This is some good information that relates to a question in an earlier thread by "exharlyrider". He commented on the value of using battery maintainers to keep your battery in top shape.

I couldn't agree more. We all know how batteries in any small engine machines that aren't used often, say during winter, are notorious for requiring a new battery every year or so. I discovered this company a couple years ago and was a little skeptical at first. Mind you I found the company recommended by a Gold Wing club on line, but I still needed to be convinced.

I decided to research further and, long story short, I use this charger on all my bikes, mowers, boat etc. The link below will take you to an inexpensive model that works great for bikes.

When you go to the web page, scroll down to the lower half and there are a series of tabs that are loaded with studies and independent articles about both the subject of battery life and this particular product.

BTW I am in no way affiliated with this company and have no interests other than to pass on some great info to those interested.

The cheapest place I have found to purchase a Battery Minder is at this web site.

I've been using a couple of these for my toys now for two years and all the batteries measure the voltage of a new battery. Some of them are going on five years old. My toys stay plugged in anytime they aren't being used. Don't worry it won't hurt the battery.

Good luck and don't buy unless you are convinced.

good info but stay away from northern tool. i bought a 4000 watt generator there and when i needed a minor part which they should have had on the shelf they said fybyoyo in many languages. btw fybyoyo means f$#k you buddy you're on your own. won't even take their free stuff after that. couldn't even tell me the manufacturer so i could get the part. had to find an electronics store 3 states away who a friend just happened to know. he had the same generator and the same issue. fwiw

Sorry to hear about your bad experience with Northern. I have done business with them for years without a single problem. Sometimes things just aren't meant to be.

Have you used the battery minder or what other brand have you owned?

What got my attention the most about the Battery Minder brand is that a few aircraft battery manufacturers and aircraft companies recommend them. To me that says a lot. And of course we do consider our Visions to be an aircraft of sorts.

I bought this one, haven't used it yet

I found out my automotive 2 amp charger's clamps were too big to hook up to the Vision battery while in the bike, after having the trunk light left one and drain the batter to nil....

I've got the battery minder for my Vision which sells for $46.90 with free ground shipping from: http://www.pacificbattery.com/batteryminder.html

and I also wound up getting the schauer CM1A from the same vendor which they have replaced with the YUASA Smart Shot 900 for $29.90 plus shipping, appears to have the exact same features, I've been using this one since Jan. on my 8-Ball which I've had since April '05, battery is still going strong.

I use Battery Tender made in FL. I had to replace the battery in my '99 last year after 8 years. I really don't see getting more than that out of one no matter what fancy terminology they use. :P

Proves my point! That's great news and think of the ton of money you saved compared the the guys that buy a new battery every couple of seasons. And I bet your alternator is in great shape because of it.

Ride safe and without battery worries!

Pulsetech Redipulse Charger/maintainer M/N RP-6-12.... I've pulled completely dead batteries back to life with this thing and those dead batteries are still working 2 years later.
The redipulse is different than a tender in that it restores the battery by removing the oxidation that keeps the battery from charging and holding a charge, a deep cycle charge.
Use one or not makes no diff to me BUT I've NEVER replaced a bike battery since I started using the redipulse so I'm sold.
