchase. What I noticed was different was that this dealer offered the extended warranty in various years' increments, but also stated that if I did not USE the extended warranty at all, I could get every penny back that I paid for the extended warranty! This made me consider it (lower risk of forking out money for a warranty and then never using it), but in the end I reverted to my old ways....turned it down, figuring that the reliability of the Victory line would treat me right, and if anything were to go wrong, it would be identified and taken care of during the initial one year factory warranty period.
