Ok guys i need some opinions here PLEASE.... since i have taken my Vision out of storage i feel the need for the Vtwin to sound like a Vtwin.. I have the Gatlin Gun end caps. and i want to Keep them. I have listened to the youtube videos of S1L1 vs stock and it must be my speakers cause i can barely here a difference at all! and thats alot of money to barely hear a difference... and the s1l2 doesNT allow me to use my tips. so i wanted to ask about the Big Honkers Vs Cycle dragons..

I noticed they are very close in price. i found the Big honkers for $449 with NO tax and FREE shipping. and the Cycle dragons are $395 + $25 shipping for ground delivery.. So since the price is soooo darn close now it guess it just comes down to which one.. can anyone share the GOOD and the BAD of any of these (2) pipes? thanks!

I have the Big Honkers and love the sound with the Lloyd's upgrade.
They sounded good without it, but really came alive with it.
Do get a lot of soot out the right side.
Was told it was because they have basically no baffles to catch soot.

I installed the Big Honkers that I got from CruiserCustomizing ( $404.00 and free shipping ) and I think they sound great , I also put in the high flow air filter and am going to have the remap done next week. I have also noticed some soot where the end cap bolts on and have cut some light gage metal and wrapped it to meet the flange where the end cap bolts on and secured it with a hose clamp untill I can get to a welder.

I believe that everyone has a different perspective on the muffler issue. When you listen to a peticular muffler remember there is not only loudness to consider but tone. Also will the second seat be annoyed. I currently have the stock system but hope to upgrade to S1L1 this summer. I have had the oppertunity to ride a Big honker and ride next to an L2. I also want to keep my gatlin tips. The other two setups offer benefits but I really like the deep tone of the L1's. Take the time and hunt done the system's and get a up close listen so the cash spent has no regrets. Hope this helps.

see i wanted to get the SIL1, but alot of people on forums like thevmc.com told me there was almost no real difference in tone and loudness between stock and s1l1. then i went to youtube.com and listened to thevog.net comparsion of the stock and s1l1 and i closed my eyes and listened closely and i could barely tell a difference. i did hear a difference, but wow was it close... so i wasnt sure if $500-$600 was worth such a little difference. but like with sound its a matter of opinions.. thats what makes it so hard..

I have Cycle Dragon pipes and I love them. You can adjust to your liking by adding or taking out the fiberglass packing. So they are (tunable). I drilled out my cats and removed all packing and drilled 6 half inch holes in each end cap. I also have the gatlin tips installed. It is louder but i can still hear the radio. It now has a very deep throaty sound. I will try to video a sound clip for everyone.

i just read on cruisercustomizing.com that a review of the Big honkers listed that the gatlin gun tips dont fit well (having a gap between the chrome heat shield and the tips) and that exhaust leak to the side of the pipes and cause the bags to get sooted? has anyone else had this problem and or say they have a "fitment" issue?

I have the Big Honkers and they do have a problem fitting with the gatlin end caps, however I had my wrench put gasket material to stop the exhaust leak. It has been a year without any leaking. The sound of the exhaust is great if you want bold sound. You can hear the radio fine.

i think they sound good. but they dont match the bike.. its as if they were made for another bike or something.. the bike is long enough without making it longer by added the pipes that stick way out.. my vision barely fits where i park it now... lol in my opinion they dont flow with the bike..

I rode all last year with all the packing in just like they came from Cycle Dragon. I did not have the fuel controller for a couple of months after installing the pipes only the high flow air filter. Anyway they sound real close to the level 2 mufflers only a tad bit louder and a tad bit deeper. I will check to see what muffler system is on the custom vision ness bikes at the dealer tuesday. They may have honkers on them and I can compare. I video taped mine but can not figuare out how to get file out of my camera software and into an e-mail. I will work on that. Hope this helps. If you have any other questions I would be glad to try and help. It is alot of money to spend so I know you want as much info as you can get.

WOW !! barry, thanks for all the help! you are giving the details that really help me out here. im leaning more and more towards the cycle dragons because you can tune them. with the HOnkers, what you get is what you get.. if you dont like it you cant change it... plus ive read more at least a half dozen reports of people saying the honkers "leak" exhaust out the side and had issues with fitting correctly. ive this now at 3 different places. you said you rode with the packing all in the mufflers.. has that changed at all since you installed them?

Guess i am weird or just old? I like the sound of my bike just as she is. Actual a fellow worker bought a full tour HD and feels the same way. Maybe we should start a new club? The "Quiet Pipes M/C Club". )
Oh well, still have my '99 with '03 stock pipes opened up. Nothing sounds like that.

i thought i liked my stock pipes also, until this year when i started riding again after a winters sleep.. i think last year the bike was so new to me i was still love struck..lol i still "love" my bike, but now im noticing and correcting things. example. i no longer put up with that joke of a fm radio. i use Sirius now. then i noticed in my opinion that my Vtwin engine doesnt sounds like much of a vtwin. Im not looking for Loud... im looking for a the rumble, a deep tone. Recently ive seen that the cycle dragon mufflers from all my reading allows you to taylor your own sound. A buddy of mine has a roadking and uses mufflers that do the same thing. (adjust the packing) you can change the sound to be louder or as it is when they arrive. I like that option to adjust a muffler. I still didnt order anything yet, as im waiting to hear back from cycledragon today.. I think the adjustable muffler might be the way to go, instead of the all or nothing way...

I also didn't like the putt putt from the muflers, but the bike was new, and I loved the way it rode. Now that spring is comming, I decided that I wanted to keep the Gatlin tips, and have a quiter V twin sound, not anoying like my other bike. I went with the L1S1, and, WOW! A little rumble, but a whole lot of giddie up. I am very pleased with the sound, and If I ride with a group of (quiet) bikers, they don't complain. (too bad)

Just FYI.....

Except for the California models the Vision doesn't have catalytic convertors. What you drilled out and removed the packing from was the "Exhaust Velocity Device" and while removing this may change the sound of the exhaust it will acutally HURT the overall performance of the bike.

After I did my cams, yes they were too loud. Great if you were just going to ride around the city, but horrible if you are trying to jam out on the highway at 70+ for more than an hour. I went to S1L1 after Daytona and LOVE them.
