Well, the salvage yard picked up my 2004 55000+ mile Kingpin a couple of days ago. Very sad day. I crashed it merging on to the I10 just north of San Antonio. A Septic Tank vacuum truck had spilled its load just in front of me on the on ramp. That sh*t was slippery! Bike was trashed, I got that stuff all over me, but it did keep me from getting much road rash! I went through it just like an old Slip & Slide my kids used to have!

I loved that Kingpin, but have been eyeballing either the X-Country or the Vision for some time now. Just couldn't make up my mind, and really had no reason to rush the decision.

Well, it looks like I'll now be picking up my new 2011 Silver and Black Vision in a couple of weeks and riding it from the Denver dealership back home to San Antonio. I have to be there on business anyway, and they are giving me a pretty good deal.
I can't wait!!

Sorry about your ordeal, but at least your okay...I bought the silver/gray Vision a couple months ago...You will not be disappointed...What a great ride and handles like a dream...I used to live in Denver and loved the place..Got moved to Detroit area years ago....What a let down compared to Colorado, but after many years got used to it...Just don't go anywhere near Detroit....Ride home safe......

Well, this board has helped to seal the deal. I think for immediate upgrades for the ride back, I'll have them put on the lowers and drivers backrest. I already have a GPS and mount that I like. Any other really important suggestions?

Sorry to hear you took a dump and left skid marks. But it sounds like you wiped the deal clean. Congrats on your new throne!

We are lucky to be riding a machine that doesn't need much upgrading to run great, look great or ride great. I would do either the Stage 1 Level 1 exhaust upgrade or reverse. Other upgrades you can do later and yourself. Congrats on your purchase.!

If you go with the lowers, make sure you do not ride the bike for at least 48 hours after installation...They will not adhere properly and you run the risk of them falling off along the road as many on the board have said..In Michigan we do not get that many hot days for me to spend the money...I do not personally like the looks of them and will probably not buy....But, those that have them seem to be happy with the air flow options...
Again, Good Luck

Just curious what the backrest is costing you. I'd like to put one on my 2010 too

Thanks, that's good advice. I'll make sure they have them on at least a couple of days before I pick it up. Those things are sort of spendy for what they consist of. I'd be pretty mad if they just blew off.

I'm sure I'll do the stage one at some point in the near future. The reverse is something that I might seriously consider after they have them out for a year or so.

I'm not really sure, but I know it's too much! I'm getting a really good deal, much better than I can get anywhere around where I live. I just told them what I wanted, and they gave me their best "out the door" price. I haven't seen the itemized list. It's just much better than anyone else I've been able to find.

I looked at a few different makes and I just decided to go with the factory for simplicity sake. I'm picking it up in Denver and leaving for San Antonio the same day so I don't want to screw around with aftermarket stuff that I've not been able to put my hands on.

Enjoy your new Vision, but for goodness sakes, avoid Septic Tank Vacuum Trucks...just curious, did they take the accident report from a distance from you?

cchristo,

What a bummer about the Kingpin. Thank goodness you are OK.

In a month or two I am going to make a run up to Three Sisters and back to SA. Let me know if you want to go along.

Stupidly, I didn't call the police. I was pretty much OK, and would did not know the logo or anything about the vacuum truck. After we bent a bunch of stuff back to a somewhat useable condition, I was able to nurse it back home.

And yes, I've developed a whole new level of respect for those trucks. I always see the signs on the backs of those trucks saying "not responsible for windshield damage" when they haul rocks and stuff. I don't remember ever seeing a similar sign on one of those vacuum trucks though!

Hey Radio teacher, I ride it once or twice a year, and always thought it would be nice on a Vision. Let me know when. If I'm not out of town, I'll probably be up for it!

I'm getting the IPod connector, probably wait on the pegs, put them on myself later. I had a beaded seat in my truck for a while, but my bony butt just never really liked it. I'm thinking maybe a sheepskin.

Here's my tentative route but I'm wide open for suggestions. Pretty much staying off the major roads until I hit Eastern New Mexico. A lot is going to depend on if I am by myself or two up. I'll probably leave around noon on a Friday and need to be back to work by Tuesday morning.

I'm getting excited now! Put the deposit down today. Maroon 2011, IPod cord, Backrest, and Lowers. Pick it up in Denver and ride it back to San Antonio in a couple of weeks. Yeah Baby!
