My wife has developed tailbone pain on the back seat of the Vision ( over several months , she has lost a great deal of weight). Anyone els have experience with this ? I would love to hear some ideas on how others addressed this. Seat mods? Special cushion? Thanks for any help. I want to make sure she is comfortable before we go to the AVR next year.

According to the chicks I have had on the back of my Vision (and there have been more than several ranging in size from 95 to 150 lbs), it's the MOST COMFORTABLE passenger seat they have ever been on, bar none. Maybe she needs her own ride?

Is your seat equipped with gel pads? if not, Winter is the perfect time to have some installed along with a custom leather cover!

I am looking to modify the seat for her . I just need to figure out in what way to address this specific issue. THis is not a general discomfort issue but specific to and related to her weight loss and not having as much "junk in the trunk". She loves to ride as much as I do and will hang in there come hell or high water. She isn't a complainer. I just want her to enjoy some long distance riding without the pain that she has but is hesitant to acknowledge. I have been looking at that tapered upward back rim of the passenger seat. It's in htat seam that it bothers her I think. I just put this post out here because i thought others might have had similar problems. I know there was a driver with this problem on here before. Just don't remeber what he did to remedy.

I sent my seat out to Russell (www.day-long.com) to get redone. My wife and I both love it. Tailbone pain gone.

I here good things about Russell day long. I was thinking Russell didn't modify Vision seats anymore. Maybe I'm mistaken and thinking about another seat company.

I just had mine done about 6 months ago. You will need to supply a stock seat or the pan.

ScoreBo, I have a Russell on my TC and absolutely love it.
However, it looks very different from the oem seat.
How does your Russell Vison compare to the oem in looks?

It looks a lot different than the stock seat (because of the wing supports).

That is a stock Victory driver's backrest. I did NOT have that recovered by Russell. The seat itself is done in leather. You can see where the tailbone area is recessed from the rest of the seat. This helps to distribute the load across the seat better.

Just a thought $19 gel pad from Walmart works fantastic. It has a rough bottom side so it won't slide around and it's gel. When she's not riding throw it in the garage. I use it on my long 2000+ mile trips and I love it. Also the Ness seat is nice as well, 1" shorter and has 1" of memory foam added to it. It's about $300 and very comfy. I hear the Corbin is nice too for about $750. I love Corbins I have had them on every bike I've owned in recent years including my new ZX-14R. The Ness seat I have though is so comfortable (its like a recaro seat) I haven't needed to spend the $$$ on a Corbin yet for the Vision.

Russell is great no doubt but very pricey option.

@Jimtom, I kept the stock heat. Russell can add heat too, if you don't have it on your model.
@OldGringo, total time shipped door-to-door was almost 3 weeks. 3-4 days each way for shipping and about 7 days at Russell.

The wife and I both swear by the Butt Buffers (I still have two of them). I just got tired of having it strapped to the seat, or being left in the garage when we would head out, having it on the seat and wishing I could turn on the butt warmer, getting caught in the rain with it, etc.

Like PhantomX said, Russell seats aren't inexpensive. You're looking at, or around, $1,000 for leather. For me, it was well worth it. I can vouch that you can literally ride all day long (4 hours on the stock Vision seat and my tailbone was screaming - my 2008 stock Vision seat was better). I will also say that Kim Elder at Russell will give you the best customer service you have ever experienced.

I had looked long and hard at seat reviews on the web. It came down to DannyGray.com and their integrated AirHawk seat and Russell. There wasn't enough info out there on Danny Gray, but a cult following on Russell. It was a no brainer for me.

If you and / or your wife aren't comfortable on the bike, you won't use it like you want.

My neighbor lady lost about 85 lbs and they rise a GW trike. She has the same issue your wife does. I have an AirHawk that I loaned her to try. Her tailbone now rests on the seat causing the pain. I will let you know how it worked next time I see here.

Tailbone. I assume you mean her sacrum. Just trying to be exact. If that is indeed the case it's really an easy fix. Just have youyr seat modified to provide a "space" where her sacrum and the seat meet. Or better yet, get a pad (gel or air) that provides that space and let her try it before modifying your seat. And of the advantage to a pad that rests on the seat is the ability to move the pad around for comfort. Can't do that with a seat mod.
Just a thought.

And one more thought. What would you do if this was your car seat? Stop more often? Would she move her butt around more often? Yes, there is more room on a car seat, but not much these days.

Another inexpensive fix you might try is a beaded "cushion". You'd think sitting on wooden beads would be uncomfortable, but they're just the opposite. When I drove a truck (150k miles/year), I had some. 800 mile days were a piece of cake. They'll also keep you cooler in summer and warmer in winter. You can find them anywhere from eBay to your local Wal Mart.

I am very thankful for this forum and you guys! These are some great proven ideas. Thank y'all. She feels guilty about the issue and won't tell me she is hurting on longer rides. She is a keeper. I like what I have read about the Russell seat and I love the way it looks but I can't go without riding 3 days , much less 3 weeks. When I get ol' Blue back and have something to ride, I may ship my seat off. It is expensive , I don't have to have the leather so maybe that will help some on price. Meanwhile , I will try some of the other suggestions. Thanks again!

Jimtom , what year is your vision? I have a 09 seat sitting on a shelf, I am using one from HMD with memory foam. If you want I can loan you my extra seat, so you can send yours off, or send mine off and give me yours when the custom seat gets in.

wow thanks Justin! The seat mod is not something I could afford anytime soon. It would be a "tax refund purchase". Money has been tight lately. I'm going to try one of the temporary less expensive suggestions until we can swing the seat mod if that is what we decide will resolve the issue. I wish I could set my wife on scorebo's seat to make sure it would work. I really appreciate your generous offer and when the time comes, if you still have the seat, that would really be helpful. I haven't given up on the passenger peg mounts you make, like i said , things have just been pretty tight . God bless you.
