| Here's something that is driving me nuts:
I am in the process of buying a new helmet and have been trying a few but everyone of them has been noisey on the vision with the screen in down position.
I have had other bikes and not noticed the noise - Buell XB12, KTM 690, Ducati, SV1000, ST1300 but The quietest helmet is my old Shoei Raid 2 and being a Shoei fan I had decided on a Multitec...untill I tried one on the Vision - it had an annoying noise whistlling on each side of my forehead. Also tried a Nolan and an LS2, all noisey.
So Vision riders - What are the quietest helmets out there? |

as far as the quietest helmet,mine has never said a word. |

Perry Hall, MD | The wife says I don't need no helmet to not hear a thing.
Do like my Scorpion 200 when the weather calls for more then the cover provided by the 100, but not sure that it is the quietest.
Adjust the windshield height and see if the noise level changes. |

Fountain Inn, SC United States | I've found the Shark Evoline to be pretty quiet, especially in the chin-up position. It's made to ride as a full-face OR a 3/4 helmet. It's currently the only helmet that is DOT rated in the chin-up position.

It really depends on the airstream you are operating in. Some helmets are much noisier when they are behind a windshield.

Arkansas | Helmets/vents are designed for airflow from front to back with minimal or no wndscreen. We all have airflow that is from rear, sides, etc depending on windscreen position. (I realize you know all this- no offense) They are all a little noisey with the wind from the rear. It's like flying an airplane backwards- kinda rough on the airflow. |

| I use two different helmets for my riding purposes. My daily helmet that I use for my commuting back and forth to work is a Arai open face that I have had for about 7 years and the helmet I use when riding on the weekends with my group is HJC AC3 complete with J&M helmet speakers and hookup for use with my Vision's CB/Intercom (the AC3 also allows me to install a face shield when we encounter rain). Neither helmet has shown to be louder than when I used them on my Goldwing although open face helmets tend to always tend to be noisier than full face helmets. I have also recently purchased a Nolan N103 flip front helmet and with this helmet I have noticed quite a bit more wind noise than I do with either of my open face helmets, go figure. |

Memphis | I also go with the theory that it's not the helmet, it's the airflow around the bike. All big bikes with big windscreens offer lots of protection from the wind but the way they manage the airflow causes a low frequency roar that is not there on other style bikes. I have a Nolan N-102 and a Scorpion EXO-100 and it is a totally different bike depending on which helmet I am using. The full/flip face is much noisier on the Vision compared to the EXO-100. I think if I had a Blade windshield on the Vision it might help with a full face but I'd rather wear earplugs and deal with the loss of radio clarity than give up the airflow management. I wear earplugs regardless of the helmet but with a full face, I feel like I have to or will get fatigued much sooner. |

New Bohemia, VA | I'll either wear the shorty or in the winter the EXO-100. I have hearing loss around the tone you all might be referring too and perfer to "hear the noise" so I do not wear a full face anytime of the year or weather.
I think also it is what you concentrate on, if you think about a noise and are always "looking" for it, it is always there and it will annoy you. I'm too occupied scanning in front and behind me and enjoying the ride that I sometimes forget to turn the tunes on.
If I do catch a noise, I'll isolate it in my mind and determine if it is just normal or should I stop and check it, like when I have a dead body dragging under the bike or something of that nature. Other than that, let it ride... |

Hot Springs Village, Arkansas | I use a full face Arai that is quieter than my old Shoei, but not so good with vents open, or a decent half helmet in summer, with the half helmet ear plugs are required. I prefer to use the moldable silicon ear plugs/covers, they don't kill all the noise, but all the bothersome buffeting sound is gone. They actually make it much easier to hear clear music! These plugs are at Wally world in clear(reg. size) and hot orange(smaller ears), they are very comfortable. |

San Antonio, TX | +1 on the ear plugs. If I do more than five to ten miles I put in ear plugs. I use the Nolan 103N (Winter and sometimes in the summer) and the EXO-100 (Summer and sometimes in the winter).
It would be interesting if someone would design a helmet for us that have wind protection.
When I ride with the Nolan I always keep the winsheild all the way down, regardless or speed. On the EXO-100 I use the windsheild to tune the pocket of air at head level as needed.

I really like the look of this helmet. WebBikeWorld's was impressed with the quality but the price for a "half" or 3/4 helmet was steep. Still, I'll be scanning ebay & craigslist for deals. |

Memphis | webBikeWorld likes the Nolan N43 "Air" as it's 2009 helmet of the year. Also selected the "Andie" LED flashlight from our new friends at Clearwater as the Tool of the Year. Baltimore, Md | I have a couple of helmets and the quietest by far that I have used is the Schuberth C3. It was video reviewed by webbikeworld and chosen as their choice in 08 for quiet. It's not sold in the USA due to not being DOT certified (though it IS certified to the higher European standard). I bought mine from the UK and like it a lot for noise attenuation. BUT - it is quite expensive. Of course, you usually get what you pay for.
