Hey guys i have a 2009 vv premium tour.
3400 miles on it. I noticed from time to time that the shifter gets pretty stiff. shifting takes a bit more effort. then there are times its smooth. whats could be the issue?

Thank you

Have you changed the oil recently?

Oil change interval for the 09 is 2500 miles. Figuring the first break in service / oil change at 500 miles, the second should have been at 3000. One symptom of extending the oil change interval beyond the recommendations is a "notchy"or "stiff" feeling when shifting.

Also new transmissions (which at 3400 miles this is) tend to be stiff and a little noisy; they break in and get looser/quieter over time.

At the risk of turning this into an oil thread. some owners have changed to full synthetic oil to help alleviate some of this and extend the oil change interval, but there have been reports of clutch issues from some of these changes.

I agree. Probably need to change the oil. Especially if it's that crappy Victory stuff.

There are also reports of people using full synthetic oil and having NO clutch issues, NO "notchy shifting", and running the oil 5000 to 6000 miles. . I've been doing it for over 11 years in Victory bikes. My clutches are fine.

Change your oil. And change your Oil.

might be the oil, but it also could be a problem in the shifter linkage and shaft. I'd have a tech look at it. If it is inconsistant like that, it could be mechanical, as the oil makes it shift smooth at the change and constantly notchy feeling as it gets to the change time. Just my thought.

I know the people at Victory say its okay to go 3500 to 5000 miles between oil changes on the new 2011 models with up-graded trans....but I still say no way...I have no problem changing at 2500/3000, and will continue to do so as I have never had a clutch or engine/trans issue in all the years I have ridden..My bike, my bucks, and my satisfaction.....To each his own as they say.....

the manual says to lube the linkage a long with brake and do both the levers. You should do it every oil change just for the heck of it.

I was just wondering, when you say NO way. do you know something the engineers dont? Honda gw is every 8000 miles , Harleys Oil change interval is over double of the pre-2011 visions, so why couldnt a 2011 vision with the NEW trany go to 5000 miles? 5000 miles isnt even all that much especially if you have alot of highway miles. I know a member on here that goes 5000 miles on his 2008 vision using mobil1 mc oil and even sent his Used oil to blackstone labs to be tested to see how the health of the oil was at 5000 miles and the results came back that he could have went longer... and this was on the older trany... now keep in mind this was NOT with victory oil...

My post is my personal opinion...Not based on what Victory engineers say is okay...If one wants to go 5000 miles that is okay by me...My, no way, comment was meant to me for my own use..I do not ride a lot on the highway and mostly short trips around the area...Also, you stated your friend went over 5000 miles with another oil, not Vic oil, big difference perhaps...I ran Vic oil in my Kingpin changing at intervals that gave me piece of mind and will do the same on the Vision..If they can go longer, which I am sure they can or Victory would not state so, that is fine with me...I just choose to do what makes me happy and comfortable....Thats all, just personal preference......Nothing else.....
