US | I took my new Vision in for the 500 mile service the service guy told me the price was 320 dollars that is insane what are you guys paying.

Sugar Land, TX (Outside of Houston) | $150.00 - It basically is a Glorified Oil Change and tightening some bolts. The Oil Kit is about $65.00 if you want to do it yourself. Just keep all your receipts to prove your maintenance schedule if you ever need warranty work.

US | Unfortunately I am having stalling issues so I had to leave the bike there I told the guy that was insane what they were charging I will never go there again.

| Did you do a search of here and THEVMC? Several owners have come in at that price range for the first service. If the dealer does everything on the checklist it should be about that price at my 2 local dealers. If they did a "Glorified Oil Change and tightening some bolts" as the guy above I would say it's a too high.
What does the shop charge by the hour for labor? What does the labor hour book say for this service? Have you called another shop and asked what they charge?
Maintenance costs should be figured in anytime a new purchase is being considered before the purchase. It was $35 for my 500 mile checkup for my '03 CC now that same shop charges around $300. The "old" mech only wrote down what he found needing adjustment and the time it took, the "new" mech writes down book labor. |

US | Did not check the VMC for posts of first service. labor rate 65.50 per 1/2 hour the dealer says the oil kit is around 70 bucks it is my understanding from reading the owners manual the bike takes 4.5 qts with filter at oil change and the kit comes with 6qts as well as the filter and gaskets I will make sure I get the unused oil. I am aware of maintenance costs my last 3 bikes have been H-D's Harley did not hit you hard till the 10K service that was 500.00 the 1K and 5K were 180.00. The service writer kept telling me they had to remove lots of plastic panels I said like what, he could not answer and then could not find the VIN so I showed him how to pop off the plastic cover over the VIN. I am new to Victory but spent a little time recently with the "Owners Manual" Its all good I guess.

US | Also I did check with the other local dealer he was 225.00 but he could not get to me for at least 2 weeks, he only has one mechanic for Victory. I am in Jacksonville Florida, plus this week is Biketoberfest.

Ruskin, Fl | My first service included L1/S1 upgrade with gatlin tips, but I seem to remember the 500 service part of the invoice was around $300. I have been doing my own oil changes ever since. It takes me 10 minutes to change and it's a 30-40 minute ride to the dealer, so it's not just the cost factor. |

ness fan - There are several threads on this subject here somewhere, but the long and short of it is the dealers labor manual says it is a 3.3 hour job plus oil, filter and tax.
I was at the bike with the wrench for the 500 mile, and it took a total of 50 minutes. When I checked out to pay I was hit with over $300 and refused to pay for it. Ended up settling out of court for 1 hour labor.

US | Jim as I paid today I was standing by the oil change display it said the kit I was charged 60 dollars for had 6qts of oil I know the manual says the bike holds 4.5 qts so I went back to service and asked where my qt and a 1/2 that I was charged for was the service writer rolled her eyes and came back with a qt bottle with dust all over the top I asked where the 1/2 qt was and she did not answer I then told them I was not leaving without getting what I was charged for and they handed me another qt. the bill ended up being 301.50

Wait until you get to the 15,000 mile service and it recommends changing the fork fluid. So here it is just a little more than 6 months old and I take it to the dealer to do the 15,000 and the recommended fork fluid change, oil change and rear tire replaced, $900+. The big bill, $300+ for the labor on the fork fluid, fluid, $7.00 or so. I think I did it for a charity cause. |

Now can you tell me how often you had your fork fluid changed in your other bikes? Almost all of my bikes i have ever owned did not get a fork fluid change untill i started to feel something odd or around 50,000 miles. I still tell this to anyone that takes the time to ask when bringing the bike to me for the fork change. I would definatly do it every two years though.

No kick here D. that is what I like about the forums when there are experts to keep us straight. I had another member PM me before your reply and ask if I felt any difference after the change. Here is my reply: <name omitted> hindsight is well, hindsight. If I was to do it again I would have waited until 30k or even 45k cause frankly, 6months is not long enough, and the mileage equates to someone who rides moderate in my opinion. That means ever two years or less, so ever year, year and a half for me should keep things well up front. To answer your question though, is no, no noticable difference, in fact had to check to make sure they did change it and there was evidence, thank goodness for a dirty bike, and sloppy mechanics. They left a little oil here and there and plus you could see where they handled to get it about to do the change. As for my other bikes, no. I put, I think, on my CB750 when I had it twenty years ago around 75k and never gave it a thought. On my GL1200 I just got rid of over a year ago, it was 21 years old when I bought it and had 25k. I never noticed if the fluid had been changed. Oh wait, that was air, never mind. I never changed the seals, nor did it leak and I put on about 38k in two years.

I then added this caveat: "Look, I have a certain amount of money put aside for this service. You can either change out the fork oil with a clear conscience or sell me that Victory Platinum Jacket over there. Your choice." I went home with the jacket.

That's what I wish I had done. I asked him honestly after the change out, did it needed to be changed? His answer was, well it is recommended, but I'd wait another 30k before changing again the way you ride. I've been eyeballing a few jackets, but hey, the funds went down the tubes!

On a routine oil and service before the 15,000 miles I checked the dealers shop manual with the wrench and discussed the fork oil change. The quote was about what Vary spend, $900, so I did some checking with some "experts" about if this is really needed at 15k. Mostly replies of "as needed or every couple of years". Sooo- I'm glad to hear our resident "expert" dwhite tell us every couple of years. I will have 40 to 50k at about 2 years. This makes me feel better as I did have some reservations about not changing it. Maybe I'll go buy a new jacket like Spock.
I guess I'm understanding this really is a "how old is the fork fluid" not "how many miles on the fork fluid"????
PoopinTenessee- You should have yours changed every 3 months just because--

, FL United States | Had the 17500 mile service done yesterday and the cost was $0. It was the 6th service done on the Preventative Maintenance Program I purchased when the Vis was delivered. The 7500 mile service was done out in Paso Robles,Ca when I was on my cross country trip earlier this year & I paid for that one out-of-pocket. All the rest was done on the PMP & cost me $0 FOR EACH ONE.
Now that I've used it up,they offered to sell me another PMP @ (get this!) $1600. They said that due to incresed costs that's the new price. I politely declined while thinking to myself "NFW".
BTW the PMP only cost me $900 when the Vis was delivered 11-17-07

PoopinTenessee- You should have yours changed every 3 months just because-- Just to make a qualifiing statement here. Sort of a give and take issue on the mileage versus time. If you were a cross county enduro type rider, you would probably do it by mileage. Visions are street bikes and the forks do not go through the abuse or cycle (pump) quite like other bikes. Admitedly there is more weight on the forks, but like i said, you will feel the front end getting non-responsive or stiff and slow to respond. This is why there are different weight fork fluids like engine oils. You can change springs and/or oil weight to change the front end riding characteristics. |
