OK, I have read everything I can find on the forum about the PC V with the Auto Tune and I think I'm ready to pull the trigger on it but I still have a few questions. (I have asked some of these via PM's or emails but I want to ping the whole group before I lay out that kind of money)

My bike is an 08 that has 10K miles, atom bomb mufflers and a Lloydz IAC valve (works great !)

1) I ride for pleasure - 2 up 50% of the time. I'm not an IB so is this a mod that I will appreciate for the amount of money spent ?

2) I wanted to do the cams (and probably will when Kevin gets his butt out to SoCal), is this the best mod I can do short of cams?

3) Am I going to have to keep adjusting it all the time or is it a set it and forget it system after getting it dialed in ?

4) I plan on doing the install myself. I'm very mechanical and I have read the instructions - is this a hard install in reality ? Do you have to remove the side covers ?

5) My bike runs great. what exactly is this mod going to do that I will feel on a daily basis ?

6) Should I pass on this and go with another type of mod ? ECM chip, VFC III, ??

7) They now have an AT-300 - has anyone heard of it ? It is apparently a non Harley version of the AT-100.

Thanks !

Tom

Hi Tom,
Here is my experience and opinion:

1. If you are currently satisfied with how your bike is running I'm not sure you're going to be able to tell the difference with the PCV with Autotune installed depending on how perceptive you are. I also installed mine before doing the cams and I felt it did help by allowing the engine to run smoother and a bit stronger in the mid-range but nothing world shaking.
2. The cams make a tremendous difference in the way the engine runs. At the time you install the cams would be an ideal opportunity to install the PCV with Autotune. At that point it will definitely make a difference.
3. Once it is installed with the correct AFR table you will need to attach your laptop a few times to accept the trims. Its just a matter of clicking a couple of buttons. Once the maps have been trimmed you won't have to mess with it again unless you change your accessories at which time the Autotune will start tuning again and you'll have to accept the trims again. You can also set the PCV to accept a wider range of trims which will reduce the number of times you have to accept them but that isn't necessarily the safest thing to do.
4. Installing the PCV with Autotune is quite easy. The only SOB is getting the fuel injector caps off. Just takes a bit of patience and a couple of pointy tools. Yes, the side covers will need to come off which takes 1 minute.
5. see 1.
6. No opinion.
7. The At-300 is the same as the Harley unit accept they removed the Harley power plug and supplied an alternative means of splicing into power and ground. They have also redesigned Autotune so it now consists of one box instead of two as it was before. Makes it easier to locate and hook up.

If I can help more just let me know.

Marc

I read you don't find much of improvement for $369???
But I have read that if you put on exhaust and the 2 air cleaners it helps with the popping and yes makes it smoother.
So then it would be worth it?????

Yes, it helps with the popping and yes, it makes it smoother. Its just a matter of cost vs benefit. In my case I thought it was worth it but someone else who isn't as particular might not think so. If you put cams in or change something radical enough to require the mixture to change beyond what the stock narrow band O2 sensors can adjust for then its very much worth it. What I particularly like is the fact that it is a closed loop system and constantly adjusts vs a scenario which requires it to run open loop in which case the mapping is permanent and no further adjustments are made other than what can be done manually to the tables. In Tom, the OP's, situation he says his bike runs great so for him I don't see where its going to make that much of a difference. Of course all of this is just my opinion. No value other than that

I agree. If you aren't very observant of this type of thing. You won't tell a difference. But it does run smoother. I had a ness tuner on my bike that came with the honkers. It ran fine, still popped occassionally, but didn't bother me. I added the PCV w/ auto tune because of the future engine mods I will be doing. It makes it pretty easy to remap. Then autotune fine tunes it.

I though some one said if you use the Ness tune you should un plug the 02's.
