I was wondering for the vision with the slit in the seat, which is the option (price) for adding a drivers backrest? I noticed victory has their own backrest but they expect you to pay close to $100 just for the mount?! What have others done? Im not thrilled about buying victory over $300 for a drivers backrest. (pad + mount).

I'm a cheap SOB, so I spent a lot of time and effort looking for a low cost solution, and was not successful. I was even willing to do some of fabrication. In the end I couldn't beat the cost and quality that Utopia backrests provide, so I got one. My back says it is worth every penny.

i just noticed if you ADD the quick release to the utopia it closes in on the price difference between the victory backrest & mount and the utopia setup. =( i surely want to be able to quickly remove my backrest since i would only really use it on trips or situations where it might be just me riding.

Next month I'll bite my lip order my back rest from utopia. I'm sure when I get it on and am riding I'll totally forget the cost and be happy with it. Might as well go whole hog and get the quick release with it and be done with it. Eric

I'd highly recommend the quick release. I have the Vic version, not the Utopia, but I have yet to have a passenger on that felt comfortable with it there.

The Utopia is considerably larger than the Vic, but I don't know if it's more passenger friendly in spite of it's size.

I have the Vic backrest and on my wife's maiden voyage last weekend, she refused to let me use my backrest. She had general objections regarding the driver's backrest, but specifically objected to the adjustment knob/bolt being in a rather awkward position should she suddenly slide forward.

thats exactly what i was wanting to here. can a passenger ride on back with the VIC backrest comfortably.. i know when i had my other vision and i had the utopia that was a NO GO for having a passenger and backrest at the same time. i guess its the same with both.. so utopia ill probably get..

Trade offs no matter which one you choose, I suppose.
My observations

Vic: $330 no s/h if you pick up in dealership
Utopia: $280 plus s/h

Size, shape, function
Vic: Smaller but IMO very comfortable and supportive and looks better on the bike. Fore and aft adjustable while riding
Utopia: Larger so may be more supportive and comfortable? IMO, the big square shape is out of place on the curvacious Vic and you can't adjust it while riding.

Passenger comfort
I wouldn't ride on the back with either one of them. One little slide forward and it looks like there would be a LOT of pain involved. Still, the cool looking adjustment knob on the Vic looks especially vic ious when it's pointed directly at your crotch. That could be replaced with something a little less intimidating, I guess. I still wouldn't ride on back with it or the Utopia though.

The Utopia looks like it's larger size might give more support, but I've found the Vic to be plenty large enough to give adequate comfort and support. I do like being able to adjust it while I"m riding. I don't think you can with the Utopia.

Oh yeah, the little bag is a little bigger on the Utopia too.

My wife who is 5'11" had the same problem with the adjustable knob, its not in a very friendly spot for a female if you know what I mean, plus it has a sharp point. The simple fix is to remove it and replace with a chrome allen head bolt. I also went with a short stem thus it is screwed in all the way. no more complaints! I'm also going to replace that stupid little pack on the back with a much larger one (like the utopia one) and have some padding added were the bolt is.

Just my 2 cents... I've had both the Utopia (on my 2009 Vision) and now a Victory drivers backrest (on my 2011).

I don't believe either backrest is all that great for a passenger, as it takes up some of the passenger space because of the way it is mounted.  Either backrest will take away at least a couple of inches from the passenger seating area.  Having said that, the Victory backrest is narrower than the Utopia and therefore doesn't spread the passenger's legs out as much as the wider Utopia backrest.

And everyone is correct that the adjuster knob on the Victory backrest is very awkward for a passenger.  I have found the simple fix is to just remove the knob when my wife is on the back and put it in the pouch.  I can't adjust the position of the backrest, but with her pressure on the backrest it still provides plenty of support for me and it doesn't bother her.

I wish the Vision had more room for the passenger.  I've tried sitting on the back with the bike parked and found it to be very restrictive.  I guess it's a good thing I don't ride bitch, and that my wife feels very comfortable on the back.
