Ok. Don't laugh at this question. I'm old and have not kept up with all the dongles (whatever they are) and other stuff that either uses or doesn't use wires. I just bought an 06 KP with loud pipes and a Hoppe fairing. There is a stereo in it but once I go over 35 I can't hear it. I wear a helmet and I'm hard of hearing. I have a Vision with a cord that plugs into the bike and hear the stereo and CB just fine.

Is there a device I can get or a radio I can change to that will bluetooth to my speakers in my helmet? Will I need new helmet speakers and or a new radio? Is there such a thing out there? Will the cost be ridiculous? Please answer in 3rd grade terminoligy so I can understand your answers. Thanks

Think of bluetooth as nothing more than "wireless wires". Disregarding all the gee whiz technology and features, all it really does is take the place of the wires that would go between your radio, cellphone, cd player, mp3 player, heck, even your 8-track, and your headphones.

You have a few options if you want to go wireless bluetooth. A word of warning though..... Bluetooth can be a little finicky at times. With wired headsets, at least you can just look and see that you forgot to plug the cord in!

Cost wise, it can get a bit spendy depending on what you want.

If you don't need an intercom to talk with your passenger or other riders, you can have good quality music for under $100.00.

I think the easiest way to get music into your ears is with an Ipod or some other mp3 player. You can get them with an FM receiver too. Unless you've got a fatter wallet than me, just get a used one from a pawnshop, ebay, or wherever.
You don't need the bluetooth option, just put the player into your pocket, run the ear bud wire up your shirt, and you're good to go. Of course, this method relegates your mounted stereo to being just ballast on your forks but you can still listen to it in the garage, or when you're parked somewhere.

This is going to give you the absolute best sound you're going to be able to get on a bike. A bonus is that you can get very good, well fitted earbuds that actually reduce wind and road noise quite a bit, just like earplugs. It'll help slow the hearing loss.

If you don't want the wire up your shirt, or flapping in the wind, you can get bluetooth adapters for the mp3 player. They just snap right in to the bottom of the player. You'll also need an A2DP compatible bluetooth stereo headset receiver.

Now, if you just have to use your mounted stereo for some reason, it can get a bit more complicated. You'll still need the A2DP compatible headset, but you'll need to figure out a way to transmit the bluetooth signal from your radio. If you're lucky, your stereo has a headphone jack. If that's the case you can just get a bluetooth transmitter dongle that plugs in to it. You're good to go.

If it doesn't, you'll need to wire a bluetooth transmitter in to the stereo pre-amp out on the back of the unit if it has one. If it doesn't, you'll need to wire a line level converter in to your speaker outs on the back of the stereo, and then wire the bluetooth transmitter in to that. You'll still have sound going to your speakers though, unless you rig up some sort of switch to turn them off when you're listening through your headset.

I'm not aware of any car/bike in dash stereo that has a built in bluetooth transmitter.

If anyone knows a simpler way, I'm all ears!

(edit) I just realized that you already have speakers in your helmet. You can probably modify the bluetooth reciever and headset to work with your existing speakers. Just cut the the earbuds off, wire in the appropriate plug, and plug your speakers in to the bluetooth receiver.

Do you want to run the same technology on both bikes? Since you are already hardwired on the Vision, do you want to do another helmet just for the KP for bluetooth? I personally think the KP radio should be forgotten about... If it were me, I would get the J&M Integratr. This would allow you use your existing helmet with speakers and and be a heck of a lot more flexible than trying to rig up the existing radio.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks CChristo and ScoreBo for the replies. I think the easiest way to go is the J&M Integratr. The Vision is all set. As for the KingPin, I'd hate to spend a lot of $$ since it is basically a knock-around-town bike and all of my cash went into the looks. I guess I need to contact J&M and see what cord I need to adapt my to my Victory headsets. Dang cords cost as much as the unit itself. I'd also like a handlebar mount and a 12v adapter. While I'm at it maybe a new Ar-15 & Colt 1911. Anyway, thanks for the help and I sure appreciate your expertise.

Necktie,

Like you, I can never have enough Colt products....or products from Smith & Wesson, Glock, Springfield Armory, Ruger, Taurus, Beretta and Winchester. I guess you can add Victory, Cycle Ops, Utopia, Clearwater, J&M, Fender, Gibson, Martin, Takemine, Line 6 and others to the list.

Thank God for my wife or I would not have any money in the bank.

Radioteacher, I like your list! I do have to admit that the Martins and Springfields are sort of out of my league though! I've burned through 3 different digital multi-effects. I'm back to basic DOD pedals. And an old-ass 1973 Treynor 2X12 tube with only the clean channel still operational!

J&M tells me that to use the Intrgratr IV I have to use their headsets as the Vic ones won't adapt. That will put me at about $300. It may have to wait as I need a fuel contoller and a dyno test first. My KP has cams and Basani pipes but no FC so it isn't up tp par on power. Thanks for all the input and when my money tree bears more fruit i will go with the Intergratr IV.

I added a Bluetooth dongle to my Vision. I have written about it elsewhere on here. It connected to the rear audio harness where the CD player would connect. It stays in my trunk and is powered by a Powerlet cord to USB micro. Works great. I shutoff the speakers in the radio. My headset volume control works, the radio one does not. The audio signal from the harness is constant to the Bluetooth dongle.

Hey Winchey, I did something similar. There is a detailed write up and pictures in the Vision Tech Reference section.

Couple of questions for you......
What Bluetooth transmitter are you using?
Where specifically did you tap into the harness
What receiver are you using?

Thanks
