I've read references to the Vision GPS being the Garmin 2720 and also the 2820. Can someone verify which one is correct?

Also, if I have my dealer install the GPS mount (about $100 I think), and buy a 2820 will it connect directly, or will I have to modify something?

I can buy a factory refurbished 2820 for $399, so this option is considerably cheaper than the $1,000 Victory wants. I have owned two other refurbished Garmin's and they have been great, and they come with a 1 year warranty.

Thanks,

Mike

Mike the Victory supplied garmin is the 2720.
the 2820 will be an exact fit for mount with NO modifications to any wiring or mount
2820 can hook up XM antenna and also is bluetooth capable.

Thanks DevilBoy,

I just found the 2720 (new) at Amazon for $299, and the 2820 (also new) for $465. Amazon also sells the 2730 (has XM and MP3 without Bluetooth) for $499 which includes the ant. All of these sure beat the Victory price.

I would consider the Zumo, but don't want to get into the modifications required.

Appreciate your help...

Mike

I'm a little shocked that not only does victory want 1G for a gps unit. But it is according to Garmin already outdated and discontinued. Im not so shocked about the price as i am about the Vision being so new and the Gps being already Discontinued.

I talked to Victory about this several months ago and here is what I was told. When they started working on the integration of the GPS the 2720 was the current model and they were also working with Radio Sound the manufacture of the audio system.

The interface from the audio system to connect to the GPS only supports a mono signal, the same as the 2720 and the 2820 has a stereo output. This should not be a big deal as you can convert stereo to mono easy enough.

I am sure we will see an upgraded for 2009 in which the latest and greatest from Garmin will be supported. I hope Radio Sound enhances their system also.

I really wish they would stop messin' around and put in a Bose, Harmon-Kardon, or similar. Charge a little more and have a first rate system in a first rate bike.

Both Fergy and I went with the Garmin Zumo 550 and I really like it. I bought the mounting bracket from Arizona Victory for the Zumo and installed it myself. I really like the features of the Zumo 550 over the 2820. If you do a search for Zumo 550 you should find the threads and posts where I detail the advantages of the Zumo 550 over the 2820 for a motorcycle.

I spliced the power and audio from the Zumo into the same wiring connector on the Vision as for the 2720 and it works great.

Thanks Spock,

I thought about the Zumo, but the part about splicing the wiring sounds like more than I want to get into. The 2830 plugs right in, and is a great GPS.

At this point I'm still open to ideas...

Ok if you use a garmin 2720 but you do NOT want to use the vision mounting system. AND if you use a ram mount, How would you power this unit?

You could splice in front of the harness made for the integration cable. I don't recommend splicing in front of the integration plug because Victory might not be happy if you have to get the radio warrantied afterwards. You could buy the mount/cable and splice the OEM integration cable for power and audio (did this with Magellan and it worked well until TSA murdered my beloved GPS in my suitcase). When I spliced mine I saved the original GPS plug for the Touratech end. Because my other GPS died, I had an excuse to buy the lockable 2720 (I got it refurb for about $140 off eBay). You can't buy JUST the power/audio cable. Spock made a pinout for the cable a bunch of posts back, you'd have to search for it. You could also just use the schematics from the service manual to mod your own since it's only 4 wires (mono audio and +/- DC). You could run power from the powerlet to the included accessories that the 2720 car kits come with (assuming you have a powerlet-cigarette adaptor). You could tap power from the harness under the rear tank panel. I believe the tap is there for the customer to install another powerlet to run heated clothing or such. It may also be a factory option thing. Just be careful with what you plug into it. It's not made to handle too much amperage.

Spock, are you saying you were able to integrate the Zumo into the victory audio system so you can hear it through the spakers similar to the 2720?
