Hey Smitty,
I lost my entire family between 2000 and 2004, I know how and what you are feeling. I truly do. I can only offer you this,
Never assume someone knows that you love them, and how much you love them. Spend time telling them until they are sick of
hearing it. Whatever time the two of you have or dont have, USE IT. Sit in the yard in the grass, eat things you two have never eaten before, try and do but most of all t a l k . The peace of mind that I have is that somehow, that message came to me, and I did it. It was the best 4 years of my life. I wont say God bless you buddy, because its redundant, he already does.
So I will say that we, your friends bless you. Love to Regina, a treasure in your life.

Smitty my heart and prayers go out to you and your wife, when it comes to time dont believe the finality of what they say, I have walked in your shoes my wife fought Ovarian Cancer for seven years and I can't count how many times they told us she only had a few months. When it comes down to it only God knows . Because of her stubornness not to believe in what they said she was able to stay with me many more years than what the Doctors said was possible and just recently ( Feb 9th) stepped through to the next part of her journey. I feel blessed to have that time, our miracle was to have that added time maybe Regina's will be complete remission. What ever path this journey takes you the whole victory family of Brothers and Sisters are there for you. I found that out when I was in need and I felt all alone. Not just here but on VOG And VRC, were all here for you Brother. Your Love has endured for 41 years and that's as strong as any doctors words. By the way my Wife's older sister was diagnosed with Glioblastoma and told she had six months, that was 3 and a half years ago.
My Prayers and added strength go with you.
Bob
P.s. if you need someone to talk to or just to vent drop me a line I'll be there bob5219@mac.com

"And their prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make them well. And anyone who has committed sins will be forgiven. Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and wonderful results."
James 5:15-1

May GOD bless you and Regina Smitty. Please keep us posted so we all can share the miracle with you.

Prayers and my wonderful sense of humor go out to you. They say laughter is the best medicine, sometimes I think better living through modern pharmacuticals works wonders too. I would say, "Smitty, enjoy what you got, focus on now, live in this moment, not the one 3 days, 3 months, 3 years, 13 years, etc. from now! That the only difference between someone knowing they have a terminal disease and someone who doesn't but still meets their end at the same time, is that they got a knock on the door, letting them know, they better get busy doing all the things they have ever wanted to do." Except, really the only line I would change would be the part with "Smitty" in it. Change that to "We, Us, Vision-pilots, etc"!!!!

"Live today for today, there are no repeats!" This is at the bottom of my e-mail signature. I try to spread it everywhere I go, it is a motto I try to live by.

I tell my wife I am terminally ill, that is why I don't get all worked up over things, projects are still undone in my garage, The grass in my yard was 3 feet high (I live in the country). However, my youngun's ask me to play ball, or swim, or ride bicycles or even take them for a spin on my Vision (primary wife request). I just about drop what I am doing and go interact with them, because, it is important. Unfortunately, my yard grass won't miss me, I spend enough time with it, you would think it would.

This is of course just a personal opinion, legal disclaimer.

I will pray for you and the wife, right now!

Smitty,

I was riding to work this afternoon and "Bridge Over Troubled Water" came on the XM about 5 miles into my 20 mile commute.  I set the cruise exactly on the speed limit (which I never do because traffic runs at least 10-15 mph over), cranked the radio up and thought of your family.  During the five minutes that song was on, nobody passed me or pulled out in front of me.  It's a six lane highway with on-ramps every mile.  It's like I had a 50 yard bubble around me.  About one minute into the next song I was swallowed up in traffic and had to roll-on just to keep from getting run over.

It was a surreal five minutes.

Peace.

Smitty:

I have been trying to write a reply to your post for about a week now. I wish there was something I could say that would help the way you must be feeling; but everything I write seems trivial in the face of your situation.

I do know a little of what you are going through. My first wife Beth died in 1998 after an 8 year battle with breast cancer. I re-married and my wife Linda is currently treating for Non-Hodkins Lymphoma .

I have tried over the last 19 years to submit myself to the tender mercies of the medical industry and to live in the moment. Try to pack as much good into the day as you can, treasure your time together (no matter how difficult it becomes) and do what you have to to live without regrets. There is nothing worse than coming out the other end of this process and feeling as if you didnt do something you should have.

I was not raised a religious man and praying does not come to me naturally; but I will honor your request. My thoughts and prayers are with you and Regina.

Smitty, I lost my darling Gail - our 45th anniversary while she was in the hospital.... that kind of loss is incalcuable. I feel your pain but sometimes the relief from the pain is the best God can offer - for the both of you. My prayer is that your co-pilot rides again. But you have to stay strong for her. I will be praying for you both - hang in.....
