I noticed about 2k mi ago that my left mirror was nearly unusable at all speeds due to vibration. It shakes so much that all I see out of is blur. I can see headlight in it and thats about all I can make out. It's consistent with the engine RPM. I thought maybe it was loose but when I reached up to feel it I noticed that there is considerable vibration on the left side vice the right. It's very noticable. Is this normal? Anyone else notice this? My right side is totally clear on the highway. The drive is on the right side, so that doesn't really explain it. The Engine mount integrated with the frame.

Most likely you have some loose connections. There are two screws that attach the mirror to the bike. then three more that attach the cover for the speaker grill and a few clips. This could cause the mirror to shake. The link below, will take you to a folder i share. The file 2008_Vision.PDf is the service manual. http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=07fff18097bbb6d2ab1eab3e9fa335ca...

David....Thank you very much for the link to the service manual. I already have a paper manual but it didn't come with the CD. Now I can have the best of both worlds and I really appreciate your help in making it available.

Just a suggestion....Looks like you have some very helpful info in your share file. Perhaps you could post a message with the link to your share folder in the Tech Reference setcion so it won't get buried in the main section.

Thank you dwhite. I was suspecting a loose mirror. I thought maybe I had replaced the left side loosely. (When I upgraded the speakers to J&M) I'll check the clips again tomorrow. I'm certain that I tightened the screws well when I replaced the right side panel but I will definetly check again when I get back home (or maybe sooner). I really am feeling a lot more vibration along the top of the left of the bike. Maybe this is a sympton of the left dash being loose, harmonics and all.
Thanks again,
-Will

I have the same issue with the mirrors. I have tightened the mirrors and still no cure. The vibration on the fairing is high, this is what is causing the mirror issue. While going down the road, putting my hand on the left side of the fairing there is way too much vibration. I will be checking into this as I know my dealer can't fix it, they can't even change the oil correctly.

I have the same problem. It was there since day one and I have unfortunately learned to live with it.
I know it is a bike vibration problem and NOT a mirror issue since I have NOT had the front or top end apart at all and already checked the mirrors to see if they (mostly the left) were tight.

I hope they do something about it.

Anyone thinking about an 09?

I had a buzzing vibration, pretty loud, in my left rear view mirror some time ago. I mentioned it to the dealer at 500 mi. service and he had the wrench remove and reinstall the mirror making sure the fasteners were all properly tightened. It actually was worse as I was leaving the dealership. I turned around and went back, and they removed a mirror from a new Vision that they had just uncrated and replaced my defective one with it. No problem since. The point being that the problem may be inherent in the structure of the mirror itself and no amount of adjusting or tightening will cure the problem. It should be replaced, and I hope, under warranty.

Hmm...inherent problems mean that it SHOULD be and for me WILL be replaced under warranty. I will ask them to look at it during my next service in about 2 weeks.

Thanks for the heads up!

I have had mirror vibration from the very beginning of owning the VV. With 21K miles on it now, I have finally tried (and I have tried them all) a solution that fixes the problem. Pipe cleaners. Yes, pipe cleaners do the trick. I went to a craft store and picked up two packages of black "Chenille Stems." I believe this is the name of them but these are bulkier than normal pipe cleaners. The threads are about twice as long as normal pipe cleaners. I took two stems at a time, connected them end to end, then slide them behind the mirror and wound them around from behind, stuffing the ends in and behind so you cannot see them. I did this several times until I ran out of space behind the mirrors. I did this on both sides and the problem was fixed.

The theory is the Chenille Stems fill in the space between the mirror and the frame and provide just enough outward pressure to steady the vibration. It is the equivalent of touching (very lightly) the edge of the mirror when vibrating which also stops the vibration until you remove your finger. The pipe cleaners just providing the same type of pressure from behind. You cannot see the pipe cleaners because they are black and they fit behind the mirrors. You dont have to take the mirrors off to do this. The metal wire spine of the pipe cleaners holds the pipe cleaners in place so they dont work their way out from behind. They are also flexible enough to allow you to continue adjusting your mirror...to a point...but still some minor adjustments are possible.

This is a low tech solution to a very frustrating problem...but it works. On the highways when you need the mirrors most for passing, the view is clear now.

The mirrors need to be tightened a little. There is a bolt behind the mirror that gives it some tension to allow adjustment. I tightened mine slightly and that took care of the vibration. Once the access panel is off it is much easier to see.

Had similar issues... I have packed around behind with a bit of soft packing rubber foam - I pushed it in from the top and inside until it was firm and not visible. My mirrors are rock steady now where before I had issues seeing anything ( mind you , at this stage, deaf and blind are words used in my company - well, at least I was told that they were..)

I went with the tire weights as suggested in this thread http://www.vision-riders.com/bb/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=4482&pos... and it made a dramatic improvement !!!

I have not had any problem with vibration in my mirrors. I can always see clearly through them at any speed. The left is equally as clear as the right. The tension bolts were very tight from the factory. I had to loosen mine a bit to be able to adjust the mirrors. Still no vibration problem.

I also used the tire weights and now very little to no vibration in the mirror.

I like the idea of putting the mirrors back on the bars and using the faring mirror pockets for larger speakers or storage, put a little storage door on the opening. I've never had good mirror performance, one of the few problems. When I had the shop install the new few pump a month ago they had to remove that right mirror, man did they screw it up, you could actually see it flopping going down the road. I've got stuff stuffed behind mine, don't ask what it is...

Another problem that has been abserved with vibrating mirrors, cracks are found on the back side of the mirror mounts on the"08's I seen.
This problem may not be widely known. The use of wheel weight can be a temporary fix, but will only increase the chances of further cracking fro the additional weight.

I have a new mirror on order. I tried the wheel weights with no luck. An interesting point on mine is that my mirror can be twisted slightly by grabbing the edges of the mirror with little force. There is a screw behind the mirror glass that appears to need tightened. $50 for a new mirror and I am hoping to be good to go.

I hope I don't get to see all the problems you have here. Bought my 2008 Premiuim Vision last August. Was 6K off. New in the crate and I got the 5 year Extended Warranty at no charge. I have 5000 Kilometers on now and the mirrors are fine. I have noticed they are tight to move around, I use two hands for this usually. When I took them apart to upgrade the speakers, I noticed a lock nut for tightening the pivot ability of the mirrors. I left this alone. If I see the vibration I will try this first...

For $10 I wired in some led's to work with the turn signals, also took care of the vibration in the left mirror.

I was getting a little routine maintenance done on the Dodge a couple of months ago and asked the mechanic for some wheel weights on a whim, I put them away in the tool box against the day I might need them.

The last couple of weeks I have been noticing that the left mirror was vibrating and making life interesting, especially at night. Last night I jumped in and tried the "whinecooler wheel weight method".

I have to go back and beg some more weights, because now that know what a rock steady mirror looks like, I have to do the right one too.

Very cool fix!

Does anyone know if you install the chrome trim on the mirrors would have the same effect as adding the wheel weights?

The trim make no difference in vibration....but now the sun behind you blinds you.
