Subject: Power Outlets

I had asked my dealer to install a power plug on my new bike. It ended up that there is one in the glove box, one on my center panel and one on the passenger arm rest. They are all the same. I tried to plug my radar detector to see if/how it would work. When I tried to plug it in I noticed that the outlet was too small for the outler. As I have never had power outlets on a bike before I did not realize that they are a different size than is in a car. Or did the dealer install the wrong outlets (cb/comms outlet)?

If they are the correct outlets, can these be adapted to have an outlet that is the same size a vehicle outlet?

Thanks

There is an adapter for the power outlet (The adapter part numbers is 2858092) and there should be a 1 in the glove box and 1 in the trunk (just below the trunk's latch).

The 2 that are on the the console and arm rest; I'm sure that they are the cb/intercomm outlets.

The Vision has "BMW style" outlets which are more secure than regular cigarette lighter plugs. These guys carry everything you need.

You can also get an adaptor through your dealer or on Ebay.

Also, do a search for "powerlet" and look at the posts about that - you are not the first to ask the question. There are several answers and several problems you can find out about in these previous posts. Also, the one in the glove box and on the panel are switched with the ignition. The ones in the trunk, and I think on the armrest, are hot, i.e. always on (I have a Street so look in the search results to confirm that.)

If you hate waiting for things like me, just stop by a dealer that sells BMWs. The shoud a have a variety to choose from, such as single, double, plug only, ect.

I have to say that your dealer should be kicked square in the privates by a mule. He should have been responsible enough to ask if you needed the plug adapter. Even at our dealership, we try to keep one on hand. Something so simple that many people dont realize is diffferent on only a few bikes. It is a better quality plug desinged to handle the higher amp draw of heated clothing with out causing a hot spot in the plug area. Glad you got the new Vision and things of course will be better when you get the adapter.

I have a tour premium with the powerlets in the glove box and trunk and recently added the extra 2 myself. One goes on the center console right by where the cb jack would go and the other one goes on the right armrest (cb jack and controls go on left side). I came to the Vision from the BMW world, so I already had a "powerlet to car" adapter to charge things with. If the jacks your dealer installed are on the right side of the console (barely off center, really) and the right armrest, they should be power outlets, not cb.
