I'm planning a long distance trip from Florida to CA, on the 12 Vision. I'm thinking of taking a few extra parts, not much, maybe a some extra screws, etc... I've already had one vibrate out of one of the trunk latches. Thought I'd post here and see what sizes are most common or what you guys would recommend. Also any extra tools you think might be necessary.
Thanks!

I carry a 12 volt air compressor and a tire plug kit, which has gotten used. The factory supplied tool kit rides in the bottom of a saddlebag and has never been used on the road in the 5 years I've owned my Vision. I also carry a roll of electrical tape and some zip ties. The zip ties were used once to help a buddy with his Goldwing, which had a front tire that kept going flat.

Put "Ride On" in your tires and leave the tire patch kit and Air Compressor at Home. Get Flat protection AND balancing for the cost of the compressor and nothing extra to carry!

For long trips I add the following to my packing list. Rain Suit. Rain Gloves (I bought extra Large heavy Duty Rubber Gloves from Harbor Freight for about $4. Just Put them on over my normal gloves) Take a small compact socket set/tool kit. I have a cheap one from Wally World about 5 in by 10 in by 2 inches. (Ultra Steel 43 peice Socket and screwdriver set) It fits nicely in the bottom of my left hand Saddle bag.

Then add AAA and MC/Visa/AMX. Anything more than a lose screw and I'm calling a tow. Let someone else fix it while I enjoy the area as a tourist!

Just my 2 cents.

I never thought to take a few extra nut/bolts but I carry small tools, tire patch and clutch cable. I do plan on getting a backup belt and compressor and good first-aid kit

If you kink the belt it will break in the spot where the kink it. Belts half to stay in big loops. Guys have ridden many thousands of miles with no failure. Think how many days you have ridden and never see a bike down cause of the belt. I know Vic says replace it at 15 thousand thats BS they can go a hundred thousand miles. If you feel your going to looses screws take them out put a dab of silicon on them and put back in. You have a vision that has a clutch cable. look for a screwdriver that has interchangeable tips takes up less space. I always think what I use in the shop the same tool goes in the bag and for the most part never need them. Where ever you stay ask them what is of interest around there and all motels will let you use washer and dryer. If you buy stuff ups it home. Whats in the photo looks good.

I've never had a problem on the road, generally I carry for the others I ride with, you know " no rider left behind". The clutch cable I've carried since my Jackpot days. I use only the tools in the bag to work on the bike, that way I know I have whatever I may need. Everything in photo only takes up half of one saddlebag, leaves me plenty of room for stuff.

Apologies for the "thread jack" but a zip tie for a tire going flat? Has to be a great story in that.

It's one my buddy and I will remember anyway. He still rides a Goldwing. We were riding in the Ouachita Mountains (Arkansas) when his bike started to handle poorly. We found a place to pull over and check his tire pressures and the front one was low. We used my 12 volt compressor and aired it back up and checked for leaks. Couldn't find any. Away we go, but the same thing happens after a few miles. Air up on the side of the road and away we go again. We finally made it to a Mom and Pop station in the middle of nowhere and used their air supply and a borrowed pan of soapy water to check for leaks, including the bead and the valve stem. Nothing. We muttered "what the Hell is going on" and take off again. Same thing happens--front tire loses pressure a few miles down the road. One more roadside air up with the 12 volt compressor and we get to town. We do the soap test again and this time wiggle the valve stem. There's the leak.

Honda kindly provides 90 degree valve stems to make checking tire pressure easier, but they use rubber ones and support them with a bracket. On his bike, the hole in the bracket is big enough to allow the stem to move a little under centrifical force and the stem cracked right where it comes through the wheel. It would hold pressure all day long at rest, but leak at road speed. We used a zip tie to secure it from moving and the rest of the day was uneventful. In fact, it worked so well that he ended up running the rest of the life out of that tire with the stem zip tied to the bracket. He replaced it when he replaced the tire. He now zip ties the stems to the brackets as a matter of course, since the Honda design allows some movement.

We speculated that if that had happened when running down the SuperSlab (instead of in the curves of the mountains), he might not have noticed the low pressure until it was too late...........

As a side note, even if he had some SuperDooper Goop in his tires (he didn't) it would have done absolutely no good in this situation since the leak was around the base of the valve stem, outside of the wheel. Similarly, if all we had was a CO2 tire inflation kit, we would have run out of "air" long before we solved the problem. A 12 volt compressor (used 3 times that one day alone) and a zip tie saved the day.
