So Cal | Last thursday after 30-40 min. ride through city streets. I stopped at convinience store for a drink. Came out, turned the key, hit the start button and NOTHING. No click, nothing. I was just a few blocks shy of my destination. So I thought I would push the rest of the way. It was a few blocks more than I thought, so I decided to try push start. Pulled the clutch in, shifted to second gear and started to realize the energy this was going to require. Instead I decided to try the start button one more time, in second gear with clutch lever pulled in. It fired right up!!!! Got home decided to read the service manual scamatic to see if I could find some wiring, ect. to inspect. Turns out on page 18.8 it states that pulling the clutch lever in bypasses some of the grounds. Havent found a reason for the no start yet. But since then it starts like I have a new battery. Even the voltage gauge reads better than it ever has. I'm guessing that an increase in voltage through the gounds has somehow improved the connection. Havent had time to investigate further. I have gotten into the habit of starting with the clutch pulled in every once in a while. ground inspection and cleaning will be my next step when time permits. |

New Bohemia, VA | yeah dude, about 50% of the time I have to pull in the clutch just so it will start. As long as it starts, it don't bother me. Been like that for about 2 years now. Now I'm getting a 5 gear display when I'm actually in 6 gear. Just like me, getting a little mileage and age.. |

Brighton, TN | It wouldn't happen to be the switch that tells the computer the clutch is pulled in would it? My hand clutch handle has gotten so loose that i have found it doesn't push all the way out like it used to and will hold the pin in further not allowing the bike to start. Something like that.
On a side note haven't seen cjsoaringeaglenoho in awhile. Howdy pardner! |

| Cjnoho good post. I had the same thing happen. Had the bike in neutral, kill switch in the 'on' position, touched the start button nothing. Tried again nothing. Straddled the bike pulled in the clutch and she fired right up. |

| By chance have you put the star washers on the Battery terminal yet. Had the no start thing like deard batery after 60 mile on my new bike a year ago. It was batery terminel connections. |

Spfld, IL but temp Bay area, CA | Very timely comments--my 08 just started doing this about a month ago. So far only have to pull the clutch in about a 1/4 of the time. Has anyone had a dealer look at this? Mine is going in for service and a new rear tire this weekend. |

So Cal | Im just glad I didnt have to push it! Not getting any younger. Still havent had time to investigate. I have been starting it once a week with clutch lever in though.
Pollo, good to hear from you. 2008 hit me hard. Ive just been down, not out yet though. |

| It might be the switch in the clutch the one the lever pushes in. Here are the star washers you want 1/4" size. ones in photo are samples not real size
