Ok...am I delirious or is the cost of the lower deflectors really over 200 bucks? I found 229 is about the going rate online. Really?

Do any of you have suggestions? Not thrilled about paying over 200 bucks for lexan, a bit of aluminum and tape.

I have the deflectors but have yet to install them. Lazy and can't stay off bike long enough. Although Victory may well be overpriced here lets take into account what the product is. Firts off there is the curved lexan deflectors themselves. I can only say that if you want a 'shaped and cut' plastic part a die or mold must be made to accomidate that. As far as cost this is a dead stop for anyone trying to do this on your own----read: big bucks. I have read that they work as well open and closed and possibly have wind tunnel time----more big bucks. They work and hold open and closed, the mechanism is designed well. Someone has developed a template to allow pretty much foolproff instalation.

There are company's out there that make 'wings' for our and other bikes that have nowhere near the time and engineering that are much less expensive. Now as far as the Victory passenger floorboard risers. That is another story.

They are Plexi-Glass not Lexan. I am sure that if they were lexan my right one would not be broken. All I did was adjust it and it cracked.

Ok...so this begs the question even more since it is NOT lexan (strong) and is plexi (not strong). Is this really worth the expense? I see the previous post had some good explanation(s) but truly, I have a hard time seeing this type of thing being worth more than about 99 bucks (at best!).

Paul, bottom line, would YOU recommend them or no?

I am no expert but it does not look like lexan to me. I have seen 1/2 inch lexan stop 9mm bullets. This stuff does not look that tough.

They work great. Even cracked mine are still on the Vision and working. They block out the cold when turned out and bring the air around to the inside of my legs when turned in.

I wish they were motorized so I could adjust them at speed.

I am not saying that the Vision's engine is hot. What I am saying that when it is 95 degrees and the humidity is over 90%, South Texas is HOT. That air from the out side of the fairing is cooler and feels great running down the road.

I would pay for them if I did not have them. I am going to buy some thicker Lexan and form my own using the original mounts and plastic.

Well...they actually work quite well. If I want to be warm on the chilly mornings I tip them out and if it is hot out I tip them in and almost all the heat from the V twin is blown away. So, what is comfort and good design worth? I guess that is in eye of the beholder.

Well all let me offer my worthless 2cents. I paid the money for them in late fall for my winter riding and also painted them black.
They were the best for the cooler weather 65 and below to bout 20, can't say enought good things bout the cooler riding. Ok lets get to now in the warmer weather I turn them in at bout 70 or so and just angle them toward the rear cylinder and bingo it does bring
the temp down 15 degrees in hotter weather and also the legs feel good, no heat at all. Now the bad is that it does cause a little
buffering behind the wind screen, will make your beard stand forward (If you have one) but on a good note I feel that it also helps with the
when passing the big trucks on the highway as it feels a lot steadier in the truck wash. Now this is just my 2 cents worth as I only have 19
thousand on mine in 11 months. Bob

This is my next purchase for sure and i too think they are tad over priced as well. I see that on polairs web site they have black lowers which I have been watiing for and if indeed they are and it's not a typo then I will choke down the price and get them. I do need more air flow around my vision motor because when it gets above 85 I can really feel the heat coming of my motor. I would hate to know what it will feel like when it gets above 100 deg here which is does in lat july and august alot.

Do you get a template when you buy them or is this one your talking about made by a Vision owner????

Just ordered a set. My question is about mounting these to the bike. Do you guys suggest having the dealer put them on (for $80) and letting them take the hit for a new set if they fall off?

During the recent Vic Truck Demo I attended, all of the Visions had these on them and they seemed to be VERY secure on the bikes.

Let me know what you think!

The templates come with the kit. All you need is a China Marker and I had one in the tool box.

I love mine. A few weeks ago i bought my bike near Miami and rode it home to Chicago.
I used them turned in all through Florida 97degrees and humid, felt great with the extra air on the legs.
The first day i rode to just north of Atlanta, and after the sun went down it got chilly so out they went and i stayed nice and toasty. except for the ankles, i guess i shoulda worn longer socks.
I HIGHLY recommend them. Spend the money, you will not regret it.
One thing i would discourage, dont use your feet to move them in and out at speed. You dont have a good feel with your shoes and i have heard of people breaking them this way.
Personally i can reach down at even 70 mph and move them with my hands. Might be harder for the shorter riders.

I was one of the first people to get a pair of them for the Vision. Lets look at a dose of Victory reality. 1. You own a 20,000.00 piece of artwork. are you S E R I O U S L Y going to quibble over a 200.00 accessory? 2. Take a good look at these units, do they look like a square piece of clear plastic after thought that detracts from the look of the bike that you purchased BECAUSE of its looks?
You are paying for quality material, custom design, multi-function use, and a product that is Bike Specific. You can go out and buy a 49.99 "wing" air deflector, and come home thrilled because you only spent 49.00, but I personally wanna see you stand beside your Vision in a parking lot and explain to everyone who walks up to your bike admiring every facet of it, and have to answer "your bike looks beautiful, why did you put on those ugly ass deflectors on such a cool bike". Come on, quit whining over a couple hundred bucks. Hell you can spend that much on one good meal and that only lasts 24 hours...... Dont buy the best, and dress it like a pig.

Oh sorry while im being pissy here's a final thought. Your VISION is also nothing more than a pile of plastic, aluminum, and tape
but ya paid 20K for that pile........ like the rest of us. (wait, thats a lot of piles..................no, that didnt sound good either)
Sorry, i have to leave and go practice my "pile" metaphors..... need beer, be back later

If you think the lowers are overpriced, go take a close look at the trunk luggage rack and then try to figure out how it could be $330. Looks more like $33 would be about right.

good point Mudge, look at the passenger backrest price and the luggage rack for the street premium its all over priced, its just the nature of the hobby/sport if you want the toys dedicate a credit card to them Hell, look at all of you who paid 800.00 for the Victory Garmin GPS because it said "Victory" on the front of it, yet several of us bought the same identical unit
from Garmin for 225.00.

I found these on a site referenced by Miles the other day (in the rain riding thread) - I HAVE NOT used them but they look as if they might work just as well as the factory deflectors at about 1/2 the price.

They are some sort of polycarbonate. They could be Lexan which is a scratch resistant version trademarked by GE. PC is an extremely strong and clear plastic. Try to break a 5 gallon water bottle. Quality PC is very difficult to break. However, it has one extreme downside. It is attacked by chemicals very easily. Almost any chemical will cause it to crack and/or yellow including soaps, alcohols, oils, and thinners. Not immediately, but days, weeks, years later depending on the chemical. Many times the cracks are not visible until the plastic is stressed. Then spider-webbing can occur or complete failure. It is very tempting to wash PC with Windex, bike wash concentrate, bug remover, etc. Don't do it. Do not put any chemical on PC whatsoever. Wash it with water only...no soap.

I have found only one cleaner that I trust on PC. It is an automotive wax called Nu Finish. I've been using it on bike and boat windshields, goggle lens, safety glasses, plastic mirrors, etc. for over 15 years. This is a very mild wax with no abrasives or chemicals that affect PC. Even though not intended for PC, Nu Finish is a great cleaner for it. It cleans, smoothes, makes water bead like RainX (don't use RainX on PC), and makes the plastic look like new. Try it on your Vision windshield. You will be amazed at how easy it is to make it look new with this wax. It is very cheap and can be found at Walmart.

The deflectors themselves are very functional. They eliminate the heat issue. They also make the cold mornings warm. I do think they are priced high and was reluctant to buy for that reason. I'm glad I did. I use them every time I ride which is at least 5 days per week. I fold them out in the morning before leaving for work and back in at 5 o'clock. I don't have to take a jacket with me on cooler days and I am more comfortable on hot days.

THe nice thing about motorcycles is you customize them as you want, As for me I live in central California where it often gets well above 95 deg. I have riden my Vision without the lowers and prefer to ride with them.. Quite honestly $229 was pretty cheap insurance to keep from cooking my nuts. Your coice

You may want to take a look at these, especially if your factory lowers have cracked or broken and the mounting brackets are still in place. The unfortunate down side is that the mounting brackets do not seem to available from Victory seperately from the deflectors, and the brackets are too complex a part for CYCLEOPS to design and make such a small number, simply not cost feasable. Also they do advertise custom colors, so cherry red may be available as a custom color, but their standard colors appear to be chrome, black and grey at this time. Since the most popular color has been the black cherry, I would think that one way or another it would be avialable, or they could be gotten unfinished and you could paint them on yor own.

I personally went with the Baker Air Wings. They are stronger and they actually bolt on. My experience with taped on products is less than favorable. Now if your squeemish about drilling holes in your bodywork than I don't suggest them. Here is the link: http://www.bakerbuilt.com/Victory.htm
