I just got my cams done last weekend (thanks kevin and jason) and some guys at work knew I got it done. Well the superintedant for the new generator plant we are building rides a new 110 SE Ultra. He has made some performance mods to his bike like air cleaner, x pipe exhaust, and remap computer. We were out by his bike talking about riding this weekend and the guys start egging on a match race. The SE owner is all over this and starts egging it on to. Ive been asked to bring my "space ship" out to play. The question is should I really do this. I mean I feel pretty confident that I will be able to hold my own but am concerned about the SE owners psychological well being if I trounce all over a motorcycle that he has over $45k in. It would be like telling a 4 year old there no such thing as santa and everything you believe in has been a myth. On the other hand it will be a good test of what my bike can do and would no longer have to speculate on how my vision would do compared to an HD SE.

Thoughts?

Chris

...why do you need to ask? It will be the best sales pitch for the Vision to date...why spend $45,000 for a fancy piece of junk when you can spend $20,000 less and get all you need and then some... he'll be glad you did... he'll be a new Vision rider and thank you for it.

Just be sure to give yourself plenty of room and not some 1/4 mile race.  Over 80mph is where the aerodynamics kick in and the magic really happens compared to the Ultra.

He sounds like the thug in the Dirty Harry flick that was staring down the barrel of the 44 Mag.  "I got's to know!"  I hope you blow his head clean off.

The psychological thing is a big deal. I don't know if this guy is a friend or not, or his buddys, but whip'n someone's bike is a big deal, unless you know it is really friendly and they & you can handle it. There is a lot of pride in bike ownership, no matter what brand. So ride softly, you already have the "Big Stick"! Oh and if it does get down, lower the windshield at the stop light and make sure he sees you do it. That really psychs them out.

Personally, I would never advocate street racing. But deep down inside ........ I hope you blow his bags off...... and then tell him you missed a shift from 3rd to 4th and really crush his psyche.

Whip his A$$, I do it all the time. The look on thier faces is priceless.

HINT...

Come out oh the hole STRONG they have lots of torque but low HP. I have seen them on the Dyno.

You can beat 110 SE's on a stock Vision but when you add Lloyds cams, Lloyds Fuel controler, Air Filter and Big Honkers you can walk away from them with NO problem.

make sure your engine is warmed up before you race. not just for the race part of it but for the wear.. then kick his HD love a$$ . i expect a Full report.. but like i said make sure your engine is warmed up. if your in the parkinglot and both bikes are cool, go start yours then go over to his and talk about his bike as yours idles.

A stock Vision with an average rider should have no problem with a screechin weasel ultra. A cammed vision should embarass it.Two words for you.

More head games:

When he shows up, walk around his bike and say "An Ultra!?  I thought you were bringing a Screamin Eagle V-Rod!  Well, since you're here, let's get this over with."

Be the bigger man. Set up the race, and just as you are about to go - drop your kick stand, shut down the bike, and walk away. You will get lots of ribbing, but in the back of thier minds they will never know, and that will bug them even more.

Oh, since I don't practice what I preach. I dusted a worked HD the other night on the way home from work. He blasted in front of me as we entered the HOV lane, and proceeded to take off. I stayed on him for so time while he goosed it, and let off, basicly toying with him. Then when the road was clear, and he goosed it again, I dumped the gas and flew past him. He twisted it hard and made a lot of noise, but he only got smaller in my mirror. Is there a speed limiter on the Vision?

By all means honor this joker with a race. Pick a safe place that will allow your VV to stretch her legs. If you compare torque curves you will see that your advantage really comes on above 3000 RPMS. Make sure you run it to 5 grand before you shift and you will flat out kick his ass.
Been there done that and the look on their face is always priceless.

Do I smell a hint of Testosterone in the air? Boys, Boys, now play nice, you know what Momma always said, "If you absolutely must race him, whip his a$$, then PULL his man card for even showing up."

Hey Chris, Sorry we missed you at Jason's... Just go a find a quiet road and do a few practice runs... Then take him on!

It is way too much fun listening to them after you blow their doors off.

Most guys I know with Screaming Chickens won't play with me. So if you get the chance, embarrass them all.

Well I guess I have a drag race date for monday at lunch. It will be in a safe place. This is starting to grow amongst all the riders and gearheads at work. Kinda has a high school drag race kinda feel to it. Sounds like 50 people want to show up to see this.

The only way you could possibly lose this race is get killed out of the hole (which is possible) and you short shift at 2500 RPM. The longer the distance, the more potential embarrassment for the H-D SE. Don't be running something stupid like 1/8th mile. That doesn't prove a damn thing about the performance of the bikes. Let both bikes stretch their legs and breathe and the best bike will ALWAYS win.

One last question: are you riding with the tour pack on your bike?......now, that would just be downright embarrassing for him when he gets beat. Win, or even lose, please tell us how it goes.

varyder - not ex infrantry but ex tank crewman. Eagle is my last name
Phoenix - almost never have tour pack installed but would be funny. His tourpack is off also.

He said something about maybe starting from a roll as the throttle is limited on takeoff. Anyone know anything about that?

First gear roll on at 20 -25 mph, windshield down, bags empty, 1/2 tank of gas, tires pumped up, pull in the air deflectors, take off the handle bar tassles, raccoon tails, mud flaps, unhook the trailer, leave the saddleman bag at home, motors warmed up, hey I'm ready! Too bad you don't have half dozen Vision - Riders show up with you! Oh and hopefully the "Law" doesn't get wind of it. Be careful, and whatever you do, don't look at him, you'll start laughing and run off the road.

I can just picture a secretary in pumps standing in the middle of the road dropping a Black and Orange rag to start the race! Have fun be safe.

All of my HD friends are too smart and know the numbers .... no takers. I know a guy with a Rocket III and he wants to race.....but I am too smart for that.
