Ruskin, Fl | I got blasted in the back today. Stopped fast for a changing light. Driver said she was doing 50 and didn't think I was goin to stop. I really doubt she was going that fast upon contact. She was on the brakes as hard as she could. Prob hit me at 30. Pushed me 25 feet. My question is do you think it's a total? 2008 Tour Premium with 35K. Beside the damage to the back, the front tipover is bent back and front fairing is broken. Floorboard is toast also. I hope so. I don't want this one anymore. Last crash bike didn't look half as bad and it was $6900 in repairs. No bleeding or broken bones, but I am already sore. Can't wait till tomorrow.
Oh, the wife is VERY upset. That's her red car. I thought she was further back and wouldn't go thru the yellow. She never expected me to stop.

Thank goodness that you are/will be OK. I feel bad for your wife. This has to very upsetting for her.
One of my biggest worries when I am driving or riding around those I know is this type of event.
Did the rear tipover fail?

Arizona | Man, do I hate to see this. My brother in law had a similar incident with his Dad's girlfriend rear ending him on his bike with her car.
Happy to hear you were not seriously injured. The bike can always be replaced. Take care. |

New Bohemia, Va | I too am glad you're okay. Not that it makes any difference, whenever we travel seperately, together, she's always up front so I can keep and eye on her.
By the way, knew of a brand new Anny that got slammed in the rear and disegrated the back half. All the damage turned out to be cosmetic and in a few weeks he was back on the road again.
If it was any other bike I don't think you would have been showing any pictures the same day.

Ruskin, Fl | Thanks for all the well wishes. That's funny Songfan, can't believe I missed that. Yes, my wife was driving her G6 convertible hardtop behind me. We would normally be two up. In fact she was on the back most of the day. I was elected President of the local Fire and Iron Firefighter Motorcycle chapter this week. There was already a ride scheduled for 9 this AM. There was no was I could get off duty at 8AM, go pick her up, and make it in time so she met me at the firehouse. As far as who leads, not sure why I was in front, but doubt she will let me lead again.
The tipover did work for the most part. I heard the tire squeal and thought it was the car next to me. Than I was on the ground next to the bike. So freaking fast not sure what body parts hit what. I guess my 225 pounds flying off pulled it all the way over. I was thrown clear of the bike. I think the tour pack kept me off the hood of the car, than threw me forward off the bike. The front tipover didn't break off this time, but the force of the bike being pushed on it bent it rearward, breaking the fairing at the bottom. I know from experience the inverted "U" sub frame is bent too. I do agree that all the body work took a lot of force before tire contact. I think it would have been worse on a bike where the rear tire was exposed, at least as far as your body is concerned.
I feel really bad at how upset she is. She loves to co-pilot. She said the first thing I said was "I'm getting a new bike?. I have been talking about a 2011. This call to the insurance agent Monday is going to be like an insurance commercial. The car has a decent amount of damage too.

Perry Hall, MD | cw1115 just know that you and the Mrs. are not alone. While picking up my bike from the dealer recently they had another Vision in for repairs after being rear ended by the rider's wife.
A 2011 would be a nice ending to your story. |

| I'm really glad you are OK. I hope your insurance will pay on this accident.......in MO. when two vehicles collide that are owned by the same person, the insurance will not pay a dime. |

| I don't know how the insurance regs. are in Florida, but on MO. this is considered a "self inflicted" wound, they will not protect you from yourself. |

LaPorte,Tx. | Now that is a bad day!! Glad your ok. Looks totalled to me. If the car hit the back tire then that could be an issue with the swing arm, plus looks like the car hit the right muffler which may have bent the header pipe. Hope your insurance covers the accident to your satisfaction. Also, hope your wife feels better, she must feel really bad. |

Salt Lake City | It's always good to to hear that everyone's OK when a motorcycle is involved. I've walked, uh, limped away from two - the most recent(two years ago) was a rear-ender at a rally. I'd push the ins. company to look real hard at the bike, specifically for structural damage to the frame, front end, etc. My experience has been that it's dang hard to really see these things(i.e.- hairline crack in the frame) and if you have an insirance company and agent you can trust, I'd lobby to have the bike replaced. |

Chattanooga, TN | It sounds like several of you have had this or a similar instance where you or someone you know was hit by a spouse and survived. This rate of incidence alarmed me so much I had to take notice. Lucky for you, I have made a checklist for myself if this were to happen and you may use it if you like:
1. Start counting her pills on a daily basis to ensure your spouse is taking her meds as directed.
2. Make a close relative the trustee of any personal property and beneficiary of any insurance.
3. Dull and blunt the knives in the kitchen by trying to cut wood, concrete or steel as these are effective mediums.
4. If you have any personal defense weapons, consider putting them in a place accessible only to you, although I wouldn't recommend a safe deposit box as your intentions could be misconstrued by the bank teller who lets you in the vault.
5. Lock the tool box when not in use stating "Jerry next door had some tools stolen a few weeks back and I just found out about it." as there are pointed screwdrivers which may be tempting to her.
6. Take pencils and pens out of the home a few at a time, slowly replacing them with crayons so as not to be noticed immediately as this could provoke her(And we wouldn't want that, now would we?).
7. Consider getting her a gift, such as an electric razor pointing out the many benefits of the latest model.
8. Let her go to sleep first, it is safer that way.
9. Be the chef. Don't fall for the "Honey, I made your favorite dinner tonight" routine as it could be your last supper.
10. Very discretely mark your whiskey bottle since alcohol is a solvent for many things and if suddenly you have more whiskey today than yesterday, at will be easily noticed by you.
11. Pay particular attention if you notice her watching crime dramas on channels such as Investigation Discovery, ABC, NBC, CBS or any other network for that matter. If this interests her, it is only a matter of time.
12. Consider a rescue alert necklace for yourself. So as not to be so obvious, you may want to mention a recent doctors appointment and mutter something about high cholesterol.
At this point, if your significant other is seeing a psychiatrist, you should have already programmed his number in your cell phone and other phones in the house just in case. It never hurts to be on the cautious side when it comes to being informed about a loved ones condition.
I hope these suggestions are of some assistance to any of you should the situation arise. Hopefully you will never need them, but if you do, there they are. Good luck and watch your back!!

| I'm glad to hear that you are okay for the most part with no broken bones. The Vision is replaceable and it won't feel the pain of the bruising like you will in the coming days.
Looking at the damage in the pictures I am pretty sure they will consider it a total loss even if it's all just plastic. If you have the same insurance company for both your bike and your auto insurance you may have a problem collecting, especially if you didn't call the police. I had an issue with Markel American (BikeLine) after I slid my Vision into my truck while pulling into my own driveway in October of '09, they ended up paying but come renewal time they tripled my rate (first claim in 13 years of coverage!), I'm now with Progressive at a rate that is lower than what I was paying Markel before the driveway incident. |
