I went and test rode the new Indian Chief Vintage, a very nice bike to say the least. Put a deposit down on one and hope to see it sometime in September.

Ingle51,

How tall are you and how was the legroom?  Any handlebar/knee issues in a full-throw u-turn?  The handlebars look so low.

Damn, I kinda hope the Chieftain will be good for a 6'7" rider like my 08 Vision. I'm not holding my breath, just hoping.

Here's the Indian I always wished had happened, the best of two worlds and it could have saved them both. http://socalvoc.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/vindian.jpg

Yep that is a Vincent engine. I've seen pics of several of these hybrids. Bet it was faster than any Indian ever made, Well till the 2014's that is. There is a Modern Vincent being made in New Zealand. It's called the Irving Vincent and is made in three configurations. 1300cc 2 valve, 1600cc 2 valve and a monster 1600cc 4 valve that makes 185 HP.........Smoking, but they are NOT touring bikes.

Wow!, if you look at the naked Indian real close, you can almost make out the Victory logo. Hide the engine and I'd have to do a double take.

O Yeah, looking at the wheels, brakes, shock absorber, drive pulley, swingarm and exhaust system you can see Polaris all over that. AND Polaris made bikes all started with and was learned from production of Victory. But what did we expect ?? It means to me it'll be a sturdy ride.

Double Vision - 2013-08-19 6:14 AM The Vision is definitely a big man's machine. We'll see about the Chief & Chieftain.

Well, the more I look at the Chieftain, the more it looks like the size of my old Kawasaki 1600 Nomad.  Staying with the 08 Vision doesn't suck since 1. It's paid for, and 2. It has more chrome than the current Vision.

I stand 6 even, the saddle was pretty low so short people shouldn't have any issues. The floor boards aren't quite as long as my Vision but I never felt cramped. No problem with the handle bars but they do resemble beach bars to a degree. Wasn't able to do any sharp U-turns because we had to follow the leader in the test ride. Riding over the bridge grates the bike tracked straight with no squirm at all. The brakes were great even in the wet, we did have a few light showers. I rode the bike with my wife on the back and she thought it rode very smooth, very little vibration for the speeds we were at, one point got up to 55 but had to reign it in at the foot of the bridge. I let the engine lug down real low then rolled the throttle up. It surprised my wife and she had to grab my waist with the sudden get up and go. That engine is a charmer to say the least. Shifts are quiet as are the gears at least 1st through 4th. Even with the temps in the high 80's to low 90's the engine heat is very manageable but don't ride wearing shorts. I'm looking forward to getting one in my garage to keep some time in September. I put a deposit down the Monday after the unveiling in Sturgis.

Did you guys notice that the Indian parts fiche is up already! I was looking at the rear suspension, they did it different than ours. It has the same type of linked shock but the shock looks to be in front of the link instead of along side of it. Kinda fun just looking at the pieces. Well, fun for me anyway :-)

It was a good ride, rode the Chieftain. The thing that really impressed on this bike is the 111 Thunderstroke!

I'm very interested to see what kins of numbers this engine makes on the dyno. Should know as soon as CycleWorld or MotorCyclist does a full test. Maybe in the next two months issues...........

I've heard that too. Very Impressive for a stock EPA engine............

I'm telling you, this engine impressed me. You almost can't be in the wrong gear. You know how our Vision 6th gear is an overdrive gear, not really meant for passing. You can pass in 6th on the Chief . 6th pulls like any other gear.

Gawd I DO NOT NEED ANOTHER motorcycle. But I am really liking the Vintage Indian. If I was to buy it, I'd have all that crazy assed leather fringe strips on the floorboards as well.

Just my opinion, I like the Indian bikes, however they are just your same ol style, with a up dates and the Indian flare ( cool fenders and leather) now my vision on the other hand is just plain BAD ASS , to use a passer bys description, as he walked by it, the look is unique and the way it handles cant be beat by anyother tour bike or bagger, I just got the cam upgrade, and wow I love it. I rode threw a thunder storm and the vision did not wabble or make me feel uneasy, while riding threw a lot of water. I will take a test ride on the Indians, how ever the earley opinions of vision riders, makes me think they are just the same ol bikes, with wind management issues, cramped seating area and all, so we will see. This is just my opinion, but I think I already have the best bike out (except the front fender lol, it too will be fixed)

my vision has also been described that way by a young admirer. It surprises me how many young people think it looks cool. This guy was in his 20's
