Not sure if everybody already knew this or not. I just got my iPhone 3G today and when I plug it in it says this accessory (meaning the Vision) is not an authorized accessory and as such will not be charged. Well, I figured I could at least play music. Well, that didn't work either. So, I navigated to the iPod menu on the iPhone 3G and it showed "Accessory Attached" and didn't allow music to play.

So, in a nutshell, don't buy the iPhone 3G for the sole purpose of it working on your bike. If somebody else has it working, please let me know what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks!

I sold my iPod with the anticipation of using the iPhone too. I even asked if was flash memory to make sure I didn't have the hard drive issues that others posted. But alas, it is not fully compatible. I was, however, able to play it through the system, but it does not charge. Not sure if or what to do about it, if it is the cable or the system that is incompatible (I suspect the unit). I also have an 2008 Scion that has built in iPod hookup and it doesn't support the iPhone either - very strange that you'd engineer a product in 2008 that doesn't support a 2007 iPod technology.

Fergy,

I too stepped off and got the new 3G. Mine plays music fine and displays properly on the console but as you have seen, it doesn't charge.
I was hoping for both but I'll charge when I need to off of the accessory plug.
Did you put the phone into "Airplane" mode before connecting it? I got that tip from another post here or on the VMC.

oh, and my solution? I used a 2 1/2 year old Nano - it holds plenty of songs and fits nicely in the glove box, and I don't care if it gets banged up, scratched, or whatever...

I have the nanno 4G silver and it worked fine until the bar control died. Still works you just can't navigate the songs on the go. I'd see if your dealer has a spare Ipod lead you can try before chalking it up to the Ipod since the only difference I am aware of between the nanno 2, 3, 4G pods is the memory. My first cable failed almost immediately. Just a thought

Well, I've been using a 32G iTouch iPod for the Vision. It charges and integrates well with the Vision. I was hoping to give it to my wife-unit and use my iPhone 3G instead. Now, I guess I'll keep the iTouch where it is and just throw the iPhone in the trunk to charge while riding. Oh well... So far, though, I really like the iPhone 3G.
