Not really into wind much but I'd get used to it. Still be cool to work for MaVic.

You started the wandering with your incorrect statement about 'black being the fastest color' - after reading that my attention span was directed to righting-a-wrong.

Since they usually introduce at the Long Beach IMS show in California and it is 3 weeks out with no news, I cam going to say no new bike.

There have some big introductions over the years at the NEW YORK IMS. The Vision, Core and Judge leap to mind.

Victory will introduce something in New York. It's just a question of whether it'll be a 2013/14 PartsBin or something more exciting.

Never mind that, I can't wait to see what the 2014 Polaris Indians will look like. If they come out with a new Inline 4 someone will have to throw a bucket of ice water on me.

I can't see anything but a revamped twin in the Indians as the entire line is all about old school. Modern technologies I can see but not something as "radical" as that. I hope they don't add a partbin bike. They did that with the last 2.

An inline 4 is very old school! Indian made one for a few years as did ACE, Excelsior and Henderson. Not an inline 4 like a sportbike but "think" Triumph Rocket III with one more cylinder. The Rocket III is 2300cc and delivers the most torque of any motorcycle. It would give Indian a huge performance advantage over HD and not compete with Victory.

I am guessing the new Indians will offer the same old V-Twin, but also a sportier version powered by something else. Their snowmobile and quads have alot of power, they could design something around an already existing engine. It would be crazy to see Polaris on the race track!

I've seriously thought about a Rocket III as a second or third bike.

I believe polaris will hold the Indian name here on out, and that is what it is, the name and the essence of it. The last Indian built was in 1953 from the original days. Indian had a steller run that resonates even today, thus the renditions of resurrections. The Indian name has been on many two wheel transporations, such as mopeds. With the Indian name back into American hands once again, the spirit of the Indian can continue and form from there. There will always be the old school Indians lovers and will hesitate to go beyond 1953. There are those who embellish the name Indian, no matter what form it has taken. Think old school, and I mean old school motorcycling, and you have Indian and Harley in the mix to compete against. Victory is not in that mix yet, so correct, there is no competition there, thankfully. Today's Indian is not a parts bin machine as it was with the Gilroy bikes. Had Gilroy held on another year or two, they might of had it right, but it became a two little to late deal. I've seen a few of the Gilroy bikes and they look tinny to me compared to the King Mountain and Polaris bikes, but they are Indians none the less. As far as the Rocket 3 I took a serious look at that bike but quickly looked away. With a seat height of 30 inches or so and a wide saddle, it may be a bike to ride, but it ain't one for me to stop on. It's possible that Victory may be cooling it's jets for a while after an aggressive campaign, Sturgis, etc, to make sure they remain prudent in their finances. They've got a strong hold, and they are becoming more well know because of the Cross Bikes, (thanks to the Vision, though) that the bikes we have now may be the ones we'll have for a while, except the Vision (sorry, I have to put that in there...).

Varyder said alot there and he's right on a bunch. Some Indian fans would still like to see a 80 inch flathead with towering aluminum head fins and that old softtail frame. Others a modern engine with overhead cams , fuel injection and all the modern bells and whistles. The 2013's are a mix. They dropped the BlackHawk, it was the most modern looking of the old KM Indian line up. Funny I saw Mike of american pickers riding one of these to Sturgis in one of the episodes. Whether he actually rode it from Iowa I don't know.
The 4 cylinder Indians from the old days are quite a piece of engineering from back in those days. Whether Polaris would drop the coin to develope such an engine is hard to say. It might be hard to package in a modern touring bike. I too have ridden one of the Triumph Rocket III's and it's a monster. 132 cu inches, hell it makes so much tourqe it could get by with a 3 speed tranny. It is big, tall and heavy.
Hopefully the new Polaris Indians will have a little more modern engine in the models than now, a pushrod longstroke 2 valve just dosen't cut it compared to other modern bikes. AND hopefully the Chiefs will get stereos and cruise controls to make them full blown touring rigs like they were in 1953 before the doors closed up in Springfield Mass.

The Rocket 3 has a ton of torque but handles like a wheelbarrow full of wet sand. And is butt ugly, IMHO.

You are right, it's hard to package a triple longitutal in the frame a four might even be harder........Now a V 4 that might be the way to go.......

The Rocket is a beast at 2300cc. A hot-rod straight 4 Indian could be 1200-1400cc and 150hp! A V-4 would be OK but in no way old skool or nostalgic.

Motus is BAD ASS! I'd have one, if I could afford it. Park it next to the V. Use it for shorter rides...

I was thinking of a V-4 packaged like a Yamaha V-Max. Just a longer stroke engine to make more Tq............ You know the "new" V-Max engine is 102 cu inches, and makes about 170 HP stock. Revs too high for a heavy touring rig though. just stroke it and bring the top revs down to 8000 then it would have the needed guts down at 2000.............
