OK, so I decide to breakdown and do this whole GPS integration thing right (sound connection on bike and BlueTooth with my Scala Cardo Rider Q2). Bought a Garmin Zumo 660. Great unit. I knew that to get total integration with bike, I needed the Garmin Motorcycle Audio Integration / Mount Kit (Victory PN 2877930). Dealer came down on the $1000 MSRP for both, but I still paid paid $75-100 over what I could have purchased on line . . . did this just to support my local dealer. Unit performs great on my way home.

Get everything out of the box. I'm wanting to mount to my center console. Garmin ships with a variety of Ram mount hardware, but this seems to be hardware to mount to handle bars. I also have the motorcycle mount kit, so I think I'm golden, right? Wrong! It seems that I now need the Victory PN 2878028 GPS Mount Kit for another $149 MSRP to get properly installed. WTF??? I know, I know . . . welcome to Victory aftermarket parts scam and I'm sure HD is worse, but it's starting to lessen my otherwise "happy" experience of upgrading my new bike. What's equally frustrating is that the parts guy know less about all this than I do . . . they really shouls spend some time on these forums!

Two questions:

Any clean, inexpensive, and sturdy way to mount this Zumo 660 to console without having to buy Victory's $149 mount?

What's the chances that I take console apart only to find that this Zumo Audio harness won't connect to my 09 Vision? Any easy fixes/ adapters if this is the case. (I went through 2 iPod adapters till I found the one that worked with my 09.)

Thanks in advance for your help here!

I feel your pain on the 660 pricing. I talked to my dealer about the delta between Vic and retail and they actually told me to do it my self and took down the info to provide to other customers. I got my 660 for $575 shipped, cut and redid the stock cable to plug directly into the vic and purchased my mount from Arizona Victory. http://www.arizonavictory.com. Still not cheep $90, but better.

By the way, by cutting the cable I was able to minimize the hole in the dash, my cable feeds through the center of the mount. Very clean.

RiverRat,

Did you use std cable that shipped with Garmin? Did you splice audio outs on Garmin cable to Victory harness to get sound from speakers? Any advice would be appreciated.

Yes, I used the stock cable rather than buying the cable from Vic. Do a search on the 660, there is a lot of info on connectors etc. I made this up (if I can upload it) for a buddy to help him with the wiring.

Isn't there a round flat disk that that be affixed to the top of the console, then you suction the garmin to that. I believe this an option with the Garmins, much less expensive !

Thats kinda what I was thinking wjoel...not to mention the unsightly mount when your not using the unit.... but I still would like to see a couple of options such as RiverRat's.

I bought the very expensive u-shaped piece of aluminum to mount my existing Zumo 660 on the console of my 2010 Vision. The Canadian accessory catalog shows it at $184.99 CDN. Dealer knocked it down to $154.00 CDN. Did the install last night. Already ordered the Garmin connection cable / mount with the bike. To add insult to injury, after paying soooo much for a ten dollar hunk of aluminum, the mounting screws provided with the mount to attach the Garmin mount to it were an eight of an inch too long and bottomed out before the base was mated to the face of the aluminum mount. Had to improvise at ten o'clock at night and use four small stainless steel washers under each screw to get the base to sit flush against the bracket. Go figure that the genius's who made this base didn't try mounting the Garmin connection base to it before packaging them up with screws that are much too long.

Riverrat/B10VVRider,
Nice looking mount. Is that the one Victory sells?

Sounds like you used the std harness that came with Garmin. Thx for diagram.

I am a total rookie at electronics. Did you just cut off the connectors and splice wires together to integrate sound? Make an adaptor harness with new male and female connectors? I tried searching and couldn't find detailed wiring how to's.

First pic is connector on Victory supplied audio harness. Second is (I think) the harness on the Vision.

I did use the standard harness that comes with the non VIC unit. I just cut the cable at the plastic Y in the cable, striped back the outer cover, separated the wires that go to their respective connectors. I then put heat shrink over the groups of wires, crimped new pins and connectors on and plugged it in. Also I waited to put the fuse holder and connectors on until the cable was fed through the panel, this way I was able to minimize the hole size. I was also lucky to have the crimp tool for the pins from an old job, the pins are the same size as a serial "D-SUB" connector.

This is where I purchased the VIC style connector and pins. Radio shack for the rest.

Sounds pretty easy . . . so it seems I need to purchase:
(1) - http://www.newunitedracetech.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_i...
(4) - http://www.newunitedracetech.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_i...
Shrink wrap

Then I need to crimp 4 pins to 4 wires from Garmin base and push into P1 - P4 on the newly purchased connector. Plug in and I'm golden? Where I get confused is what wires colors go to which pins for audio. I see from diagram RED = +12 v BLACK = Ground and they go to P1 & P4 . . . what confuses me (since I'm a total rookie at wiring diagrams) is what wires my audio comes from. GY/BU & BU/OR. Doesn't help that I haven't cut into my wires yet. Your help so far has been excellent. Any further "nuggets" of wisdom will help us all figure this out. This is what is so noce about this site! Thx. BTW, you could go into business making and selling "adapter harnesses" to us poor SOBs who shelled out this kind of cash and can't get the Zumo 660 hooked up.

PS Victory engineers need to think how messed up this is when they change connectors from model year to model year! At least do us the decency of providing a cheap adapter harness!

Oh, I don't have a fancy crimper tool . . . can I just crimp with small needle nose pliers?

First I must apologize I posted an old drawing above. I just noticed the connections on that version was an experiment I tried (MIC). Sorry all, I was not paying attention to the drawing version, that should be deleted.

There are two methods of doing this, one is to integrate the audio to the AUX input (which I did) or integrate through the GPS connection which I believe most people are doing. I wanted to use the 660 as my MP3 player with stereo so I cabled it out the the AUX jack. Going through the GPS connector is a single channel. This is why the drawing has the 1/8" stereo connector section.

Look at the drawing attached (V2.5) which shows connecting the purple to(P3)and the orange to(P2), some people double up the brown and purple. I am not sure if there is any benefit doing this since I did not go that direction.

When you buy you connector buy extra pins in the event you screw some up. They are cheap. I guess you could use pliers, never tried it.

RiverRat (or any othe motorcycle electrician),

Got all the stuff to do your connector mod. New diagram is clear. I git my pins and connector. Never "made" my own connectors. Is it as simple as stripping the wires, crimping pins to wires, and pushing each pin into the corresponding hole on the connector? I assume, the pins will lock into the connector. Should I solder wires to pins . . . they are awfully small pins, but I don't want wires comming loose. Any advice would be appreciated.

RiverRat,

Question, concerning the pin numbering on the purchased male connector I'm adding . . . is it numbered facing the back of the connector (towards silicone connector . . . where wires push into) or from front where pins connect to female connector on bike? I got all wired up and I get neither power or sound. I'm wondering if my pins are fully seated or if I have numbering backward. Thx!

Hi Guys,
I'm trying to hook up my GPS. Where exactly is the female plug? I'm assuming it is under the radio console but I don't see it. I'm working on a 2010.

Thanks,
Marc

Ok, I found it. The plug is a different config and has an extra red wire in it.

Red wire is switched 12+. There is also a blue/pink which I can't identify. The others follow the wiring schematic supplied above.

So dumb question here, if I intend to use the Zumo 660 with the 09 Vision, I can plug directly into the gps plug on the bike (where the 2720 plugs in) and don't need the 1/8 stereo connector? My 2720 went the way of the dodo, and I need to replace it. Being a high tech bike I would like something more current than the 2720.

This looks like a fairly straight forward project. One other question, where did you find the 660 for only 575.00?

Where was the connector on the 2010 Vision, exactly. I just looked, and all I saw was the 4 connector hanging out to the right of the main panel. Do I need to dig down in more, or diff. location?

Also, are you saying there is an extra red wire in the connector, so there are 5 , not 4 as in the prior comments/pictures?

Thanks for any help, as $150 for a few wires is just not fair.

PS if the 1/8 in audio plug is used, won't the verbal instructions only come over when you only have the AUX on, not when radio is on?

Thanks all!!!

The connector is under the console on the r/s about half way down. It has a vinyl protective cover over the end of it. The red wire is switched 12+ volts. Yes, there are 5 wires. There is also a blue/pink that I couldn't identify. I used the aux plug wires since they allow for stereo and I'm using the GPS to play mp3s and the gps plug only allowed for one channel. I don't know if the gps will interrupt the radio or not when using the gps plug since I didn't try that but it will interrupt the audio and it won't interrupt the radio when wired to the aux plug wires. I just thought of something, I wonder if the extra wire blue/pink would have allowed for stereo? Hmmm...

I mouted the Zumo 660 to an 09. Couldn't plug directly is even with the Victory harness since they changed the connectors from 09 to 10. I returned Victory harness and used one that came in the box.

Had some help from some folks on the this site. I cut plug off of bike. I only had 4 wires (not 5) 2 for power and 2 for audio. I soldered in 2 - electrical connectors to each pair of wires (like ones you use for trailer hitches . . . can buy at Wal-Mart or Auto Zone) to included GPS mount that came with the 660 (cut off connectors here as well. RED 12v to BN/PK . . . BLK Ground to BLK/WH . . . Orange Audio - to GY/BU . . . Purple Audio + to BU/OR. Works like a charm!
