Seriously thinking about switching to Metzlers on the next set of tires I get...Has anybody been running them?

I ride 99% one up, don't carry much stuff, so the load rating I don't think would be an issue....Just want a better (or more consistent) type tire...The E3's seem t change with temp and weather conditions to much....

Haven't tried them on my Vision but had good luck with them on my Royal Star Venture and Kawasaki Voyager XII. Only issue was minor cupping on the rear.

I am on my second set of Avon Cobras on my Vision and they have been excellent. No cupping on the rear and no "funny" wear pattern on the front. I ride 75% two up and ride agressively in the twisties with great handling. IMHO

I wondered if anyone had tried the Cobras on the Vision. Ran them on my Kaw VN2000 and loved them. What kind of mileage are you getting out of them?

Never tried the Metezler but I do have some feed back on the Avon Cobras. IMHO the Cobras are the best damn rain tyre money can buy and they stick like glue in the dry. I have been known to ride agressively in the curves and for me and my VV the Cobras are the absolute best. Milage wasn't that bad either and would have been better if I wouldn't have put the wrong, 70 series, tyre on the rear. I got 14K out of the front and 10.5 out of the wrong size rear tyre.

Just changed my front to a Continental Conti-Motion. They seem to have about the same softness of rubber as the Avons. Had a set on my Meanstreak before I traded it in on my Vision and they stuck to the road well on that bike. I rode that bike a lot more agressively than I have my Vision. Hope they do just as well on this bike.

I have Metzlers on Anny now. Only about 200 miles this winter so far. They are a "harder" tire you can feel it. Jay said to make sure and keep an eye on the pressure. Gave them a try cause they were cost less than the E3s. Not that I don't like the E3S but never tried Metz before. I had Avons on my '99 and my '03 and loved them. They did get less mileage than the Dunlops but were GREAT tires. I don't ride my Vision like I did my V92C bikes. Last time I checked they did not have matching tires for the Vision.

I am running Metzler 880s on my vision and I ride it hard. I like the 880s better than the E3s. I am very happy with them, have about 2000 miles on them, mostly one up. I highly recommend them. They are harder than the E3s but I think they are also stickier, I know that contradicts itself but hey... I routinely scrap the boards and sometimes even the tip overs on the Vision.

My mileage on the Avons has been about the same. I don't really care about the mileage because the great handling, wet or dry, is my priority. I wear the tires from edge to edge, no "chicken strips" for me!

Thanks for all the replies....Not worried about mileage, just want a VERY good tire for riding the Vision on the TWISTY roads here in East Tennessee!! !You know that little road people talk about some, the Dragon, Cherohala Skyway, Moonshiner road, the Devils Triangle and others like these around these parts...The Dunlop E3s just don't get it like the Metzlers did on my HD Road Glide...I felt more comfortable leaning on the Metlzers than I do the E3's...Just seems like the E3s get squirrelly when leaning over...

Will have to look into the Avons seeing so many of you all like them....Anybody got part number or particular tire size for the Vision???

Like others I've had Metz on my other bikes and they were always great tires as long as you watched the air pressure. But that's no different than any other tire. Proper PSI cures a lot of problems.

Has anyone put a whitewall on their Vision? I believe Metezler is the only brand that makes one that will fit the VV. Or they used to be the only brand. I haven't looked in a couple of years.

I agree....felt squirly on the E3's and even more after they began to show any signs of wear. I could've gone more, but pushed them to just over 11k. I recently switched to the Bridgestone Exedra's. Only got a few hundred miles on them so far but seems like a world of difference. Maybe it's just a "new tire" feel... but so far I'm happy! Just throwing another option out there.

New Orleans, La,
Savage, Avon has been making the front and rear tyres for the VV, they are the same as the Gold Wing. 130/70/18 and 180/60/16. If you're not sure or they don't list the VV look for Gold Wing 1800 they use the same tyre size and part no.. Hope that helps you.

Another + for the Metzlers 880s on my VV they have helped to increase my confidence when riding hard. Like others have said stay on top of tire pressure. I also ran them on my vegas 8ball.

I had wore out two sets of Cobras on my Vision when I traded for my '12 Cross Country Tour last June. Gatting ready to install a set on it as soon as I heal from back surgery.

Wish I could remember the site so I could post a link - but I seem to recall that Dunlop has come out with a new E3/4 and it is hard in the middle and softer on the edges for the obvious benefits. If I can find the site I will post a link.

I had less than stellar performance from Metzeler 880 Marathons on my TCD- only got 7,500 out of the back and both front & back were cupped and wailed like a banchee in the corners worse than the E3's. Maintained 42psi through out their short life, thought maybe I got a bad set and tried 'em again with the same results-I'm done with Metzlers.

Yes! New Dunlop E3's for rear tire only. Harder in the center patch, softer on the shoulder. Put mine on this week.
