So I get a call tonight from Victory concerning an issue I'm having with my handlebar volume control switch changing my radion stations and I ask him about the seat pictured earlier in this thread. After I described it to him, he knew exactly what I was talking about. He has ridden the bike with tat seat on it. Seems Victory is testing out a couple of different seat designs and we should see something soon. The biggest hurdle to getting a seat like that to market, though, is demand.

It doesn't make sense for Vic to produce an upgraded seat when the current seat is already so comfortable. It's gonna take some phone calls if you want to see a seat with a driver's backrest option. Let your dealers know you're interested and have them call VIc to see if they're working on it!!!

Bike desperately needs a Back rest. Seat is comfortable BUT not as comfortable as everyone raves.
I have 4700 miles and my butt starts getting sore about 100 miles into ride and have to stop by 150......

I have over 500 miles on mine - and love it. The seat is the best stock seat I've ever sat on. True, I haven't gone over 150 miles at one "sitting", but no pain at all! And, I just got my hip replaced late last April.
I too would love a backrest - this getting old thing comes with back laziness! I'm visiting a custom seat guy this weekend to see what he thinks can be done. Let's keep up the chatter so we Vic to offer one. Can't believe that wasn't part of their opening offering.

Utopia products who make the best backrests on the market for many bikes including the Gold Wings has just completed a backrest for the Victory Vision and it looks really sweat. I have ridden many bikes with different backrests and the Utopia is the most comfortable backrest I have ever used. It works with the Vision stock seat and is easy to install and costs only $215.00. They will have some pictures of it posted on their website in a couple of days. www.utpr.com

There are probably over two dozen backrests made for the Gold Wings yet most Gold Wing riders will tell you the Utopia backrest is the best on the market. I’ll bet you won’t see a better backrest option for the Vision in years to come if ever.

Tim- I am currently at about 7K. I have lost 2 weeks riding due to exhaust update(S1L1) VFC III,
Lloydz air diffuser, and Dyno tuning.(courtesy of KevinX) Aluminum Panel color change is in the works(original plan was anodizing black) but aluminum panels are currently being painted super Hi-Gloss Black (courtesy Scott @Conquest Customs). Panel Removal is Major Undertaking-especially front shrouds around Motor(with lighted Victory Logos).
Pix to folllow upon completion.

The Utopia backrest works with the stock seats whether you have the heated seat or not. If you go to this link on their website http://www.utpr.com/installation.html you will see how easy it is to mount the backrest on the seat. The backrest for the Vision will mount very similarly to how it does on the Gold Wing seat which is shown on this webpage.

It will probably be tomorrow of this weekend before they have the pictures up but you can get a real good idea of what it will look like front the other pictures on their site.

I got my seat and the new Utopia backrest back from Bob this afternoon. We had a concern about underseat clearance which turned out to be baseless, the seat mouted fine with more clearance for the bracket than I would have thought just going by measurements and estimates. The backrest looks very good, and more important, very comfortable. I didn't try it out since the bike is up on lift. They should be available for order very quickly now since the prototype is done. I took a couple of photos when the battery in my camera died. As soon as I get it charged up I'll post some photos and send them to Bob for the Utopia website. He was great to do business with and I hope some of you guys will benefit.

Thanks again Mike for all your efforts!! This will benefit many of us including myself greatly. Just think you are the first Vision owner in the world to have a backrest and Utopia is the first company to make a backrest for the Vision.

I got my Utopia Products backrest in last Wednesday and installed it that night. It only took about 20 minutes to install and was easy and straight forward. I have put about 750 miles on it so far and it is really comfortable. This is a no brainer purchase in my opinion.

here's a picture of a backrest that is right behind the rider....

http://www.raptorsandrockets.com/images/Victory/08_Victory_Vision_l...

This appears to be a seat made by Russel Day Long..........I might be wrong, but theirs generally have the same pattern and "cushyness" as pictured.

Here is their website:

How much was the backrest and how do you order it? I assume you have to cut a hole in the existing leather, does that show very much or do they supply something to make it look neater.

The real reasons the Utopia is the most purchased, as well as it's knock offs, is that 1) it doesn't use side rails that interfere with the passenger leg placement, and, 2) It's MUCH LESS expensive than getting a replacement seat with a slide in driver backrest (yeah, many of my fellow Goldwing riders are pretty cheap bastards to boot as well!) such as a Travelcade or Corbin. That said, I have both a stock seat for my Goldwing with a Utopia with the removable option, and a newer low milage Travelcade with driver backrest that is sitting on the shelf (it moved me back but took room away from my SO.) that I am selling once my new Black Tour Premium comes in.

I'll post a picture of the bracket through the seat cover tonight.

The Utopia Backrest is $215.00 and you can order it from Utopia Products. Their website is www.utpr.com and their phone number is on the site. Ask for Bob and tell him Craig Edland sent you.

You have to cut a 1.5" long slit in the leather and they have a boot that goes around this cut that the bracket goes in. It is really clean, easy to install and looks great. This is the most comfortable backrest I have ever sat against. This is the perfect solution for the Vision.

I had Rick Mayer install a Utopia Backrest when he rebuilt my seat for my Burgman 650 (installed it for free). What a great product - well built & so comfortable. No more slouching. http://gallery.mac.com/reg_page#100063/IMG_0794_2&bgcolor=black

It will be the first accessory that will be added to my Vision.

Cheers,
Reg
