Thinking seriously about making the plunge but man do I have questions....

(Miles and/or JAM I know one of you said there would be a tech posting soon - but I think I'll end up with something before the wife and I go on the next trip)

I think my only requirement is intercom - all other capabilities I can make trades-offs depending on what there is......

Second priority would be Class I capability to allow bike to bike

And of course sound quality and volume range are important as well as overall quality (product, support, options like a 12V charger, stuff like that)

Other stuff - What does anyone know about:

Class I - distance supported (have heard upto 500M)

Battery life - StandyBy vs Talk vs Class I, II, III vs A2DP and what does battery life *really* mean

Stereo (A2DP) would be nice but I am doing fine with the J&M speakers (a nice simple amp upgrade would be great - oh wait that's another thread) - does A2DP really work? Do the A2DP adaptors for iPods work?

Easy phone connection - but I can live fine with my Zumo showing me the incomming caller id and stopping if I need to call them back

What other capabilities exist or are important? If you have a set why that set? What do you like or dislike?

What have I not even thought of.....

Thanks in advance for any help!

P.S. if it's nice out where you are you don't need to respond until after your ride!

Savannah, GA -Year round riding!! Yay!
As I type this, hubby, son and I are in a hotel in Charlotte, NC. We rode our bikes to visit family in VA and are stopping off. I had a set of the Scala Teamset headsets. Great for rider passenger, but seriously lacking for bike to bike (about 60 foot range, maybe 5 car lengths). Hubby & I each got a Scala Q2 headset before this ride. They rock!! We linked up, and put the 'driver' headset from the Teamset on my son (he's 11), since he'd always be on the bike with me. The VOX operation is preferable to the PTT on the intercom, for me. Range on the Q2's is good. We got split up once when our GPS's were telling us to turn, and hubby misinterpreted the turn. We got about a stoplight away from each other (probably about 1/4 mile), and just started to get scratchy. Somehow, me & my son's headset's got unpaired today (I don't know who hit a wrong button on which headset). The volume was good on the headset's, not great. I could hear ok, as long as I kept my stereo on about 9 (I usually listen to it at 11). I didn't pair it with my phone.
When we rode up to VA, hubby's battery died about 7 hours into it (he is the chatty one, tho'... ) Mine and my son's was fine the whole way.

Thanks Trixie for the report on the Q2, I was thinking about getting a dual set up for wife and I. You lost me on the VOX and PTT, I'm old school, I need to know where the crank is located. Have a safe trip. "Giddy-up"

GGT it seems all bluetooth, though some is better than other has a teaming problem. I got my wife a bluetooth GPS and she has to get them to acknowledge one another and turn off her ear thingy first. Thanks for the report on the Q2's, I've used CB in the car to bike when traveling and since my wife doesn't like anything mounted like that I got her a handheld. It had about a mile or so range though.

BTW, where you all in Lynchburg? I rode up Saturday to Crimora which in the valley close to Stauton. Then rode to Baltimore for a bowl of soup on Monday with the wife.

Thanks! From reading on the web it still looks like we are a while away from a 'all options supported' bluetooth headset.

Sounds like the Q2s work well for you - I was leaning toward either those or the Blueant (I think they are actually the Cell Link units with an 'American' name)...

Does any one have any experience with the blueant's - I think I saw a write up in the review section and will check that - but any followup info?

Thanks!

My brother & I use our Blueants all the time when we ride together (bought last Summer off e-bay). We have them paired to each other & to our cell phones. Vox and voice clarity is superior to my more expensive Super Autocomm system (which I'm going to sell soon).

Range is excellent for a bluetooth device.

My only beefs are that I wish it came with dual earphones, & that you could pair with a third or fourth device (ie. passenger or more than one rider), otherwise highly recommended.

Aww, Tex, you know what I'm talking about, you're more modern than you think!

VOX- voice activated

PTT= Push To Talk The Scala Teamset is great if you are going to be on the same bike. They come paired, from the factory. Don't have to worry about relinking them. But, if y'all are on separate bikes, the Q2 has a much better range. Hubby and I pushed it on the way home and got >.4 miles away from each other before we lost each other.

Yep, we went to Lynchburg Tues-Thurs., then Charlotte, got home today. Crimora is beautiful country.  The whole Valley is GAW-JUS!!

Man, I miss the mountains. My Vivi had her cherry busted to them this week. First time she's ever experienced "uphill"....
