I own a 09 Vision Tour Comfort with the S & S 114 kit. I have a five year limited warrenty on him. My dilema is this @ $200. a pop for the service @ 2500 mile intervals it is getting costly to operate. Oil and plugs being changed @ this interval not cost effective as these items are no where near their expiration.

I'd like to hear some feedback from other Vision owners who run stock or modified just to get an idea of what they have for oil & plug changes and any other service needs that I should be aware of. I have my basic owners manual but the info there is strickly geared towards frequent servicing of your motorcycle.

All feedback welcome. Ride safe and God bless.

New to the Vision but with all my other rides I have always changed the oil/oil filter on the 5's 5k, 10k, 15k, etc. And plugs? You change the spark plugs? Why? They should last 50k miles plus. Lastly, are you using the dealer and his prices? Do it yourself or find a good, friendly wrench. I never use the dealer unless it's warrenty stuff. Oil change and filer $85 max

Plugs are every 30k . Oil is 2500 miles for visions 08-10. 2011 is 5k miles. $200 is insane !!!!

In the summer here in Southern Nevada with temps routinely 100+ I could see 3K on the oil. I agree with 5K in the winter time. I bought 5 qts of Royal Purple oil and when I brought the bike back I said to the "shop" "your not gonna dump my oil are you"? They said they must, and boy was I pissed!!!! Rotella oil has been getting good reviews on this forum that may be the direction I go. I use Victory sin. now and the bike sounds loud at start ups.

Thanks for your feedback.

Do it myself... Not only does it save the funds (for more crap that I really don't need)... I know it is done right!

By all means, do it yourself and save your receipts and keep a maintenance log. They'll have to cover your warranty if anything goes wrong. Keep a good relationship with a dealer so you'll have a good backup. But my experience says unless you do something out of the ordinary, like exhaust modifications without the proper flash update, or use some snakeoil additive, you'll never use your warranty for the engine.

Cap'n Nemo is right... and thats exactly what i did when i had my 2008 Vision. I changed all the oil myself including the 1st oil change, and i saved all paperwork showing that i bought the oil and filter. Then i just filled out the owners manual page with mileage and dates of when i changed it. When i had warranty work done i was NEVER hassled about it, and when i traded my 08 for the 11 last year the new dealer i bought it fron was even impressed i had all the records. He said NO one does that. but because i did the extended warranty will transfer to the next person with no problems. And it even helped my resale...

I lay on the garage floor and with amsoil at 10.95 a quart I change my oil. As the runs out i have a rag and maybe some cleaner and clean every thing I can.
I really enjoy it cleaning some that I love so much. Change the filter wix from the auto store 6.59 as long as I'm on the floor I check the air in the rear tire. Yes look at the rear brake pads and check every thing up front. It just a nice way for me to play with the bike. So it take a hour or hour and a half I don't care its just plain fun.
Guys get worried about there warranty when in all reality Vic has to prove in court that you or the part did something wrong.
Keeping a diary on your bike is great. I put in mileage trips yes spark plugs every other year I mean 10 bucks for to plugs big deal.

Keeping a log I think is called due dilegence. That is, if there is any rebuttal, they want to know if you did due dilegence to maintain your machine. A log would dispute anything they would have against honoring the claim. Absolutely necessary? No. Help to process things quicker if things were in question? Yes.

Here is what my dealer does (that I have never wasted a minute on) that is critical to warrantee as well as safety and peace of mind.

I trust that all you folks saving a few bucks are doing this - and recording those results as well ????

2000 Victory SC and 2008 Victory Vision. Oil and filter changes done by myself at 5000 mile intervals using 20W-50 Amsoil and WIX 51356 filters on both. The prices have gone up a bit, and the oil changes now cost me $7.85 per quart and $4.44 per filter. Sign up as a preferred customer with Amsoil and get 25% discounts. It costs a bit over $40 (after adding in shipping) for oil and filters that are good for 5000 to 6000 miles in a Victory. The SC is stock except for a D&D pipe and chip. The Vision has a few of Lloydz goodies so that it can show it's taillights to Harleys and Goldwings.

If you're using Victory oil, you better change it at 2500 miles, at least according to both my bikes.

Plugs don't need to be changed very often. Maybe every 30,000 miles or so.

the price on their oil was good. but they labor was B.S.!! they said they check the suspension? HOW.. just looking at it.. i seriously doubt they removed anything to actaully "check" it as thats very time consuming. and checking the lights? shot you can do that in 1 min.. turn them ON and see if they work.. sounds like they nickel and dimed you.. im not against dealers. mine is good. mine gives free inspection for life and free 1st service.... but your dealer was looking for reasons to rack up that bill basically al the extra things they did besides the oil change, you could do in 5-15 mins.. and the oil change on a vision is one of the easiest i have ever done in all my bikes i have owned..

what is a value to one, is not a value to another, and so be it. The dealer will almost always charge 1 hour of labor unless it is under 15 minutes, and they can do that. I won't get into the rant and rave of the equatity of this but any mechanic shop will charge you 1 hour of labor, even if it something minor. $110 for an hour of labor is steep compared to here which is around $85 but that is not much of a difference. What a man chooses to do with his money is his business, and if he is able to do without quams, what is that to you and I.

Excuse me now while I go change the oil in my jeep, $25 in parts and a half hour of my time, but wait, the dealer would have done it for $30 with a coupon including parts and labor, boy did I make a bad decision! Next time, it is to the dealer with a coupon....

I break down the cost as follows:

Laziness on my part...................... $50.00 (Gravity SUCKS - and the older you are - the harder it SUCKS)

Peace of mind re warrantee ........... $25.00 (You guys do ALL my service - if there's a problem - it's VICTORY'S problem)

2 hour rental on new Victory.........   $35.00 (dealer always provides a bike for me to 'go have lunch or something')

Bullshitting with the boys in the shop about non-existant problems with drain plugs, oil leaks with oil filters, etc...  PRICELESS!

Don, the comments are priceless. Like usual, I do 99% of my own wrenching! Why, because I have limited amount of funds to do all the things I enjoy. I go 5k to7.5k Between changes and over 50k on the odo. Rotella and six shake hands daily.

You telling me you're just "A CHEAP BASTARD ??? "

After all the intellectual thought that I believed you put into your massive number of resposes ... you're just CHEAP!

You buy "The Rolls Royce" of motorcyles - then be 'cheap'?

Pretenders, pretenders - "Sell your 'real' motorcyles and go back to HD's, or Honda's or Beemers - leave the BEST to those of us who CARE !

And let the DEALERS look after them!

P.S. VICTORY (I will accept any payment for this endorsement....)

i did the same exact thing to my brakes on my vision last month and then the brakes on my car. my car needed new rotors (4) and pads. Honda wanted $460 + tax for rotors and then $140 for the pads. plus $94 a hour for labor and they dont charge for how long it actually takes either. the job was going to cost, close to $700-$800 at the Blessed Dealership.. i got the oem pads, but then bought the rotors from Napa for $100 for ALL 4 ! the parts guy working for honda said alot of time they use napa when they dont have something in stock & the customer needs it right away. so the point of this was. my ending price was Under for all new brakes all the way around was under $250, the price of just (2) rotors from honda... LOL

Whats that saying? A Penny saved is a Penny Earned? and if you can do something yourself why act helpless?
