Across the river in Kentucky a drunk crossed the centerline and hits a bike head-on killing a 12-year-old boy riding with his dad.

Just across the field from my home on I-64 today.

A woman who missed her exit couldn't drive another 400 feet and make a U-Turn on an legal exit, made an illegal U-Turn in the crossover and hit a Harley motorcycle going the other direction.

Both the Harley driver and rider were knocked off the bike!
They were life flighted to the hospital with "very serious" injuries.

NOTHING makes me madder then idiots who make illegal U-Turns on an Interstate Highway just so they can save a few minutes of time so they won't have to take the next exit.
The place where the Harley Bike was hit today has had several serious accidents (and deaths) in the past. Yet, the cops are only looking for speeders and only ticket at this spot when there's and accident.

Here where i live. There was a case where a man used his pickup trunk as a weapon to run down a biker and his passenger. The guy just got out of jail and seen his X-girlfriend with another man. They were on his sportster going for a ride, and he came up from behind and ran them down....

I'm sure others have gotten this feeling as well, that we are a target, just because we ride or worse yet, what we ride. I've been crowded many times by a pick-up or SUV only to see it sporting an HD emblem of some sort. It would seem they would be the one to give you room. Of course there are those who flat out don't see us as I've had to "dance" with a little old lady or man on the road on a few occassions.

Prayers for the family and friends of these riders and for who ride.

Vehicle used as a weapon happened here not too long ago. Guy on four wheels decided to bump a motorcycle after some kind of beef. The bike's fender pushed into the tire causing it to lock. Rider high sided and was killed.

People who hate bikes.

I have a good one.

A couple weeks ago I was driving just a few miles from my home when I looked in my mirror and saw a car that came out of nowhere riding just a few feet off my butt. She rode me without passing for about 2 miles until I turned onto the county road towards home.

She never even slowed and went around me on the shoulder covering me and my bike with small gravel!

It just peed me off.
I held up my middle finger and she saw it in her mirror.

As I was cruising down the county road I saw a car coming up behind me FAST.
I pulled into the driveway of my bother's home because I had no idea who or what was coming, and I wanted out of its way.

Turns out the woman in the tailgating car was an off duty county cop in her private car. She pulled into the driveway and made all kinds of threats about what ‘she could do to me'. (it would seem she doesn't like anyone giver her the bird)

I was now pee'd off because someone in law enforcement really thought they had the right to endanger another just because they were in a hurry!

She then screamed at me that she was tailgating me to check my speed because when she was coming up behind me I ‘appeared' to be speeding (mind you she was in her private car, not on duty, and she stated was in a hurry)

While she was still threatening me I got my cell phone out and dialed 911.
While she tried attempted to take my phone away I explained what was going on.

All said and done she got back in her car and sped off.
She later called my home and told me how much trouble I am in. (she called in my plate number and got my name and looked up my phone number)

I have filed a complaint and am pressing charges.
Her boss has reprimanded her and asked me to drop the charges.
I WON'T!

Personally, I'd like to see her lose her job!

Hit and Run
I did notice that someone in Michigan hit a bike on Friday and ran.

Guess I am more keyed on bike accidents then I use to be.

Stick it to them Road Runner. These cops think they are special. They forget all about their oath to serve and protect. They seem to think that the law is for us and not for them. To bad you didn't let her call go to voice mail so you would have a recording. The phone logs will show her dialing in. Get a lawyer to HANG THIS BITCH HIGH. I had a cop ask me why I carried my concealed weapon all the time. I told him that if I need a cop you won't be there to defend me. So my piece is like my American Express Card I never leave home without it. Ten hollow points in two seconds are worth a thousand words.

I was headed to my sister's place last weekend. When I am by myself I ride close to the centre lane which makes anyone who passes me go completely into the other lane instead of trying to pass me in the same lane. This big Dodge half ton comes up behind me and tailgates for what seemed like a long time and than passes me on my right side using part of my lane and the shoulder throwing rocks and gravel at me. And he is laughing as he goes by. Had he knocked me down I'm sure he would have said OPPS! I didn't mean to do that!

Anyways I was so pissed I hit the gas and passed him doing over 100mph and gave him the dirtiest look I possible could and gave him the bird. I keep the same speed until the next town and never seen him again.

Crawford,

Maybe you should have a little discussion with Len Rhymes about defending yourself! Seriously, going at an unsafe high rate of speed is not a good answer. I have been in similar situation to what you describe, and I must admit, I've done some pretty stupid things at the time also. When someone tailgates me when I'm on my bike, I give them the left open handed "push back" sign to let them know they are following me at an uncomfortably close distance.

I once had someone following me REAL close (<2' off my rear fender), and repeatedly giving the "back off" sign did no good. We transitioned from 4 lanes to 2 lanes, and when he still did not back off, I stopped the bike in the middle of the road, turned it off, climbed off, and proceeded to begin walking towards this guy's car. I was in full leathers, and I'm not a small guy (5'10", 225lbs). I was going to ask him why he felt he had the authority to endanger my life, but he was busy taking flying lessons in the driver's seat! Both hands waving beside his head, evidently encouraging me to go back to my bike, which I did. You know, he didn't tailgate at all after that little exchange!

True, there are some bozos out there, like the one you encountered, where something like I've described will do no good. For those folk, it best to let them pass while you stay focused on staying safe and alive, and if possible, get an accurate description of the vehicle, a good look at the driver, and a license plate number. After all that is complete, find a safe place to pull over, call 911, tell them what happened, which direction, location, etc., and be sure to tell the dispatcher that you felt the driver was endangering your life on purpose. IF the authorities nail the guy, GO TO COURT, and make sure the judge understands what happened, and suggest the idiot be given the maximum penalty.

Idiots like the one you encountered should see Len Rhymes for an attitude adjustment by Mr. Smith and Mr. Wesson!!!

You're right what I did wasn't the smartest move I have ever made. At the time I was so pissed I didn't think it trough, I just had to let the guy know I wasn't a happy camper. But you are right idiots like that are just not worth the time and more importantly one's life.

The best to have done would have been to report the incident to the RCMP at the next town.

On a better note, A cop had pulled over a car so traffic went from 2 lanes to 1 so I eased myself over into the left hand lane with turn single and hand single traffic was going about 10 mph. As soon as I pulled in this guy speeds up and gets right on my tail as we pass the pulled over car and 2 squads. Well I always figure if I am going to get hit by a tailgater I would rather be going slow so I slowed down and continued till I could pull back to the right lane. Once I did this the tailgater came with me honking his horn and telling me I was number 1. Now that traffic had opened back up I slowly brought it back up to the speed limit and he stayed behind me, I was starting to get Pissed when I saw flashing lights coming now I'm thinking what did I do. (I was on my semi custom softtail with 18" apes so sometimes you know they just want to pull you over). Well as he gets closer He tells us both to pull over and as soon as he starts walking forward he starts chewing this guy a new one for endangering my life, needless to say I had a big smile on my face when he finally walks up and asks if I want to press charges. I was reluctant do to missing a day of work the officer said he understood and told me to have a nice day. He then walked back and laid into this guy again I could not thank him enough, its nice to see him protecting the public even us Bikers.

FYI this was in Bartlett Illinois so if you pass thru give the officers a friendly wave they are looking out for us

Indiana RoadRunner,

I know of one place in Texas that would not have worked for an off duty cop. I am sure that the Police Chief that I road with today would not want their officer behaving that way to anyone on a motorcycle. I would not want his wrath if I worked there.

They should at a minimum fire her for endangering you. She should not get a walk on this at all. Fight on IRR!

As a general rule, I give all LEO a freindly wave in hopes they'll remember me under similar circumstances. After talking with a few of the local officers I find many of them ride as well.

Same thing happend to me, guy cut me off and put me in the dirt, next thing I know the cop pulls over the guy and tells me to stop also, I thought this cop who was HUGE was gonna drag this guy out of his car and beat his azzzz. He was screaming at this guy so loud I was dying, then he asked me if I was ok and tells me he is gonna give this guy $1500 in tickets and tow his ride! I thanked him for the help and he told me not to thank him that he and half his station ride bikes and it could him been him on his bike instead of me. Very cool.

Had a similar instasnce in PA. My girlfriend was just learning to ride and was last of three bikes, her choice. A woman decided to tailgate her and I saw it so I slowed down and let my girlfriend pass. The "rhymes with witch" passed me kinda' and cut me off pulling back in to tailgate my girlfriend again. Then about 100 yards down the road pulls into a church parking lot to go to church. I pulled in behind her while my girlfriend and friend went 1/2 mile down the road so there would be no witnesses. I parked behind her and let her have it. I'm 6'2" and wearing black leather, chaps and riding boots and sitting on an Ultra at the time. I doubt she will do that again. I'm pretty millitant about this and will probably get criticized but someone has to send the message and love means never having to say you're sorry. Remember, they are more afraid of us than we are of them because they can't tell a 1 percenter from a hole in the ground.
Like Crawford, I also ride close to the center line and cage rollers do move over.

Twice in two years I've had an Indiana State Trooper in different parts of the state almost hit me. First time was on I-69 and this idiot was so intent on writing a ticket he crossed the median, turned in front of me forcing me to lock my Ducati up at speed missing the SOB by no more than 10 feet. That resulted in a call to his post commander letting him know if it ever happened again, I'd be at the post when the guy got off work.

Second time, was last fall with one of our new Type A motor boys who slung his H-D around on a two lane forcing me to lock the Charger up to avoid hitting him. Both times they were going after speeders.

I've had it with the current crop of cops in the world. The vast majority are ignorant, arrogant, and not smart enough to spell cop with a dictionary.

If you carry a dozen .8125 MM ball bearings in your pocket when you ride, when they get on your arse....empty your pocket on their windshield. Amazing what a few balls of steel will do to a windshield or hood.

I carry marbles in my pocket. Never had anyone follow to close except for the amount of time it took me to get the marble out of my pocket and thumb it over my shoulder. Works great when needed.

Update:

My wife talked to the father of one of the EMT's on the scene of the bike wreck.

Wife (rider) ended up in the grass with a broken leg and bad head injuries. Husband (driver of the bike) ended up on the road.
He was quite angry when the EMT's got there.
he kept demeaning to know "who the hell was that sum-bitch that pulled out in front of me?"

The people in the van that hit them NEVER tried to help the riders or even ask if they were ok. They were only concerned if they could still get the kids to the water park.

Haven't heard anything new about the condition on the Harley riders. However, the EMT's thought they would be ok after they grew some skin back and bones healed.

Oh yeah, they said injuries would have been less if they had "proper" riding clothing and helmets.
