Subject: Passenger Backrest Modification

Both my wife and my friend's wife constantly complain that the passenger backrest is too far back. It holds them in a slightly leaned back position which causes them to constantly slide forward in the seat. This has been going on with my wife since we had the '10 bike and has continued with the '11 while Bob's wife who is now riding on the '10 complains about the same thing. The other day I decided to do something about it since we're planning an East Coast tour this summer. When looking at the backrest from above it is obvious what the problem is. The backrest is a good 2" beyond the rear of the seating area. I removed the pad and took it to my local upholstery shop and had him add 2" of high quality foam and sculpt it to leave a slight concave effect. It really came out great and he was even able to find the exact same material as original to remake the cover out of. This solved the problem. He only charged $150 to boot which I thought was pretty reasonable. If anybody else would like the same modification done just send it to me and I'll take it over there for you and then ship it back. Here are some pics of the one he did today.
