Well I sold my harley and bought a Vision because i love the ride and comfort. Now after 200 miles its leaking like a siv! Not sure if its serious or not.......but i pulled in for gas yesterday and looked down and oil was covering the primary cover and down both sides of the bike on the saddlebags. I limped it 100 miles home to make sure i didnt ruin the motor. After two hours of cleaning oil off of it, i restarted it and took it for a short drive. The oil is coming out of the rear cylinder where the two jugs join. Idling around town its fine, but on the highway its spewing it out like crazy. Naturally the dealer is 90 miles from me and they will not be open until tuesday. Just what i wanted a new bike that has to be rebuilt! My harley buddies will not let me live this one down! Wonder what the dealer will say or do????? Dont get me wrong....I love the bike! Terrible way to start my first post. Wish me luck!

Take it back to the dealer. They need to fix it ASAP.
I understand your second thoughts, but the Vision is a great bike.
If it is a new bike with only a few hundred miles, then maybe they will give you a new one??

What do you mean, "where the two jugs join"? Are you referring to the bottom of the rear cylinder were it meets the crankcase? Or ?

There appears to be a gasket sandwiched between the upper and lower part of the rear cylinder. It looks like its a two part jug. Its not leaking up top around the rockers, and its not leaking around the lower area where they attach to the case. Right in the middle of the cylinder just below where the exhaust connects.

Take it back for warranty work, my 09 seeped a little oil (never enough to drip on the ground). They ended up replacing most of the motor. There were small pits and pores in the casing that apparently wouldn't let the gasket seal. I would have thought that would have been resolved by the time the 2011s came out. Whatever it is they will fix it.

It will be Saturday before i can get it to them. I hope it will make the 90 mile trip. I may have to trailer it. Either way im probably without a bike for a while. This dealership is new to Victory. They have only been selling them for a year. I hope they know what they are doing!

That's the headgasket area you're referring to. Its where the cylinder head mates to the cylinder. That gasket is one big beefy part so I wouldn't think it would leak on its own unless someone neglected to torque the headbolts or one of the castings is defective in the sealing area. That is one big bummer. It is possible to get the valve cover off with the engine in the frame like when changing cams but I doubt anyone can get the head off without pulling the motor. That's one small advantage that Harley has, you can take the entire top end of the motor apart without removing the engine. I'm real sorry to hear this one.

Is it possible that its leaking from the breather hose located right behind the rear cylinder? How about from the rear chain tensioner? That's the big silver nut looking device at the right rear of the rear cylinder. That thing would make a helluva mess. See if its tight. It has an aluminum washer underneath it.

Yeah i checked both those areas, i was really hoping for something simple. I degreased the hell out of it and had it as clean as new when i took it out for a spin today. Just riding around about 40 to 50 it seems ok, but as soon as i got it out on the highway it starting spewing it out. I pulled over to check and its certainly leaking from that middle gasket, the head gasket right below the exhaust. Thanks for the info!!

One thing that bothers me is it didnt leak on the way home from the dealer. Thats a 90 mile run. I would think if its a cylinder problem or defect, it would have leaked from the beginning. Im really leary of my dealer pulling the motor out of it.

your dealer will contact victory and victory will tell them how to trouble shoot it. (pretty easy according to what your telling us) and then they will be informed what needs to be done to correct the problem.

Thanks for the replys! I have done a bit of research online about this and it does not seem to be a common problem. The only other one i read about, the dealer got the guy a new bike. This was a 09 model.

Kingr25,

It is a very rare issue that you have there. I have a 2008 Vision and have been watching and reading about the 106 Freedom engine since it came out. This the first I have heard of a leak in that area.

Let the dealer fix it and you will be fine. Too bad it will have to be in the shop and not on the road for a time. Let us know how long it takes to repair.

Rare for this to happen on a Vic. Not only would I get it to the shop, make them give you a loaner bike while they fix it. It will do two things, 1) give you some riding enjoyment. 2) you'll have some collateral that will help your bike get fixed quicker, they won't want the loaner bike on the showroom floor for too long. Hope everything works out. Welcome to Victory

I seriously doubt they can just give out a Untiltled, Unregistered & Uninsured motorcycle out as a loaner. Not only that but they wont be able to sell it as a New motorcycle and there for take a hit on the price. (its not the dealers fault the vision leaks) The responsiblity of the dealership only comes back to them Fixing it and Not giving a loaner bike. Unless something was signed saying they give a loaner while your bike is being serviced.

Good luck with your dealings with Polaris... they'll tell you that this "is normal" for this bike and that you must have done the break in incorrectly. LOL

My dealer gave me a loaner when he was working on my bike. It was their demo bike . . . signed it out just like I would for a test drive. They did make a copy of my DL though. Kept it for 4 days. Never hurts to ask.

you were lucky. there are 6 victory dealerships with in 70 miles of me and None of them give loaner bikes, because none of them have a demo bike just sitting around. that would be nice if they did.

Doubt it . . . I think they will do everything possible to get it fixed . . . quietly.  The strongest thing Vic has going for it is the dependability of their engines.  Just the visual picture in people's minds of oil spewing out of the engine block is a common picture for HD, but not so much for a Vic.  I hope the new dealer knows how to handle the situation with Mother Vic.
