Blanchester, OH | For those of you who have installed the Hitch-Doc Hitch, how did you handle the safety chains or cables from the trailer? I have searched and no one has talked about this. Any help or ideas would greatly be appreciated. |

Anderson, IN (48mi NE of downtown Indianapolis) | There are two U-shaped brackets on each side of the hitch (they are part of the Hitch-Doc). I hook the chains on them. |

PINELLAS PARK, FL. | DITTO ON THE CHAINS. JUST MAKE SURE YOU GET THE LENGTH OF THE CHAINS CORRECT, SO IF THE TRAILER COMES LOOSE, THE TONGUE WILL NOT TOUCH THE GROUND. WORST CASE, IT WILL BANG UP THE BACK OF THE BIKE, BUT YOU DON'T WANT IT TO CATCH THE GROUND. |

| Don't use them, if the trailer comes loose believe me you want that thing away from u and not tied to u that loose. Riding with a bunch of friends one had his trailer come loose and caused him to wreck causing major damage to him and his bike. |

That was a result of a m/c pulling a trailer? |

| We here at shop pull trailers all the time with trucks and vans we do hook up safety chains and brake locks on all them but motorcycles pulling a trailer is a different ballgame. |

If you lose a m\c trailer, and it causes injury to a third party, you are liabile. If you don't have or fail to hook up the saftey chains in most jurisdictions you are negligent and its going to cost you or your carrier or both.

In most states a trailer is required to have safety chains, and be hooked up, and crossed under the tongue, regardless of what you are pulling it with. Don't think that being a motorcycle dude releases you from and criminal or civil liability. Contrary to popular belief, motorcyclists don't have a 'license to kill'. |

| In Texas you can get a $500 dollar fine if your safety chains are not crossed or X on truck car or bike. That way if and pay to God it don't but if it comes loose it will fall into a cradle.

| Back to the original question of where to hook uo the chains in the main plate of the hitch there are 2 holes which will accept the 3/8 shank of an eye bolt. This is where I hook my chains. Also I used a solid eyebolt not a split ring. I leve the eyebolts in all the time and you can hardly see them. |

Bolivar Missouri | My 2 cents worth . To go along with the criss cross of the chains , along with tongue weight as an important factor to keep the trailer from doing a wheelie should the unthinkable happen . |

Looks like gold center line paint speckles attached themselves too ...lol!

Barefoot Bay, FL United States | I have the Hitch Doc, and where 'Thomas' has the eyebolts bolted to the hitch, I have a chrome plate that came with the Hitch Doc. It is bolted into the same holes, but is a 'u' shaped chrome bracket with an eyehole on each end for the chain hooks to hook into. Pretty simple, just make sure the chain its the right length so the tounge will "cradle" into the crossed chains, and NOT hit the ground. |
