Well, my one year warranty is nearing expiry. And I have to decide whether or not to purchase additional warranty - maybe $1000.

I have followed almost all of the discussions on this site for the past year - and have seen various threads on some items - such as the Radio Control (volume changes station) and poor fitting bags. But all these things take place in multiple threads over a long period - and are not easy to search out. I am hoping we can use this thread to post ALL the known warranty issues - and keep this thread alive for future Vision owners.

I want to see if the issues some of you have had (under warranty) are vital enough to require me to extend my warranty. I only have 6000 miles on my Vision (due to 8 summer weeks lost to a heart problem) - but I plan to do 8000 or more miles every year that I have left in me....

We can use this thread to prepare a Warranty Summary Report that maybe JAM could post perminently on the page. What say Ye ????

Had to have the gear indicator replaced in the first 3 months of ownership, it would not indicate 6th gear at all. The radio was replaced due to strange lines on the display at about 6 months. I have had timer problems since the 8th month of ownership that is just now being addressed under the extended warranty. The Service guys tried all the tests that Victory said to do which turned out fine so now they have ordered a new complete instrument display to see if that will stop the timer from reseting itself whenever it damn well feels like it. It will work sometimes for 5 hours and at other times it has reset itself and the fuel mileage average, speed average, time, and basically everything other than the true mileage and the two trip meters after sitting from morning until I leave work for lunch. VERY FRUSTRATING!!!!! To the point it really ticked me off a couple times when I truely wanted to know some of the info it was designed to give me! That has been about it for me. I've had the Vision for 16 months now and am glad I got the extended warranty, this is after all a NEW design and it is more technically advanced than most bikes on the road today. It is bound to have some issuses in the first couple years, that said, I'm REALLY glad I made the purchase, never had a machine under me that feels like this one does and draws the attention that it does.

YAHOO!!! Someone speaks! Thanks Rick...
Let's see:
1. Gear Indicator not showing correct gear placing
2. Radio Replacement due to improper display
3. Instrument Display Failure - computer chip failure????

That's a start..... what else????

My warranty issues:

1) Cruise control not working. Foot brake pressure switch wouldn't release, thus making the brake lights stay on all the time and prevent the cruise from working.
2) Radio won't hold settings. It's a small issue, but can be kind of annoying. Whenever my bike is shut off for more than 5 or 10 minutes it doesn't "remember" my last settings. I'll turn on the bike and it will be on a different radio station or mode or volume. It's under warranty still, so what the heck...
3) Chrome flaking off the left primary cover.

All-in-all my issues have all been pretty minor. Thankfully.

I think you can get the top extended warranty with no deductable for about $660 here if that makes a difference.

Ok - here's the list:
1. Gear Indicator not showing correct gear placing
2. Radio Replacement due to improper display
3. Instrument Display Failure - computer chip failure????
4. Cruise control not working. Foot brake pressure switch wouldn't release, thus making the brake lights stay on all the time and prevent the cruise from working.
5. Chrome flaking off the left primary cover.

Please keep it going - I know the list won't be long for this wonderful machine - but I don't think we have everything yet. You 'high-mileage' guys got anything?

After 8000 miles the only thing I'm asking for is info on the 'crickets' that came with the bike. I've noticed a slight chirp in the morning when the bike and belt are cool, which goes away when the temp goes up.

I guess the vision is like any other mechanical thing....some are better than others.

Call and ask for Juanita. Spanish name, but sounds like a home grown White girl on the phone. She emailed me a scanned in contract. I signed it, and emailed her back. You could fax it back if you don't have a scanner. That contract is all you'll have. Unlike my Honda & Kawasaki, which send you a little card and pamplet, Victory just has the extention attached to your VIN when a dealership pulls it up.

This just started in February on us. It is only when starting out, and goes away. I was going to go with squirrels or chipmunks, but crickets will do. I am going to ask the dealership with the next oil change-service.

Who would have thought that we got free Victory Motorcyle Pets when we bought our Visions? Man is that awesome marketing or what?

Wasn't she one of Barney's squeezes that work at the diner in Mount Pilot? He use to sing to her on the phone all the time. It's good to hear she works for a Vic Dealership, I always thought of her as a real nice girl.

Is this just an adjustment thing or a warranty thing? Before I head to the dealer I'd like to get your input to see what everyone has been successful with. Thanks!

I had the same chirp after 10,000 mi. only when cold. Loosened the axle nut and cranked both adjusters 1/2 turn. No more chirp. I also Armour-all the back of the belt once a month. Did the same thing with my HD. At 65k, when I sold it belt still looked new. No holeshots an burnouts help also.

Mine chirps when cold - for about a block - then shuts up. This is usually a couple of thousand klicks after a service. So I suspect the dealer is adjusting the belt and it behaves almost up to the time my next service is due. I can live with that.
I think I will try the Armour-All trick - can't hurt, I think.
Any other 'Proven' Warantee Items to add to the list? Let's get them documented, folks! Thanks!!!

On the early models, there was a regulator recall, mine went out at 29400 miles. It had been replaced, but that could have been a bad one to start with. No biggie, It was replaced the second time at no charge also. And use belt dressing on your belt, it works like a charm. ET

8. Maybe a problem in the future with Drive Belt/Pulley?

Y'all have been silent on this for a week or more. Is this the complete list then?

Loose coil and ignition wire, but I believe that was covered under one of the recalls.

Remap to solve stalling problem, which I believe was also a recall issue.

Heated seats would turn on and off for no reason, and the switches were reversed. (Not talking about the regular heat-off-heat cycle here). Seats were replaced. This was a defect from day one.

I'll look at my records but I believe that covers what I've experienced.

I see that there is yet another new post on this subject: EXTENDED WARRANTY

I am now 9 days away from one year - and yet the list (above) that we have compiled does not seem to suggest that it would be worth it to get the extended warranty. I am 65 next month, and likely will not put more than 5,000 miles a year on my Vision. So 4 years from now, it will only have maybe 30,000 miles on it. And $800 will buy a lot of gas and oil over that time.
Any arguments?

Any arguments?

Consumer Reports once reported that there is only a $0.17 return for every $1 spent on extended warranties. Of course, I'm sure there are folks that had engines blow, etc., who would say it's worth every penny. In the end, it all comes down to your comfort level. If taking a 17% risk makes you nervous, then you would be better off buying one; if it doesn't then don't worry, be happy.
