So I decided to take the trunk off the vision, which is a relatively easy task once you know how, and really love how it looks. However I wish I would have watched the YouTube video prior to taking it off because they discuss the license plate and how it can scratch the paint. That is a good tip, one I wished I would have followed. Now I have a couple gouges by the plate area, which was sickening. So I'll be taking the trunk over (since it's off) and having it reshot.

The question I have is this. My bike is the silver and black version and in the back the center pieces are all black, and the trunk lid is all black but the body of the trunk is all silver and it kinda stands out (in a weird way). I was thinking that since he has to touch it up that he could paint the center section all black and just leave the sides silver. That way when you look at it from the rear the black stripe continues all the way through the bike and the sides of the trunk would remain silver to match the bags.

Here is the section I want to paint black, the entire underbelly of the rear of the trunk, leaving the sides as they are:

I like your idea of the paint continuing up to the trunk - matches the flow of the rest of the bike.

The vision with and without the trunk is like two different bikes - hey we got a '2 for 1' here

Have it masked so you wind up with a thin matching pinstripe right on the edge of the trunk backpanel and help the eye flow to the grab bars.

I like your black paint idea but i have a question too. I have never had the trunk off for any reason. Did yours come with a plate to cover the hole left or did you buy one later. I can not tell from your pics but there seems to be a raised part around the passenger seat. is that part of the seat or an extra piece. I like the look without the trunk but the wife would think i was dropping hints if I took her "queen seat apart". I would also have to remove the arm rests and then she would really get upset. she loves those things.

Painting it black would look pretty good, be a nice "flow" of the color scheme. And since you wouldn't need to order Victory paint it will probably be cheaper.

But....the slight drawback is in order to be done correctly the whole trunk base will need to be clear coated. If you paint and clear just the black there will be a "hardline" of paint between the black and silver. The other option is to put a stripe between the two colors and cover the hardline.

Not sure who you plan on having paint this but you don't need your Vic dealer do it, any collision facility can do it.

I would even consider having the lock cylinder disassembled by a locksmith and having it painted black, then you won't have a chrome "dot" interrupting the black.

From what I have been told Fords black is as close as you get to the Vic black. Some one told me there is 32 different shades of black. Great idea.

You have to buy the panel that covers up the trunk hole. What you want to do is order a replacement part its the cheap way. If you order it as a exercise it coast more .

I remove and install my trunk weekly. I have a 3/8 DOT air brake line that I have slit and slip it on the top of the plate, I also trimmed the edge of the filler panel so that it can be installed without removing the seat or losening the rear panels. I also never completly plug the wiring harness in so that I do not have to fight to unplug it. With all my tools and everything I can install or remove in under 10 mins!

Norcan-

Any chance you can post some pictures and/or a description of how you trimmed the trim panel?

yeah that would be great, I found out the hard way I had to take the seat off again and lift up panels to install the filler panel. I really love the look of the trunk off and on actually, I love both!

As for the earlier questions.

yes you have to buy the panel, I got lucky and a local member had a spare and gave me a good deal, I went and picked it up tonight.

As for clearing the entire trunk I will most likely have my painter do that so I don't have to worry about the lines. He would probably insist on it anyway. He's really good. He did my 109 Saddlebags with flames and it was awesome. This should be a cake walk to do. I'm going to drop it off tomorrow and hope it's ready before my trip.

Also while I was there I had that silly license plate holder anyway so I drilled out the bottom of the plate where the mounting holes are and just use those and removed the bracket entirely. Much cleaner look and easy on/off without fussing with the hole location for the plate mount, lousy design there for sure.

Here's crazy. I would take my trunk off if the wife is not going but SHE ALWAYS wants to go go too! I think the trunkless look is awesome but then the trunk is not too bad either. That being said, I've never rode on the back yet she says it is very comfortable.

hey X, I have the same paint scheme on my 2011 and always thought that the graphics should have been continued onto the sides of the trunk IMHO.

Dropped the trunk off Saturday to get it painted should have it back by the end of the week! Will post some pictures when it's all done. The painter agreed the black stripe in the middle should look great and tone down the back and make things flow better...

I'm considering painting the whole bike black and making it like the 8 Ball but one step at a time...

That silver and black is fly as hell, man. I think your paint idea is solid.
