Hello,

I am thinking about making history by contacting my local dealer and getting specs made up regarding making the Victory Vision a actual police unit for my department I work for. This will be a very tough task because I am up against manufacturers like BMW and Honda.
I am asking you guys because the concerns I have are these:

1. No antilock brake system
2. where to mount emergency lights
3. Can the battery handle the LED lights and siren and police radio that will be added to use on a daily basis
4. Financial cost involved with the dealer in making this happen.

I currently own a 2008 midnight cherry Victory Vision and know its ability as far as maneuverability and torque ect.... please give me your input. I any one knows a engineer with Polaris who i could contact personally to make this possibly a reality please let me know. i have tried contacting Polaris myself with no luck.

I would like serious input on what you think and feed back on any short comings yoiu might think i would encounter.

I think it can easily be done. A lot of the brain can be put where the trunk is and I see this as a very structural sound machine. The rear tip over area as well as the front could be redone to accomidate stuff. The front fairing could house lights in a different location, or use the existing running/turn lights for emergency and relocate the running/turnsignal out to the mirror.

I've attached a pic of the San Antonio PD 'wings. With a little creativity I think it can easily be done.

I think a Vision Cop bike would be a great ideal. I have been with my department for 15 years,I was a motor officer for 5 of the 15 years. I started off riding the Kaw's and we switched to the Harley's. I have riden our Harley's with and without the ABS brakes. ABS is nice but it's not a major factor. The only thing that may be an issue is storing the relays for the LED lights, the Radar unit and the siren. The rear tour pack may have to be enlarged inorder to get this equipment to fit. Would like to see the finished product. Good Luck.

Mike Schultz of Arizona Victory did a Kingpin Police bike that he donated to the Tucson PD.  Mike is very well connected at Victory and would be a great place to start as far as what all would be involved with a Vision conversion.

A small picture of the Kingpin Police bike is on the coverpage of their website here: http://www.arizonavictory.com/

Give Mike a call - (520) 770-9500.  He has a great dealership and seems like a great guy from what I've read about him.

I hope this pans out.

If you make a Vision into a police bike then the police will be as fast and nimble as we are. That cant be good. :-)

I thought there already was a Vision police bike in service. I'll try to find the picture.

I thought there was too, but I can't find that pic anywhere.

Wasn't there some small Dept. in California that had 1 or 2 in the pool?

No, no, no. there was a PhotoShop Vision that was made to look like it was a police edition. However, I too have searched the world-wide-web and have turned up nothing.

In LA I am starting to see more HD police bikes than I can remember in a LONG time. Being on a Vision, I know I can "stay out of their way" because of the superior power and handling. If the go to Victorys, I may be in trouble.

I still wonder if ABS is needed on a bike?
If I was going to add all those extras I would install a second battery. Isolate that system from the bike system then charge that battery from the bike. Put the 2nd battery in a saddlebag?

wow awesome guys this is the input i wanted! OK first off i have determined not to get the trunk with the bike because getting off the bike if i need to would be harder and the bike would be heavier, second nothing can be stored in the saddle bags because that will be needed for equipment such as ticket books and accident report ect...
I am wondering about the the rear leds because the rear end wm and using ill be in a lower area than most police bikes i have alread thought of LED strobes in the brake light system but i think i will still need a mount to put blue and red LEDS up near the 2nd rear seat.
Please keep the ideas coming and if anyone finds a true Vision that is already a Police unit get a picture and a point of contact, also if you know of a engineer who does this let me know. I think the abs shouldn't be a problem.

You might try contacting Mike Schultz at Victory Police Motorcycles. They're the ones that made the Kingpin cop bike. Well, to more specific, the guys that made the bike formed this company.

This will be very cool to watch.

I have a silver 1/2 helmet (Scorpion EXO-100) with a blue flip down visor and when I have the grey/black Victory jacket on it is amazing how fast people will get out of the left lane when they seem me coming up behind them.  I always run with the HID on also and that adds to the the blue light effect.  Fun-fun-fun!

Ive owned 6 bikes 3 with ABS 3 without. Could i tell a difference NO. The braking system on the Vision is so superior that i dont feel that the bike is any less by not having ABS. I think ABS was a buzzword the last 5-6 years as a "fantasy feature", but I have never seen any realtime statistics from actual owners who say that having them really saved their lives. To me its no more a necessary gadget than Honda's air bag...... What i think is more valuable to any motorcycle police is the tip over protection. Id rather know i wont be crushed by 1000 pounds. Before I sold my Honda ST1300, the county police called me and asked to see my bike as a contender against the BMW which they had but were not thrilled by. At the time I also had the rear camera with infrared on the bike and they wanted to see that since I apparently was the only person on the east coast with one of the units. They thought the ST1300 was a great bike but too heavy and the center of gravity was a bit too tall for a cop to be on all day long. You guys think the Vision engine is hot, you aint felt nothing till you rode the ST1300. I swear over the 3 years my nads got twice baked.

VisionCop, surpised that you won't use the trunk. If you have a Vision already, then you know the size of the saddlebags. Maybe Vic would design a smaller trunk, or you could do that yourself I guess. But I would think that you could make a smaller, light, trunk that could incorporate the lights as well. May not look as good as the factory trunk, but I think it would be worth it. The pic of Mike Shultz's Police Victory has an aftermarket trunk. I know all the stuff that you're going to have to carry, just can't imagine getting it all in to those two saddlebags.

Update....concerning the trunk...to dismount off the bike in a emergency situation IE being shot at or whatever I have opted not to use the trunk also it would add about 25 pounds of unnecessary weight . I have thought of using the mounting trunk bracket to design a LED strobe mounting case for the rear LEDS that will be required for rear approaches of vehicles since there is very little area to mount lights on the rear.
Concerning space for equipment as long as i have room for my ticket book thats all i neeed...hahahahah just kidding . I will have enough space for additional reports such as accident reports and stuff so i should be fine.
Napalm Motorsports will be designing a second battery for the siren and LED lighting system and designing a cooling system so when i am stationary doing radar it wont get hot siting there, also the mapping system and engine will be tweeked for better performance and speed for that needed acceleration that police bikes might use. I have a meeting with Napalm next Wednesday so i can wait!

VisionCop, definitely post some pics when you get done. Not a motor guy, but I'm on the job. Figured you'd need more room. I know I did. I hope it works, I know it'd be a step up from the Harley. My buddy was motors for 7 years, he refuses to ride Harleys now because of the issues he had. Granted, he did stuff that most average riders wouldn't, but I'm sure you know. Anyway, keep us updated.

New to the forum. First post. My 08 Vision Tour is a cop bike. I'm a LEO in Alabama and do motorcycle escorts as a side job.. The blue lights were super easy to install on the vision, the siren however took a little enginering, but it turned out better looking than the factor Harley mount. 90% of the riders around here run Wings (we have had more than one Harley melt down on very slow wide load escorts) I'm the one and only Vic. and have had no problems ( other than getting into the throttle too much on the takeoffs and lighting the tire up).

As far as installing all of the equipment, I did it all myself. I used all Led lights so there is very little current draw. I used a Tactical Dynamics 4 head light bar on the front just below the windshield, two T3's mounted on either side of the front fender (using the driving lights as mounting points) and a Kartco mini bar on the rear luggage rack. The siren is a 100 watt Carson 361. I have not noticed a voltage drop at all, ran a master power lead from the batt back to the L saddle bag put it on a 12volt relay( so I can kill all of the power if needed), then switched all of the lights w/ another relay. The dummy switch on the dash bridge was a perfect place for the master pwr switch. As for the lights and siren controls I fabricated a bracket out of sheet 16ga sheet metal to hold a set of enduro light/turn/horn controls(from ebay). High beam=blue lights, left turn=yelp, right turn=wail, and horn= air horn. I mounted this bracket off the rear of the radio thumb switches, it works great. I only had to drill two hole in the top front corner of the saddle bag to get all of the wires in and out, sealed the holes w/ clear silicone. I mounted everything in the recesses in the bag, cut out a piece of 1/4 inch plywood to cover all of the wiring and still have storage space in the left bag.

Like I said this is my first post and I don't know how to post pics yet, but I'll work on it....
