Orlando, FL | After a complete review of the possible tires for the Vision (Dunlop, Avon, Metzler) I placed a set of Avon Cobras on my bike yesterday. And all I can say is...... OMG~ What an incredible difference. My vision now rides on a rail, drops sweetly into corners and is rock solid like never before. Yes, I know all the load differences etc. But I will never put Dunlop E3's on my Vision again!

| I just had to do the rear on mine and couldn't find ANYTHING that had the same or higher load rating as the Dunlop E3. If I remember correctly the Avon is in the 70 load range how does this feel riding 2up I did not want to take the chance with 2up and sometimes towing a trailer that is a load.

East TN | I just did the same thing...New Avons front an drear...They have a load rating of 74H which is just 90 lbs if I remember correctly compared to the E3's...I agree 1000% My Vision has never felt so solid, easy to roll through corners, and has never felt so glued to the asphalt before....My Vision will have nothing but Avons from here on out!!! |

| I'm on my third set of Cobras on my Vision and have nothing but "good" to say about them. I ride two-up 75% of the time and consider myself an aggressive rider in the twistys. I wore out two sets on my '01 Royal Star Venture and loved them on that bike too.

New Orleans, La, | IMO Avon Cobras are the sh#t for the Vision or any other large touring bike bar none. I think they are the best rain Tyre ever made. I'm riding on Conti Motions now and the compound seems a bit hard and slippery to me but they do seem to be wearing slower than the other tyres I've used. The Cobras gave me 11K but I put a 70 series on the rear and I strongly advise everyone that reads this never try it on a Vision, you'll be sorry you did. JMHO. |

Austin Texas Yaaaalll | I put the Metz 880's on my Vision after my stock set of E 3's wore out. Had the same revelation as you. Never will I put Dunlops back on the red beast again. |

| Sure would like to find a comparison between the new Cobra's and NEW E3's! The only reviews I ever see are between old worn out E3's and new Cobra's, and of course, the new tire will win that comparo every time.

Orlando, FL | Yes, Turk, of course there is always the new tire difference. I took that into account when I made my initial comments. My vision never felt this solid when I had new Dunlops on my bike. My Vision never dropped into the turns so sweetly with the new Dunlop. And it never felt like it was on rails with the new Dunlop. Try a set and you'll see. I had a similar experience on my previous rides going from OEM dunlops to Metzlers. The difference will surprise you. |

No offense, but the only way to do a fair comparison is side by side, both on brand new tires of differing brands. Again, comparing a tire that was new 10k-15k miles ago, and "remembering" how that felt, compared to any brand new tire... well... that's more subject recall than anything. I can guarantee that once those Avons wear out, if you were to put brand new E3's on, you would swear they must have improved them, as they would be so much better than old worn Avons with 15k miles. Again, I'm not saying the Avons aren't good, or even better in feel or adhesion, I'm saying it's not an objective comparison.
Every time someone posts about putting brand new tires on of a different brand, they swear it's such a better tire! Well, they can't all be better than the others.... The only common theme among the different brands is going from an old worn tire to a brand new tire.
I'm glad you are pleased with the Avons. I have used them on previous bikes.. they are no doubt good tires. But I got 16.5k miles from my last set of E3's, and never felt they were lacking.. and I tend to hit the curves fast and hard. As good as that last set of E3's were, these new E3's are noticeably better!

And of course, any side by side comparision would have to be done in some mechanical fashion, in a complete vacuum, utilizing only machines and computers to remove all human emotion, bias, and subjectivity. Only in that manner could a true comparision be considered completely accuate and without bias of any sort.
That said................

Load ratings: 80 is 992 & 74 is 827-a difference of 165 lbs. I love Avon Venoms on my 99' V92C. I just put a new E3 on the front of my vision, maybe I''ll have more options to explore after I use it up this summer-for now I'm fine with the Made In The USA Dunlops filled with DynaBeads-I had very bad experiences with several Metzler tires and lost my faith in that brand-it's a very subjective subject-Brian |

Jal NM | I have never had a problem with th E3's and tar snakes. My bike has always been solid as a rock down the highway at any speed with the OEM E3s.

Durango, Colorado | I too just put a set of Avon Cobras on my vis. So far I like them just fine, particularly the cost over the E3's. Seldom ride two-up and tour fairly light so weight not much of an issue. + they are a recommended stock replacement for the GL1800 so I figured WTH I'll give em a try. Tar Snacks still out of season here, but are a local delicasy in the Fall. However castration season has just started so the Rocky Mountain Oysters are just hittin', not quite as chewy but much less tasty than the Tar Snacks. Sorry John, had to get mine in too! Oh and the cobras have little Tar Snacks molded into the side walls so if you get a little peckish on the trail you're set! ( There I go again ) deplorable! paulhu

I haven't taken a MSF course in 2 years.
Tommorrow I'll be with a group of 20 for an all day advanced rider safety course provided by our local police department. Free of charge and funded by the good ole USA gov't grant monies. I shall find out exactly which tire we all shall run in the future!! |

Dayton, OH | I too just installed a set of Cobras on my Beast. Can't wait to get her out to form an opinion. Never had a problem with the E3s but love trying out new and different stuff.
Personally I prefer getting my instruction and practice during track days with the ZX12R where pucker factor is quite high. |
