Varyder I hope you reconsider..

I too have been not as proactive of moving Vendor posts to the proper forum.

To that end, I just discussed with Jeff some ideas and one thing I have implemented is something that I hope will encourage vendors to post in the Buy & Sell area without a moderator having to move it there...

On the front page now, in the middle, it shows the latest posts from Vendors. This accomplishes a few things.

  1. It helps our Vendors get onto the front page which rather than the forums is really where they should be.
  2. It encourages them to post in the Buy and Sell area as that is the only way those posts will appear on the front.
  3. Maybe if they see the value of being on the front page, they will decide to contribute for the larger Banner Ad program at the top of all pages.

This "seems" like a good idea so I went ahead with it.  It "seems" like it will be helpful to everyone.  Most people "land" on the front page then select the forums.  The front page has everything that is New.  Latest Articles, Latest Blogs, Latest photos (yes I know there is an issue with that at the moment), etc..  So why not the latest specials from the Vendors who participate here.

I hope this helps and I think I can speak for Jeff when I say thanks for the wake up that we need to be on top of things a little more than we have been lately.

Jeff and Miles,

This is a great site and as far as I am concerned well managed. There is always a balance in any type of situation where sales is involved. This site would not be possible without the sponsorship/vendor support. I have learned a lot from Varyder and wish he would continue with us here. I think he has shared everything down to the micro degree that he does not feel he has anymore to offer. I totally disagree but Chris needs to make his own decisions. Change is good but I see Chris returning home with the rest of the VR Brothers and Sisters in the future. I do wish him the best and will look him up if I am ever in the area. As always.....

I don't blame him, just look at the three page post debating a honda model. Seriously, a three page thread about a honda on a Victory website?

If there's an ad and I'm interested I click on it, if I'm not interested I don't click on it.

If I see a discussion on another brand of motorcycle and it looks ineresting I click on it and again if not I don't.

A lot of rules and censorship is better?

For the most part, unless there's a bunch of flaming/trolling going on, it shouldn't really matter.

Jeff and Miles, maybe you guys could "sponsor" VaRyder? I think a lot of us have learned a lot from him! He's as much a part of this community as Lloydz and Witchdoctor! Only thing is they pay you to advertise. Maybe you guys could assist him with some of the maintenance of his high mileage hobby? He knows everything we encounter because he has and will encounter it first. He's kind of like a one man research and development team. Whatcha think?

So melodramatic!! If you're not interested in the site, then just leave. Why need to announce it? Looking for hugs on your way out? Any forum regardless of content is based on group discussion, not a single person. If he wants to take his ball and go home, then let him. Too much time in front of a computer screen, not enough seat time. These are Vics for crying out loud. If this were a HD site, there break downs every day. Lots to talk about and get fixed over on that side of the fence. I find this post so hilarious!

I don't think anyone can accuse Chris of "not enough seat time"! Lol.

Yea, I have thought about this and I have to say I am disappointed Varydar is leaving and even more disappointed in his reason. THis has been a GREAT forum for a long time and still is. If there is something that you feel needs to change, advocate for the change and make that happen. It's not a static board by any means. But to just throw your hands in the air and leave is to give up on a great board. Hope you re-consider Varydar. But if you just leave without even making an effort to fix what you don't like, so be it.

He's only got 130,000 miles on his Vision. There are lots of vehicles with WAY more miles on them.....like semi trucks and airplanes. :D

Look at who you're responding to. Detroit and Flying Monkey Ass er Hawaiian. One of them just registered in February this year and the other obviously hasn't added much to the community by looking their post count. I know I'm not the most active, I come and I go. But I sure wouldn't come here and criticize others who support someone who has benefited nearly every member who has a question with his knowledge and a corresponding near 7k post count to prove it! It appears neither one of them know who the frick they are talking about.

That's the whole point!!! This is an online forum butt head! Just because I were to have 10,000 post makes me important in life? The point that someone has less posts then someone else makes them incompetent? For you to be bent out of shape because of an online post, or the loss of a top 5 poster deems you to have a pathetic life my dear!

TOO FUNNY!!

Oh for keerists sake... ya'll just let it go. Varyder deserves a little sendoff... though he'll be back. Last time, he couldn't make up his mind if he was going to get rid of his bike and get a Prius... but he kept his bike.

He does strike me as a wannabe independent soul... which he is in his own right.... he'll post again. We all do. :-)

Some of you that do not have any posts or history with Chris ???. Bite me, this site is a learning curve for those who have been here for a period of time; and for information from the Vets on this site. I have never seen any other site welcome new members in without the LA jump-in. Chris has been nothing but a benefactor to this blog. I will miss him but if you have never met him or had any conversations you need to shut your trap, myself included. Chris is a man first off and a Veteran and he should be honored and respected without question by any and all that know in my opinion. Do not address any options/comments at Chris as I am responsible for my comments and actions please do not hold back on your response?

Chris, Carry on Brother and I hope our path's meet in the future. I respect your decision but you will always be one I will contact when down in the SE, As I always say:

If you had near 10,000 posts, and even a quarter of them were relevant and helpful to the members of this forum, I wouldn't refer to you as flying monkey a$$. I'm not bent out of shape. I just have a little humility and think perhaps you could use some. I do find it funny when someone can come on this forum with little to add except to criticize others with more experience. I've seen it more than a few times. If I met you at a rally or something, I'd probably buy you a beer anyway though. Nothing personal. No hard feelings on my part. Cheers.

I just don't take online forums as serious as others. I have better things to do. C'mon, we live in a day and age where information can be found anywhere! I'm comfortable with myself and the friends I surround myself around. Why do you think I haven't been on this forum for so long? I simply choose not to.
No one needs to post a single thread to read that his post is a little self absorbed, immature and a self proclaimed king of the cyber world. I mean really, if someone doesn't like something then just leave. To actually make a statement that you are is just over the top melodramatic. Give me a break, I'm sure the guy is a great guy and all, but I'm just stating what others might want to say but was too afraid to do so. I really don't have an online life so its okay with me. I have other things that are more important to me in life than counting posts. Peace.

I have 'known' Chris for a couple of years, so for him to just disappear would have been reason for concern. Sometimes riders go down and you don't hear about it for months, and sometimes not at all, so I appreciate his goodbye.

Second, stating that "...information can be found anywhere" is not true. 130k on a Vision is unique, and this experience is what he shared.

Third, as baadawg alluded to, literally hundreds of his posts were helping members of this forum (including me). This is time he freely gave to help others. He does have a life - He rides, works, he cares for people in his life, but still made time to share his expertise, stories, and humor.

Take care, Capt' Ryder. I'm sure we will see you again

Well, let's not get out of hand here. Best to VAryder on whatever/wherever is computer takes him. He is a wealth of high mileage knowledge and his posts will not go away. He'll be missed but we are moving on and we'll take his concerns into consideration. I resist reading too much into his departure and hope to talk with him in person someday. We have plenty of other members that have provided great insight that are still here.

Move along, nothing to see.

An idea that might please all is a vendor section. This will keep all ads from vendors in one section. A buy and sell is a general section for all to post . Vendors need customers.... customers need vendors. Just a thought.
