I measured the axle nut and it is less that 1 1/8 and more than 27mm and less than 28mm. What size to use?

Did you measure with a scale or more acuratley with micrometer/calipers?

1 1/8 or 1.125 = 28.575mm
27mm = 1.0629 or 1 1/16
28mm = 1.102 no real inch size in a wrench

Just use the one that fits the tightest. But from what you stated, I'd try the 28mm

Just an FYI:
to convert fractions to decimals divide the top by the bottom: 1/8 or 1 divided by 8 = .125
To convert inches to mm multiply by 25.4: 1/2" or .500 x 25.4 = 12.7mm
To convert mm to inches muntiply by .03937 28mm x .03937 = 1.102"

And that my friends is your lesson for today! Ok school's out... go ride!

Used digital calipers. in inch scale measured 1. 078 and I believe closer to 28 than 27mm. As far as interpreting the 1'st reply the asnwer may as well been Greek to me.

I use a Craftsman 1 1/16 wrench to remove mine. Fits snuggly.

Ok I re-read devilboy's post and my question and can see where I may been misunderstood. I meant to ask what size socket to use. The specs refering to fasteners is something I have little experience in other than thread pitch to determine tap and die measuments.

I believe he was giving you the thread size vs the size of the wrench you needed to remove/tighten.

27mm, or 1"1/16 either socket will work

wasn't sure what you were asking for. I though you needed to replace the nut.
I guess if you lost the nut you had a lot more trouble than figuring out what size wrench you needed to take it off..
