| Anyone have any experience tightening these. My left side upper wind deflector will no longer stay in place.
I have tightened all screws on the top and bottom of the deflector. This is the one located under the mirror that adjusts in and out.
Any suggestions? Or does it need to be replaced under warranty?

East TN | I have/had the same problem...According to KevinX there is NO REAL WAY to tighten them down...I had mine replaced under warranty also...After a month or two the stupid thing started moving on me again...My final solution was to take the valance off and I applied silicone to that part to make it stop moving...
It has worked so far...Before the silicone I had used duct tape but it kept working loose and of course the wind deflector started moving again...SO thats why I finally went with silicone...Funny part is mine is the same one...LEFT SIDE...Go figure! |

| Yea, that side of the bike vibrates more than the right side. In my experience, both Vics ive owned have had slightly more vibration on the left side. No riding issues, and it doesnt affect anything, but the vibration is what is moving this thing around.
Where did you apply the silicone? I would like to try that before replacing it.... if it will happen again. |

| Mine kept doing the same thing, in installed a thin shim between the top plate and the teflon ring to allow a greater clamping force on the top ring. Problem solved. |

New York State | the left on my 2011 is loose as well I remember a member posting he took out the stock screws and went a 1/8 or a 1/4 longer. I think I will give my dealer a shot before trying the shim or longer screws |

"Take the screws out and go to the hardware and buy replacements (stainless) that are the same size (same thread) but about 1/2" - 3/4" longer. When one of mine fell off I checked to see how far the screws actually thread into the mount and found that they only screw in about 3/8". I took a fine piece of wire and checked how deep the screw hole is in the mount and it's about an inch deep. Conclusion: longer screws have not come loose since I changed them out over 15k miles ago.

Ventura County, CA | This thread is a little to late for me. I just lost my right deflector this weekend. Screws must of worked there way out and I did not know it. I got home and parked it and noticed the deflector was missing. No screws left behind, so I know it did not break off. It was very windy on my ride, so the stress could have blown it off. To bad I did not catch it. Anyone have an extra one they would be willing to sell? |

I'm curious about this process. According to the manual, there are many body parts that must be removed to access that top plate and teflon ring. How did you get this accomplished? How much time did it take?

| I just removed the front aluminum access panel, you can get to it from there and there is room to work. I have 1/4" drive torx and allen bits, which allows access to the crews on the deflector top plate.
For the shim I used a couple of layers of electrical tape on the top layer itself. Do not apply the tape between moving portion of the bushing and teflon ring, you just want a little extra clamping force. My upper deflectors are good to about 105 mph with this setup.
This is a quarter of a beer job, very straight forward and pretty easy. Don't forget to use a little bit of blue lock-tight on everything. Including the sheet metal screws that hold the deflector in. Cheap insurance. |

| I shimmed mine about 25K miles ago and even with the extra weight of Cycleops' metal replacements it hasn't moved on its own.

| Well...after taking these apart (without removing the fairing), I decided that it was due to the lack of clamping pressure that was the culprit, as many have posted. I did not want the entire bike pulled apart if I could fix this, and it might happen again...so. The factory screws that are used are pretty poor and do not have alot of surface area to apply clamping power to the upper piece seen after removing the upper panel (access panel).
I simply changed out the screws for some that had a larger screw head, added a washer and lock washer and put them in. The first test ride proved successful up to about 80 and the deflector did not move. When you move the deflector is now has more resistance than before. Hopefully this fixes it for good. Attached are some pics for your enjoyment. Hope this helps someone else. |

Weird....mine fell off this week also. Maybe there is some sort of super secret recall going on......
