Atom, Thanks for this I like the comparison you gave better than the one on andys blog . Its a tough choice between the bombs and level ones. They both sound good but the with bombs on my speakers you can really hear the bass rumble up well. Switching back and forth between video's was cool.

are the bombs so loud they will offend neighbors in the early AM? also how about long trips do they start to boom in your ears? Now that I have a bike with a stereo I want to hear it!

They are quite a bit louder and deeper sounding than the S1L1 or S1L2. Personally, I don't think they are obnoxious (well maybe at WOT they are). The sound output seems to be relative to the amount of throttle you are giving the bike. Most of the sound seems to go out to the sides and behind the bike. I'm still listening to the radio at the same volume settings...

Keep in mind if you use your stock tips you will be killing most of the sound benefit of these pipes (or the S1L1). The stock tips have a very small outlet hole for the exhaust. You will need to either buy fluted tips or remove the "guts" from your stock tips to get the full effect...

No more than the cycle dragons, ness honkers, thunder sticks or any other aftermarket pipe would. Victory would have to prove that the mufflers were the sole cause of the "failure". Not possible...

I have the S1L1 download, but after taking the baffles out of Tigger's S1L2 pipes, these maps have to be pretty close. They are both basically straight through type pipes. The S1L2 is straight through with a stamped-in baffle on the last third of the baffle. The S1L1 is split in the middle (chambered), but is also straight through. I'm sure Victory has programmed small differences in the maps for the two different pipes, but they have to be similar. In short, I'm willing to bet you that these pipes work great with either stage map...

Adam-

I'd be interested in how the sound changes after about 750 miles. Any chance you might be stacking on some miles within the next few weeks? And do a updated review then?

Did this bobvic give you any type of warranty against burn/blow out?

How do I get hold of this Bobvic? Email? Web site? Throw a rock at the back of his head?

I'll second your warranty answer. Nothing ever "voids" a warranty. Some add-on parts may possibly affect a warranty, but this is very very remote. Its up to the warranty provider to prove that whatever was changed somehow caused some type of failure. The burden of proof is on the warranty provider....period.

Email for Bob: BOBVICR@aol.com

Warranty? No warranty was expressed or implied, however, this was top quality work, the welds were perfect! He used a special packing, as a matter of fact, here was his answer to that very question:

"I use long strand ceramic glass it will not burn or blow out once it is broke in it takes about 500 mile to do this. The packing in the stock muffler could not be re packed as it was also welded in."

I have been piling up the miles (over 6K in two months) on this bike.

I put about 200 miles on them yesterday. Bob mentioned that they would probably get a bit louder as I put more miles on them, after the first 200, he's right, they are a bit beefier sounding already...

Hey 1atom12 - Give us the full review on the Atom Bombs. Did you have to redo the mapping? Did you do the reinstall yourself? The YouTube sounded great but I am sure it is better in person. Have you heard the Ness Big Honkers? Do they compare?

Full Review? I like em... I like em a lot!

Seriously though, having recently owned several Harleys, I could not stand not having a loud bike, I just like my bikes loud. These new pipes are nice and loud, but still allow for all day comfort in the saddle. They don't drone in your ear the whole time your riding. My radio is still set to the same volume as always (around 12-14). When I pass a car out on the road, the sound from the pipes echoes off the car I am passing and is VERY loud. These pipes really wake up when you are on the throttle, but settle down to something more sensible when cruising. At idle they are a bit louder than both the S1L1 and S1L2, but the are WAY louder once you crack the throttle.

I have not heard the Ness Honkers. I cannot compare. My pipes are a 2.25 inch straight through baffle design. If the Ness pipes have a larger baffle, they will be louder, if not, then these are louder. It's simple math, the larger the baffle, the louder and deeper the sound will be.

I left my S1L1 map and air cleaner and simply changed out the mufflers. The install was done by myself and two of my Vic riding buddies. Piece of cake. You have to remove the saddlebag lids and the plastic panels below them, but it's really pretty simple. I did have to shim one of my gatlin' tips with washers as the chrome shield for the muffler had a pretty big gap against the tip. Again, not a big deal, just took a bit of time...

BTW, congrats on your anniversary scoot and welcome to Vision Riders!!

Adam-

I'm going to have Bob recore my stocks. I've exchanged a few emails with him already. Mainly wanted to see if he had any interest in trading two new sets of V ROD mufflers for any part of doing my mufflers. He wants to, however he doesn't want to pay anywhere near what I can sell them on Ebay for. I understand his position on them. But anyways...I just noticed that the turn-around time from you shipping your stocks to him and him shipping them back to you was almost two months 8-11 to 10-9. Why such a delay? Was it on your end? Or Bob's end? Oh yea...he bumped the price a small amount up to $172 plus return shipping. This is ok with me. He did mention to you that they were a bit more labor time than he budgeted for.

Any idea what the diameters and design of the S1L1 or S1L2 pipes are? I think I'm going to have Bob knock mine down a size or two from what you did yours at. Besides the videos you posted I have not heard another Vision exhaust. I watched and listened to your videos at least 50 times each. I want to be in between the Tigger pipes and the "Atom Bomb" pipes. But I also love the deepness of the Bomb pipes though. Think by dropping a size I will still keep the deepness and also quite them down just a notch? What changes the deepness more? The diameter or the baffling? Same thing with loudness...is it in the diamter or the baffling? I'm so fricken confused...

I don't think I would go to a smaller baffle. The 2.25 inch seems perfect. Any smaller and you would start sounding like a level 1 or level 2 pipe. The 2.25s are really manageable noise wise until you crack the throttle. I don't think you will feel they are too loud. To me, the S1L1 and S1L2s are pretty quiet. Also, keep in mind what tips you are going to use. If you use the stock tips you will seriously cut down down on the loudness of the pipes. This may be the way to go. Go with the 2.25 inch baffles and use the stock tips. Best of both worlds. If you want it louder after you try it, you can modify your stock tips or buy the gatlin' (fluted) tips...

Hey 1atom12... I got the ATOM BOMBS on my Vision. The money I saved I also put on the Lloyds Fuel Pak and the K&N Air Filter with the Llyods intake plate. WOW...... The big boy bike is back on the rode. Better throttle response. AWESOME SOUND EXHAUST. For under $200 bucks for the exhaust you can not get any better bang for your buck. You just gotta do it. The baffle is the same size as the Ness Big Honkers at less than half the cost. Thanks BOB The MUFFLER GUY. The Vision just got faster. The dealer ship tells me that I should be around 110 horsepower with this upgrade. You can FEEL the power.

you send the stock mufflers out to have that work done to them and you do NOTHING else. do you need to have the fuel injection remapped.. Im asking cause my dealer will sell me a stage1 level 1 for $500 this includes that remapping card. If i have the muffler "done" and then have to purchase a vfcIII then the savings arent that great and with the stage 1 level 1 i dont void my warranty unlike when using a VFCIII .. i wanted to hear opinions on just that muffler mod..

A VFCIII will not void your warranty. The manufacturer (Victory) would have to prove that the VFC caused the failure of whatever it was that broke. All the VFC does is add additional fuel to the bike at various RPM ranges. You also have the option of just buying the S1L1 or S1L2 flash card for $120 and have the dealer flash it with a "Victory approved" map. That's the way my bike is set up right now. I have the S1L1 flash, air cleaner and the Atom Bombs. Bike runs fantastic...

ejwunder, glad your liking them. Wait till you get some miles on them. The sound really gets mean...

what if you DONT have the high flow air filter and you are just running the stock air filter with the AB mufflers, do you still need a new fuel map since you arent adding more air? Im just trying to weigh out my options and to be honest hassles.

Unless you change the 'Air In' you shouldn't need to remap...an exhaust change shouldn't be an issue!
