First a little background, I have ridden HD for years, traded Dyna Wide Glide for a Jackpot in 06 and my Ultra Classic for a Vision in January. I ride at least one 6,000 mile trip every summer with the same friend. We have always communicated by CB using the external speakers. We both wear ear plugs and find at high speeds with earplugs using the external speakers we get the absolute clearest sound. I have gone through all the usual electronic problems with my Vision, Ipod, volume button changing radio stations, music through one headset speaker, no CB volume through headset, CB transmitting being cut off after 5 seconds, etc. I have had my Victory back to my dealer at least 4 times for electronic fixes with the last one to get the CB to come through the external speakers which Victory put out in writing several months ago as one of the fixes coming with the next update. Finally my dealer who has worked his butt of trying to get the electronics corrected called me Saturday and said that Victory has stated that the CB will never come through the external speakers, you can only listen to it through the headset. In addition if you are listening to radio, ipod, etc. through the external speakers and receive a CB communication it will not mute the external speakers, only if you are listening to the music through the headsets. I only wear the headset for the use of the microphone and prefer to never use the headset speakers. I know for a fact the HD Ultra and Honda Goldwing can get CB through external speakers and have for the last 12 years. Any thoughts on this issue, I love my Vision but am really disappointed with Victory using an electronics system that has caused me nothing but headaches. Also, they are the first to combine the CB and Intercom system into one box, to me just another problem waiting to happen. Most other bikes, the CB and Intercom are two separate boxes.

Bro,

I'm feeling your pain. I have been having the same problem with my vision CB. Although everyone can hear me loudly and clearly. I can only hear them at very low volume. I have taken it back to the dealer, and he is clueless also.

I ride with my club alot, and we use CBs extensifly
I was wondering if I could get some type of amplifier for the CB. What do you think? What have you tried?

You can send me any info you have, via here or vdericwooten@hotmail.com

Thanks,

Big Woo

My CB volume was low compared to all of the rest of the audio inputs (XM, FM, AM, Weather, iPOD).  I had to get a new CB unit with a newer flash on it to get the CB output level up the the same levels as the rest of the audio inputs.

I had to jump through a lot of hoops to get this done.  My dealer didn't know what to do so I had to do the homework myself.  The dealer called Victory and Victory didn't get back to them with anything.  I ended up calling RadioSound directly to find out how to get CB volume up to the same levels as the rest of the system.  Please note the CB needs to be flashed to the proper version in addition to the radio head unit.

Sincerely,

Tim

P.S.

My buddy and I have been working on increasing the bike's ground plane and using a better antenna (Firestik Firefly) to get better CB performance (TX/RX).  These have been physical mods to the bike.  The CB headset volume is a CB flash issue.

With the new flash, I am able to hear the CB fine with Big Honker Pipes at half volume.  Before the CB flash upgrade, I was pegged at 30 and could bearly hear the CB through the headsets.  My wife could not hear the CB at all through her headset until after the CB flash upgrade.

Just a thought.  You maybe able to route the headset speaker audio into the audio input of your GPS or AUX input to get the CB audio out to your external speakers.  If you route it though your GPS audio input, then it may cut out your music the same way that the GPS cuts out your music when it announces route information.

If you study the wiring diagram in the shop manual, you may be able to figure out how to do this.  I have traced the lines, but haven't tried this myself.  Since your driver's headset lines are already run up to the center console, it maybe as simple as tapping 3 lines (ground, left + and right +) and piping them into a stereo mini jack cable that you plug into the side of your GPS.

HTH,

Tim

Update:

I just looked at my bike and wiring diagram (see page 510 of the PDF file).  The harness that hooks up your GPS to the bike has 4 wires (switched hot,  ground, Nav Audio + and Nav Audio -).  Since there are only 2 audio wires, the NAV audio input is mono, not stereo.  Your headset speakers are stereo so you have 2 choices.  You can either take just the left or right signal into the Nav Audio to feed the mono input, or your can combine the headset left and right signals to feed the mono signal.

You will need some 3 rectifier diodes to keep the hots from back-feeding and polluting the other signals.  You will need a diode for the left headset audio and another one for the right headset audio so when you combine the 2 channels, you do not get cross talk in your headset and do not send the mixed signal back to the source unit.  You will need another diode to keep the [combined] audio from your headset from being sent to your GPS.

Since you already have diodes on the left and right headset lines, these will protect your headset from the GPS audio.  Rectifier diodes are about 10 cents each from PartsExpress.com (shipping will be more than the parts).  From the looking at the bike and the wiring diagrams, it looks like a couple of bucks worth of parts (few feet of wire, shink wrap, 3 rectifier diodes and wire connectors) will get you a wiring harness that will pipe audio from your headset speaker lines into the Nav audio input harness of the GPS.

You will need to set your head unit to enable external speakers and disable the entertainment mode so no music goes to your headset.  You now only want the CB audio to go to your headset so it will be a mono-pass-through to NAV input (you don't want to muck up your music by converting it to a mono signal and repiping it though this new circuit).

The next question is the headset speaker audio sufficient to drive and not overdrive the NAV audio input?  More homework is needed to safely answer this question.  If the input levels are ok, then you should be able send the CB audio out through your external speakers the same way the GPS uses the external speakers by muting the musing when either you recieve a CB RX or a GPS audio instruction.

HTH,

Tim
