Hi Y'all

I have a 2013 Vision with 1000 miles on it and during my pre ride check, i noticed the Cyclops wasn't working. i checked the connections on the back of the bulb, and i pulled off the center console to make sure the right connection was on and on tight. I looked at the Service Manual, and couldn't find a fuse for it. Do you think the Cyclops could have burned out that fast?

I have seen all of the horror stories about changing headlights, is this one as bad?

Thanks

Dan

I found the center light can indeed be changed. It's not picnic, but it's doable as long as you have hands the size of a baby but with the strength of Superman, and his x-ray vision too. ...hee hee hee...

When I was trying to swap out the OEM halogen for an aftermarket HID, I had no problem. Remove the front air cleaner (2 bolts) and the top trim piece under the windscreen. Have a flashlight handy. You can reach your hand under the headlight assembly and feel your way around. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the aftermarket HID to fit back in the hole so I gave up and put the OEM halogen back in. Waste of space now as the OEM halogen doesn't add any more light than the 2 headlights but I'm not spending $500 for the official Vic HID accessory. Must be something odd about my particular bike as others have said they had no issues.

$500 for new HID?? i see it for $50 (center light) http://victoryhid.com/hid-VISION.php.

And to answer the comment above, i have hands like a catchers mitt and fingers like sausages, so it could be tough to do it myself.

I think i will try the dealer first, since it only has 1000 miles, if they are going to charge me, then i'll make hte switch to something else.

Thanks for your help.

$500 for the "official Victory HID accessory". I tried the VictoryHID light and couldn't get it to fit. Not sure what was wrong.

Hey Dan. did you figure it out? My 2013 is 3 weeks old today and I just hit 2300 miles. The driving light crapped out some time today. I did the same things you did. Going to pull the socket and put a tester on it before I remove the bulb. This is 3 problems in 3 weeks. albeit minor, I hope they come in three's amd that's it. lol

That was easy. I have power to the socket, so the bulb is DOA. Looks a lot easier than the main headlight bulbs to change. Famous last words.

It's a piece of cake to change if you remove the front air filter (2 - 10mm bolts). I'm all thumbs and got the old bulb out in about 10 minutes. Would have taken less time but I didn't know what I was looking for.

Can someone take photos of this procedure and write up some simple steps? It would make a very effective and helpful Tech Reference article.

If nobody's done it by Friday/Saturday, remind me and I'll do it. It won't be a radioteacher/Witchdoctor quality video but it'll be better than nothing.

My PIAA HID isn't being delivered till 11/20. I will give it a shot. I wasn't planning on pulling the headlight assembly out though, just doing the driving light.

Anxiously awaiting videos and write ups. My 2012 with dealer installed HID (not sure of the brand) is intermittent in that it lights up with an apparent parking light (smaller of 2 bulb elements), but the main, larger bulb doesn't always fire. Have wiggled on the harness and gotten it to light, but so far it is inconsistent. Just got her last Saturday and the dealer wants to assist but he is 400 miles away.

Any ideas (thanks to Monkeyman already for his PMs) would be much appreciated.

Will keep you posted.

I just installed the PIAA HS1 HID conversion kit. I LOVE IT. It is far better than the OEM HID that was in my 2008. I wanted to see how effective it was so I shut the bike off while going down the road, tunned it back on and popped the clutch. On the newer bikes I was running with just the HID. (The main headlights stay off till you hit the starter button). It was bright enough with an effective enough beam to drive with just that.

I did end up pulling the whole damn bike apart. Here's the link to that.

Only issue I have is it wreaks havoc on the radio reception, esp AM.

I have a 2013 Vision with 3,500 miles on it and I have the same problem. I called the dealership and they're going to cover it with the warranty...I'm taking in 3 days from now to have the bulb replaced. It does concern me that it failed so soon; I hope the new one has a longer life. I ride with the cyclops light on all the time, maybe I should use it more sparingly.

I have 46k miles in just over 3 years use, and HID is fine. BUT I use it very sparingly even though I drive at night several times per week. Only use it when weather conditions make it harder for cages to see me, or I'm flying down a dark, unfamiliar road at night in bad weather. Maybe 20 times, for total use of 15hrs run time.

My '13 center light failed at about 5K miles. I put in a new bulb and now just use it at night. There's another thread about this problem if you search for it. You can also replace the 35 watt original bulb with a regular 55 watt. Turns out it fits fine even though one of the locating pins is a slightly different size. I don't remember the details but its discussed in the older thread.

Just noticed today my halogen driving light was dead- 3,100 miles on a 2013. Kinda silly that it didn't make it 6 months!

I'm glad it isn'tjust me, I just noticed mine is out AGAIN!! first one was about 2 weeks after I bought my Vision, and the new one just died this weekend. 2 in as many months. could it be a power surge from when the bike is started? I like running my cyclops all the time.

Absolutely! At 3,500 miles I had the same issue with my 2013 Vision. I took it to the dealership and it was fixed under warranty; bad bulb. I was using it all the time, now I just use it sparingly.
