it's hard to follow up on all the stuff related to the exhaust pop so I throught I throw another into the mix. As most of you know I am on a rant to narrow down and eliminate the pop. I've lived with mine from almost day one even when nobody would acknowledged that it happens, now it is the main topic of discussion for the '08 and I think the '09's. While many have said that it is the EFI stuff because of the EPA, there's always something in mind that says otherwise. I'm not ready to eat crow yet, but here's preliminary report.

When I pulled my exhaust I had evidence of three distinct leaks. Both the exhaust ports and at the left cross over junction. The ends of my pipes were flawed looking with small traces of casting in perfections that seem to prevent a complete seal. I save all the rant about that for later. I took emerory cloth on both surfaces and cleaned them down smooth and cleaned up the carbon build up on engine port. The left side cross-over clamp was digging into the slip slot and had bent it requiring straighting to get a good seal.

Previously I reported that when I tightened the exhaust ports it ran better, actually the best since I had it after the reflash. Though it did run better, it did not run the best and I can tell the difference after about 300 miles yesterday. It truly runs the best that it ever has, I just don't understand even when it was crappy, it ran better, so now better is the best.

I've elimnated the exhaust leaks that I suspected I had and this bike runs more consistantly now and I now know for certain what the decel pop is. I had it pop a few times on decel but all the noise and chatter for the exhaust leak is gone and I can focus on the real popping, if that makes sense.

My next step is since the bike was not performing perfectly (?) when I had the last reflash, is to have the reflash done again and see if there is any improvements.

Since I didn't have time to mess with the intake when I did the pipes I want to check for a possible leak in that area as well.

I'll continue to provide up dates on my situation in hopes it may benefit others.

varyder, you said your going to have the reflash done again. My question to you is do you think or know the dealer will do this free of charge or will they charge you. I'm curious, as I got the feeling earlier this year that the reflash recall on my bike was not done. So I went to another dealer and they refused to do the reflash because warranty records showed it was already completed.

the stock should be free of charge from Victory to the dealer, that is the only one that is. The others cost, so I hope they'll be generous enough to do it being it only takes 15 minutes tops to hookup and complete. I just don't know if it is relavent toward other conditions or if it a blanket flash that is done regardless of other conditions the bike may be doing.

I to have the occasional pop. mine is a decel lean pop between shifts. Although not all the time its still very annoying. Until the 08 vics the dealers could adjust TPS settings. A hair richer mixture and there was no more pop on the 07s. Victory allows no adj 0n 08 and up. I here that when an after market controller is installed the problem goes away. I just hate to give in to paying $275.00 for what use to be a simple adjust. I hear the aftermarket boxes do away with the lean decel command and run overall a hair richer. I remapped, as have others, it does not make a difference. Its Vics EPA settings that are to lean for many conditions we encounter.

Sorry I didn't see this earlier, but please read my thread and see what your mechanic can do.

honestly, after two days of JUST the decel pop, I'm happy at the moment. I do hope they will remap for the fun of it to see what happens. I'm also going to start on my first letter to Victory concerning my imperfections on the exhaust causing the leaks. I'm sending pictures as well.

Okay, I don't know how I ended up posting this here, but think I'm crazy. Thanks for the info SB, I hope to hear some reaction from out resident wrenches to see what they think.
