Town creek, AL United States | is it just me or is the factory hid bulb just not very bright.most times i cant even tell when i turn it on.last night it was very foggy going in from work and it didnt help at all.is there a better replacement bulb and where would be the best place to find it. |

Northern Illinois | If your 2012 is stock, I don't believe you have an HID, just another halogen (like the main headlights). They stopped installing the HID as original equipment after 2011.
The HID is available from the factory, but it's about $500.
Check out victoryhid.com he sells kits that will give you HID in the center, or all headlights on the bike if you wish. |

Chattanooga, TN | Just checked those out johnnyvision. Looks like an easy upgrade and was wondering if my eyes/mind were playing tricks on me as they often do. Are these really a direct install in a factory light housing that is non-HID? |

Chattanooga, TN | I figured as much! At least I planned on it seeing as hot its been such a pain for others to change out their bulbs I figured I'd do it the first time anyway to get familiar with the procedure. What I'm wondering is really is this a direct plug and play system? No splicing wires etc at this point? |

Akron Ohio area | First, all the aftermarket HID bulbs are illegal.
They do not meet DOT specs.
Most of the honest sellers of these kits will fess up to the fact that they are intended for off-road use only.
There is no direct replacement.
In other words, you can't put an HID bulb in the existing socket and expect it to work.
Among other things, a ballast is needed, and a projector style luminaire rather than the reflector luminaire that is used for the stock bulbs.

Rancho Cucamonga, CA | I have put an aftermarket HID into the Cyclops location and it works great. MUCH better than the HS1 Halogen bulb that was there. The ballast plugs into the HS1 plug, then the HS1 HID bulb plugs into the ballast. Plug-n-Go. You can secure the ballast in the same spot designed for the OEM ballast.
I bought the PIAA HID conversion kit and find the light spread to be perfect. Far brighter than the main headlights, but filling in everything just underneath them.
As bigfoot mentioned, installing a HID into any lens not specifically manufactured for HID bulbs will not meet DOT standards, thus illegal. Saying that, since Victory does make a lens designed for a HID Cyclops, I think you would be very hard pressed to find someone of authority that could tell that your aftermarket HID is not the OEM HID. The only way to tell, is that the aftermarket have a HS1 base, but that would require disassembly to notice.
