I got a new seat for my Vision since the 2008 seat was showing a lot of wear. The new one was a 2011 model with the new style seat pan and pre-built slot for a backrest.

I already had a Utopia Backrest on the old one and wondered if Utopia would sell me a bracket for the new seat that would work on the old backrest since it was in great shape. After an email to Utopia the answer was yes, as long as I was already an owner of the backrest. I said that was easy to prove....my video of the install was on his web site!

http://www.utpr.com/vision2010.html

My new bracket came in and I installed it. It was super easy. No cutting. Just install and bolt in place....

Watch the video below. I shot this one in HD so you can see the back of my head in 720p! Sorry about that visual.

Bob from Utopia is going to use the new video on his site. I told him it was an honor to be featured. I put 271 miles on the new seat and backrest last Sunday. They make quite a pair.

Nice job as always!

Off topic, what do you use for your videos? Camera, software, etc?

I used a Sony CX Model HD Camera. It takes great videos. I have used my iPhone 4 with mixed results. The iPhone 4 works better in full sunlight and held very still.

When I am done shooting the video, I use Koyote Soft Free HD Convertor to make the sony format .m2ts file an avi file. The settings I use are:
Preset: MPG2 HD
Format: AVI
Size: 1280x720 16/9
Fps: 25
Video Bitrate: 9000 KBps
Audio Bitrate: 256

http://www.koyotesoft.com/video-software/free-hd-converter.html

After that, the Microsoft Movie Maker software will import the file and I can edit it there till I am somewhat happy.

When done, I publish to the PC in 720p format.

Finally, I upload the video file to YouTube.com and let the world see my stupidity in glorious high definition.

The Video Camera is a three year old HDR-CX12. No hard drive - Memory Stick Duo only for memory.

I am a Systems Administrator. I hate hard drives since they all will fail at the worst times.

Thanks Teach!

That is exactly what I wanted to know. I know what you mean about HDs. I am an admin/tech as well!

Great Video
After seeing the 2008 and the 2010 seat side by side I now know why I'm not as comfortable on my 2011 as I was on my 08.

While I'm in Daytona I will look into getting some of the padding removed from my seat.

Paul,

At 48K miles, the seam on my 2008 heated OEM seat is now also splitting - on the driver side exactly where yours showed to be the worst. I also have the Utopia backrest (and love it). Per the Polaris master parts list (MPL), the original 08-09 heated Vision seat was Vic Part# 2683804. Based on on-line parts house info (e.g., surdyke), it appears that this has been superceded by Vic Part# 2684352 (retails for $720). Per the MPL, this is the factory heated seat for 10-12 Visions. When doing searches (e.g., eBay), I also find Vic Part# 2878053 (retails for $600). In fact, the on-line Victory Accessories catalog shows only this latter one as the only heated seat for all year model Visions. Both of these are heated seats, but obviously there is some difference between them; do you know what that might be? Which seat did you get to replace your original one? What is the cost of the different bracket for the new seat? I am concerned that the seat pan for 2684352 might be different than 2878053. Also, I cannot tell if both of these seats are factory pre-cut with a backrest slot. I like what I currently have (other than for the seam that is splitting), and am thus trying to get a close match.

charbin,

I am sorry but I do not have the part number for the seat any more. Call up Utopia and Bob will quote you a price...I think it is on his web site some where. The part is very reasonably priced.....but I do not want to mess up and quote the wrong price.

The new seat was not cheap but I wanted a second seat. I am recovering the old seat in red velvet for Santa to use.
