East TN | I had a "custom" KevinX air breather that he made in his garage when he did my cams 2 years ago. As the right one was never shipped with the cams and stuff...
Anyway, I was doing some work (swapping out iPod cables) and found that the "custom" air filter under the console had fallen apart. I ordered a new Lloydz air filter and went to install it this afternoon....When I ordered it i asked the "stupid question" does it go up or does it sit recessed in the air box.....So when I got everything taken apart and ready to go, I tried to install it based on the way Dan told me at Lloydz. With the air filter sticking UP.....
Here's the STUPID QUESTION: Does it really get installed UP with the Lloydz name up towards the console???
Here are a couple of pictures of the ONLY way I could get it installed due to the bracket in the picture holding what looks like some type of relay...There is no way that I can see or figure out a way to get the air filter to fit with the relay and bracket in the way...Even removing the relay it wouldn't work cause of the shape of the bracket!!

Georgia | Looks like you filled the bottom with some kind of Oil.....so the typical question is, what kind of oil do you use in your intake?  |

This is NOT an OIL thread!!! But it would be Mobil1....It's the ONLY oil to use in the air box!!! LOL Thanks for confirming it's right...When I ordered it I asked Dan and he said it would sit up with Lloydz logo showing, just like the picture on Llloydz web site...So I thought I had a problem when it wouldn't go the way he said it should!

San Clemente | I installed one a while ago and I just assumed it would go the way you installed it. But now hearing the direction you got it may make sense as the filter would take some valuable air box volume. I'm going to call them today. |

Camas Washington | Ordered mine and it is being delivered today. Always thought the only way it would fit is by recessing it into the hole. Having the filter sticking upward does not allow any room under the radio, am I correct here? |

Phenix City AL. | Look at the vicshop by 101ci and he has a pic of it installed, goes down into the box, or look up the install guide for the filter on lloydz web site. |

| I just called Ness and asked them and the tech said it goes with the filter element inside the frame. Its basically the same setup as Lloydz and that's how I mounted mine. Could we have all done it wrong? I just don't see how it would fit but then again, I haven't tried it. Maybe Lloydz is different enough that it would fit???

East TN | There is NO WAY it would fit on my '09 with the filter UP!!! See the first picture...The bracket and the relay (??) are in the way...I took the bracket apart from the relay and even without the relay housing the bracket impedes the filter chassis from sitting aligned with the holes for the screws...
So NO it won't fit with it UP!!!! |

He (Lloydz) includes an install sheet for the air filter, but there is no statement on which way the filter goes in...I tried to call them yesterday but they were closed when I called 5:08 PM EST That's why I posted it here asking what I thought was a STUPID question...

| No way that filter can be installed up and it will only fit in the frame 1 way for the bolt holes to align. |

Use air filter oil from K&N No I don't but when the vendor says it goes a certain way, you follow what the "expert" says to do...Even though in the real world it doesn't it...When that occurs you turn to the internet where people help each other on forums such as this one.

Yes mikev, under the center console there is a cover plate over an opening in the intake manifold (the bike's cast frame, really) on a stock bike. Lloydz determined that shape of this intake manifold really adds turbulence to the air going to the throttle body, and that on performance motors the bike runs out of air at higher rpms. So he designed an additional intake filter to replace the cover plate. It has the benefit of adding more air for increased HP at higher rpms as well as smoothing out air flow to the throttle body. Initially his design was a foam filter sandwiched between 2 flat frames. His latest design is what we are talking about (and pictured above) here. The new filter is similar to a K&N filter in design. It never needs replacing. Just clean it with special oil and put it back in. I doubt it needs to be cleaned very often unless you run in very dusty or rainy locales.
