I know I saw a thread about this but I can't find it...When I go to 1st gear, sometimes my gear indicator display shows I'm in 2nd or 3rd...And when I'm in Second sometimes it shows me in 3rd...And sometimes my display will change while sitting at a red light from 1st, to 2nd, to 3rd....What is the fix for this???

I have to take my Vision in for the Front Fork Oil change  (15,000 miles) and I am going to have the dealer fix the gear indicator display while she is there... and a couple of other MINOR issues, under warranty...

i have this issue as well.. ive read where they replaced the gear indictor switch. (less than $25) but some labor is involved! ive read where others changed their oil and it stopped... This happened to me but it ALWAYS comes back.. and it only does it until 3rd gear then it stops. I AM curious about how this will effect my Green N light. i just got my speedo replaced under warranty. the Green (N) light has been burned out for months now and right around that time the gear indictor start to go nutz. so im curious if when im REALLY in (N) if the light will stay green but the indictor will still jump.....

Yeah I kept searching and found the threads about this issue...It is the resistive bolt and some switch where the display gets it's value from...As far as the Neutral light goes...That shoudl be If it's in Neutral it's there..."I think" this is a TRUE SPST switch when you hit NEUTRAL....but not 100% sure.

ive read where some "cleaned" the bolt and then later had to replace the switch and bolt anyways.. i would say if you have to get in there and do all the work to Gain access too it (remove exhaust) then why not just replace the switch and bolt? its pretty darn cheap.. and since the labor is the same either way? Unless i am missing something? i was shocked how cheap in price that swtich is.. i think i expected it to cost more becuase of my dashboard being close to a $800-$900 piece..

Yeah...They (the dealership) is/are going to do it under warranty...but first "THEY" have to "troubleshoot it" before they can replace any parts... ;> yeah OK!!

I have the same problem with my 2008 Vision and they are saying that something is just dirty and the factory warranty representative my dealer talked to said its a common problem but since its not anything mechanical that my extended warranty won't cover it ? They factory warrenty rep told them it was more then likely from running off brand oil but since the bike has never had anything but Victory oil in it that's a cop out - to be honest it is somewhat frustrating!!

Does anyone know how hard it is to get to the sensor and bolt to clean it? They said it has to do with percentage of ground current and if there is a build up of "gunk" on it it will not read correctly and "bounce " around. The dealership I took it too is brand new to the Vision line and mine is the first one they have worked on but they are one of the biggiest power-sports dealerships in Kansas City and have been around for a long time and have had Polaris as long as I can remember and I have used them for years for my other toys so I feel they are doing there best but the factory is resisting telling them it's not there deal -

I absolutly love my bike and said I would never own any other bike but a Victory but this is making me question my plans for trading it in for another new vision after the summer if there fix is accusing me of running wrong brand of oil and all but giving me the old slap on the shoulder and saying good luck

its NOT cause by oil.. when i had my 08 vision it did this with OEM oil in it.. i tried other brands, amsoil, mobil, rotella etc and it did it all the time. it is actually mechanic/electical, meaning parts needs replaced... i think there is even a YOUTUBE video of this exact thing! and even shows you what needs replaced... also on my 11 vision i do not have this problem at all and im using the same oil(s) i did before on my 08 when it had the problem...

At this point I just want it fixed and hoping its something I can do myself , seems like Victory is just out to make excuses to keep from having to warrenty it

Any advice on what it takes to change it would be welcomed, I looked on YouTube and couldn't find anything

My 08 has done it from 2-3rd oil change. With fresh oil it behaves, however when oil is closer to change the more it acts up. Vic oil is at about 2000 miles, however with full syn it begins around the 8500 mile range. I would like it fixed however, this is the first bike I have owned with a gear indicator, so I rarly look at it and does not affect drivability, or safety.

I use mine all the time. This is my first bike with 6 speeds so I use it mostly to see if I'm in 5th or 6th.

also on my 11 vision i do not have this problem at all and im using the same oil(s) i did before on my 08 when it had the problem...
You probably already know this but starting in 2011 they no longer calculate the gear selected with the gear indicator switch like in the older bikes. '11 and newer bikes calculate the gear by comparing road speed and engine rpm. That's why they can't display the gear when the clutch is pulled in except for neutral. In this way they got around the erratic gear output. Downside is obviously that you don't know what gear you're in when you're sitting at a light with the clutch pulled in. Btw, Harley does the same thing when they display their near impossible to see little green "6" when in sixth gear.

I didn't know that. That would explain the "--" when the clutch is pulled in. Thanks for the explanation.

Sometimes one display will read N and the other 2 when in neutral. Never noticed when moving, I use the tach and speed but don't notice the gear much.

Has anyone changed the sensor themselves ? How hard was it and how long did it take ?

I don't pay that much attention to my indicator but I've noticed the lower the gear the loader the clunk which actually makes sense.

Center LED readout on the dash. Big numbers (and letter) N123456. It'll show "--" if you're riding with the clutch pulled in. Or were you joking?
