Fellow Riders

Well I went to the dealership today to pay off the cost of installing the accessories I had put on my new 2013 VV. After further thought and based on the chief VV mechanic and the owner of the dealership, I decided to order the reverse kit. Being vertically challenged, 5'6" and weighing in at a wopping 150# and living in a very hilly part of the country (CT)/New England, I felt that it would be money well invested. No I wasn't talked into it...I come to trust this dealer who is a friend of mine. He's looking out for my best interest and he too is 5'6". He gave me the bike at $150 over his cost and all accessories including riding gear etc at his cost. Labor too was discounted.

If you have the reverse kit on your VV I would be interested in hearing your experiences.

Hi Tom,
Also in Connecticut, Southwest corner. Also vertically challenged at 5'7". I have it only because it came on the bike but if I were to order another bike I wouldn't pay extra for it. It's handy if you screw up and park pointed downhill but with a little self discipline you learn to park where you can pull through or back in. I use mine about twice a year, more to exercise the mechanism than out of need but it has helped me out of a jam too. If you struggle at all with the size of the bike, I strongly recommend the Ride Like A Pro video series, it helped me improve my abilities greatly. Best of luck with your new ride.

If you pull a trailer often it would come it handy. Especially when a car parks in front of your intended escape path. I do not have reverse and I pull a trailer. I can't say that I have ever really NEEDED it. The two times a cage has blocked my route I easily got out of the situation. One time I just asked a guy walking by to give me a slight push to start me rolling backwards. I did the rest from there. The other time I simply picked up the rear of the trailer and swung it around so it was pulling the bike downhill backwards. Reverse would have been nice in those cases, but I don't think I would pay extra for it.

Anny came with it. Sure I only use it few times a year not counting when washing. I am 5' 9" but I only have a 28" inseam. When I wash my bike in the driveway there is a good incline front and back. I use reverse to back out because I have so much better control. If you have reverse you don't have to worry so much about how others park near you. Is it worth $1500 dollars? For me yes, for people that drive around looking for the cheapest gas not so much.
Let us know after you have had it a while. Don't get nervous if it doesn't show the "R" when reversing but if you don't get the "N" it will probably shutdown as a safety feature. If it doesn't want to give you the "N" just turn the key off for 30 seconds to clear the computer and it should be fine. I've had the adjustment checked a couple of times and it's within parameters.

Now if Americans were like the Puerto Rican M/C Club at Sturgis none of us would need reverse. The first guy backs in and then pushes every other bike in. They park 20 bikes in about 30 seconds in traffic. Nice bunch of folks.

After trying to maneuver my bike on my drive and in my garage, I am definitely glad I decided to go ahead with having the reverse kit installed. I just can't get enough leverage even on a slight incline. It will also provide me peace of mind knowing going into a tough parking area that I have reverse at my disposal.

Sounds like a good choice for you. Having a short wife riding a CR I know what you are going through. I had reverse on the GW I owned and used it quite a bit just because it was there.

If you can find a pair of boots with a 2" heel that will help out too.

I am 6 ft and am able to flat foot on the Vision. I am glad to have the reverse kit anyway. Don't use it a lot but when I do I am glad to have it. When loaded down with gear and riding two up it has helped in sloped situations. In my opinion it was worth the investment

I am 5-5 with a 28 inch inseam . Had reverse put on before I took her home . Did have a problem with the strarter button after about a year , every time
it rained it would short out which made the reverse not work . Money well spent in my opinion .

Red Rider, Puerto Ricans are Americans. Get your story straight, PR is a US territory just likwe American Samoa is. I agree that club or group cooperation can make all the difference but I object to you implying that they are not Americans.

I'm 6' and weigh 220 and can push Liandra back without a problem, but sure is nice to not have to. Rocky parking lots, sand on the drive, a little slope at the gas pump, or any other situation that a slip could dump us backing and I use reverse. I got mine as a uninstalled in the box second hand unit. My buddy and I used his lift and it came with great instructions. Will not own another Vision without it.
